  • Disappointed

2 out of 5 starsby Florimond on 06/23/2014

My family has purchased cars from McGuire fir many years so this year, when I needed a car, I went over there. I found them totally disinterested in my vehicle need. I had to contact them numerous times to see if they coukd find what I was looking for. I felt as if they couldn't care less if I bought a car from thm or not, despite my paying cash. It should have been an easy transaction but they made me feel like I was getting in the way of their selling more expensuve vehicles. I probably won't be returning for my next car purchase despite their convenient location.

  • Very satisfied

    4.3 out of 5 starsby len66 on 11/23/2009

My salesman, Justin Valent, was pleasant, knowledgeable, and professional--no pressure whatsoever. Throughout the purchasing process he responded positively to all my concerns and needs. Do your research, and Maguire will match your best price, both for purchase and trade-in. I told my salesman that I would not sit through endless pressure from their "closer" to buy extended warranties, rust proofing, etc etc, and he handled the sale from start to finish with the blessing of the sales manager. All told, a great car buying experience.

  • Very professional management

4.6 out of 5 starsby deepclue on 01/02/2008

My first experience with Bill Cooke Imports was back in Aug. '02, when I was on the market for a new Volkswagen. I was bidding for a new '03 Jetta and got the unwanted but unfortunately somewhat typical salesperson who would talk to me like I was an idiot about to get duped. I promptly called the manager, whose attitude was completely different. We discussed my bid for the car with the invoice pricing in front of us (provided by him, by the way, and accurate to the penny). He was very professional, but did not want to take my offer, so I went to another dealer (Empire Audi, at the time Feduke Motor) and got my Jetta there. I got a second car (an '04 Jetta) a couple of years later also at Feduke (this time skipping Bill Cooke altogether). All along, however, I had my two cars serviced at Bill Cooke (the only game in town for VW in Ithaca, NY). Service was always super-professional and reasonably priced, so when it came to trading in my '02 Jetta (Dec. '07) I decided to give Bill Cooke a second go. This time I bumped into a well-mannered, no-pressure, nice salesperson (fortunately more abundant than one might conclude from reading books about how to buy a car). He showed us a number of models we had in mind, suggested a few others, we test-drove a couple, etc. At some point, I eyed an '08 R32 still in wraps and asked for a test drive. He and his manager rushed to get the the car prepped. Overall, a very smooth shop-around experience. I did tell the salesperson about my earlier experience with them and the outcome of it. When we sat down to negotiate, after a timid attempt at bargaining, they took my 1st bid. They also gave me the exact price I wanted for my trade-in (this did take a couple back-and-forths, nothing too annoying). Realize I gave them reasonable bid/ask prices for both--I did not try to lowball. By the end of the day they had car, loan, and insurance ready to go. Overall, my R32 purchase was just perfect.

  • Good service but you pay for it

Salesman was very good was good but Maguire family price was about 600 more than dealerships within one or two hours and they would not negotiate. It wasn't worth my time to make two trips out of town to save six hundred dollars, but if it is worth your time then go somewhere else.
