  • The most frustrating attempt I've ever had to give someone my money

1 out of 5 starsby Kirby on 05/11/2025

April 6: After reviewing the online details I reached out to Northstar Kia via their website explaining that I was out-of-state but very interested in the used Ram ProMaster that they had. I asked for additional details, media that they might have, as I could not drop by to see it in person. Soon after that I got an email reply asking whether today or tomorrow would be best to see the “ Mitsubishi” in person. I responded saying that I’m out of state and reasking the questions. April 7: Email from “Daisha” with a summary of the Carfax report. I replied again asking the questions. Meanwhile, and this goes for the whole transaction, I’m getting automated emails from every person I emailed with (Daisha Cepeda, Nairoby Valverde, Ludys Acosta). I answer some with information and requests for updates. I’m sure that Bibi Singh will reply to this review about how sorry he is and how uncharacteristic this is, with his email address being provided to make things right, but I don’t see anything that this dealership can do at this point to earn my trust. Anyway… April 15: A TXT message via their CRM that actually has pics/video! I respond with a followup email saying to send numbers! The next day a TXT : “Hi Kirby my name is Pierre Rothwell. I represent Northstar Mitsubishi Kia. Please feel free to let me know when the appropriate time to call you thank you.” I respond by saying to call anytime; I want to see numbers! April 19: I reached out asking if the TXT number works. April 22: I email for an update. Later a lady (Ludys) calls and says that the price of the van with no trade/no financing would be the Retail Price ($44,000) plus taxes/DMV and a $175 doc fee and that was it. So, I confirmed that, if the taxes/DMV were $3,000 that would mean that the price would be $47,175 out the door. She agreed, with the caveat that a sales manager would have to determine exact taxes and DMV and they would reach out to me to do that. April 23: I got an email that Pierre will be reaching out shortly, and a phone call that evening from Pierre. He was interested in whether or not I would be financing and whether or not I’d have a trade in. He explained that the internet price included a $1,000 discount for financing and a $2,500 discount for a trade in. He asked if I’d be ready to buy in the next 7 to 10 days and I told him I could be there on the morning of the 26th if we could make the numbers work. He said that he’d have to talk to his sales manager but that he’d get back to me in a few minutes with out-the-door numbers. April 24: I got a TXT from the same CRM number from earlier telling me to TXT a new phone number: Pierre’s cell. I TXT: Do you have an ETA on when I might see those ProMaster OTD numbers that we were talking about last night? I checked my email spam folder and didn't see anything. I get back: Hey Excellent My sales manager has to give them He is in tomorrow He has been informed of your interest I will have answers for you April 26: I get the following TXT: Hey Sales manager working the numbers I will contact you shortly with results My apologies for the inconvenience We're on it He also tries to call but I TXT him that I can’t take the call then. That evening I TXT him: Hi Pierre, Thanks for your patience. It's been a busy day. Did your sales manager make it through the numbers? Thanks. I get a TXT a bit later: The numbers are in 54500 OTD April 28: The next morning I TXT: Hi Pierre, Thank you for your efforts in gaining me as a customer and making this the first of many vehicles that I buy from you. $54,500 OTD is a very round number for it including percent taxes. When I had spoken with Ludys on the phone I verified with her three times that the price would be the vehicle price plus taxes, DMV, and a $175.00 doc fee and nothing else. So, please provide a breakdown of how your sales manager arrived at the $54,500.00 price. I understand it might be complicated, so you are more than welcome to email it to me. Thank you! He TXTs: Hi No problem I will get the information and contact you Our 2024 Ram Promaster Cargo Van is priced $47,995 So there is the “Internet Price” of $40,500, the “Retail Price” of $44,000 which doesn’t include the financing/trade discounts. There is also a MSRP price of $47,995 on the website which is a made-up number, as this is a used van and not subject to anything manufacturer related. I TXT him: Thanks for getting back to me and I hope you had a great weekend. $54,500-47,995 leaves $6,505.00. If you can help me figure out what numbers are going into calculating that, that would be great. I’m not even concerning myself with what he has said the van is priced at. I’m just trying to figure out the difference. An hour later he TXTs: Cash deals are not subject to financing pricing I will inform my manager and follow up with you ok April 29: I TXT him: Good morning Pierre. Thank you for your help with this. Any progress? Later that day he TXTs: Taxes tags Fees He calls me. I asked him what the breakdown of taxes, tags, and fees is, and he said It’s taxes, tags, and fees. So I said, what are the taxes? He didn’t know. What are the tags? He said that would all be on the buyer information sheet. I asked to see the sheet. He said that would be prepared when I was ready to buy and he asked me if I was ready to buy. I told him that I had been ready to buy for 3 weeks but needed to see and understand the numbers. He again said the difference was taxes tags and fees (he mentioned a PPI, which is a Pre-Purchase Inspection) and I said that I needed to know what the numbers are. I was driving and my connection started getting spotty and I couldn’t understand what he was saying, so we had to end the call. Later I TXT: Thank you for your patience, Pierre and thank you for describing that the $6,505.00 difference between the purchase price of $47,995 and the OTD price of $54,500 is Taxes tags Fees. Based on that purchase price, state taxes will be $2,904.70. Title is $85.25 plus $2.50 for a paper title, totaling $87.75. Registration in Florida is $225.00 with the permanent license plate being $28.00. The NY DMV ordained In-Transit Vehicle Permit is $12.50. This means that the government gets, for that purchase price, a total of $3,257.95. Subtracting that from $6,505.00 leaves $3,247.05 as ‘fees’. What are these fees? You mentioned a PPI. Daisha had previously stated “When we received this vehicle, it was detailed and prepared, and there were no visible problems.” So I would trust that the PPI wouldn’t be a significant deal, but what is the fee for that? What additional fees make up the $3,247.05, and do any of them depend on the price of the vehicle, or are they a flat fee? As I had stated on the phone, and I hope my persistence would show, I am very much interested in buying this van at the right price but I must know how the numbers are being calculated. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you. Hours later he ‘Liked’ the TXT and responded: When my manager returns I will inform of your request and get you the data you need? That sounds fair? TTYs I told him to have a great evening. May 6: I TXT: Hi Pierre, Do you have any idea when your manager will return? Thanks. That is where things stand. I never even got to the point of talking about the actual price. They have the van I want, and I want to buy it, but they don’t want to sell it to me.
  • Bate and switch

    1 out of 5 starsby Lismore11 on 01/04/2025

The price was $3,500 higher than the online listing. I was informed that the online price only applied to customers trading in a vehicle, which would still be a bad deal. This came after waiting two hours for them to find the key and locate the car. A challenging dealership to reach in Queens, and an overall poor experience.
  • Awful Service

    1 out of 5 starsby Tommy M on 09/08/2024

Spoke to a representative on the phone, received the final price for the vehicle and we proceeded. Tried to purchase online, they apparently have a policy that says no orders can be solely online, so I made an appointment and they set it for 10 AM Sunday. So I drove 2 hours all the way to New York just for the price to skyrocket $3,500. The representative on the phone stated our appointment was at 11 AM, we got there on time and no one was there. Our appointment was even confirmed by Nairoby the manager twice, we ended up waiting until 12 PM and the service was awful. The car wasn’t clean and smelt like cigarettes. Wouldn’t recommend this god awful place to anyone, save your money and take your business elsewhere.

  • Customer Service!

5 out of 5 starsby Nicholas on 08/30/2019

Just wanted to say shoutout to your team! I was in around 3 weeks ago and purchased an E-Class. Anyways the associate Jonathan King assisted me instantly and made sure all my questions were answered. I actually had an offer for a cheaper price with another dealer, but they were so unprofessional. I had no issue spending the extra money after the help I received from your employees. Truly made my family feel like we were your family. I will always come back here for my future purchases. Once again thank you Jonathan! If you’re there whenever we need the minivan for the kids, we will 100% be going to you. Thank you once again for the best customer service we’ve ever received from a car dealership!

  • Proud purchase

5 out of 5 starsby ThomasW on 08/31/2019

Johnathan King is the only salesman I’ve sat down with thus far (and I’ve been shopping around A LOT) that I’ve felt comfortable with. No double talk, no trickery, no nonsense. He was very knowledgeable and satisfied all my inquiries , which allowed me to make my purchase with confidence, instead of feeling like I rolled the dice. He even walked me through the different options that worked best for ME financially. Great experience overall.

  • Josiah is really something special !

    5 out of 5 starsby Dena123 on 08/30/2019

Josiah has a way of making you feel like you’re in the right hands. When I first came to the dealership I really was just lost I didn’t really know what I wanted I just knew I needed a car for me to get to work and school everyday. So when I came he was so polite and helpful he answered all the questions I needed because in all reality I know nothing about cars just if it’s pretty or not. He found a car that was perfect for me and I love it. Darwin and Efrain were also super duper helpful, and is running the dealership pretty smoothly. They were also welcoming, and greeted me very respectful. My children When they are of age will be purchasing a car from them for sure!

  • Thank you Northstar

5 out of 5 starsby Anonymous on 08/30/2019

I walked in thinking these guys might be like any other dealership on Northern. (Which I’ve had several horrible experiences) What I assumed was absolutely wrong, I’m mindblown that my sales consultant Jasbina made my car purchase such an easy process and no bs. She was so honest about everything and on top of every little thing for me. I will without a question come back and see her for any car needs or recommend her to all my friends and family! THANKS JASBINA!!!

  • Go and see Jillian Pollidore

5 out of 5 starsby Sandra on 08/20/2019

I absolutely hate shopping for cars and this was by far the best experience ever. Jillian has such a fun personality and knows what she is talking about. She told me from the beginning that she is not here to pressure me into buying a car, but her job was to make the car buying experience stress free and she delivered. If you are looking for a stress free car buying experience, Jillian at Northstar is your go to person.

  • horrible experience

    1 out of 5 starsby larahh40 on 06/22/2018

absolutely horrible experience with this dealership!! do not use! staff is incredibly incompetent and rude. our registration was not proccessed on time so our temporary tags expired before we recieved our permenant plates. as a result we were making payments and accruing interest on a vehicle that we were unable to drive. to top it off when the dealership finally got the plates in they did not imediately mail them out to us. they also registered the vehicle to the wrong address (they definitely had the correct as our address on the loan was filed correctly).
  • 1st car kia niro 2017

5 out of 5 starsby urbanrural on 04/12/2018

I got my first car from Northstar Kia. A lease. We didn't have the best credit so we didn't get the rate we had hoped for but Northstar Kia still gave us the best offer possible and negotiated heavily with the bank so that our rate was as low as could be. We got great and honest information from our salesman Vinny while shopping and comparing cars. Highly recommended for NYers looking to get a car.
