by byrbwarstlhnda on 09/18/2008I was exceptionally disappointed with St. Louis Honda (STLH). In fact, I was so upset with their tactics I considered not purchasing a Honda at all. At the dealership the salesperson introduced my wife and I to the Accord sedan and… showed us how it could still be sporty but was more functional than the coupe I had been considering. My wife and I test drove the vehicle with him. We liked what we saw and returned to the dealership after doing additional research to discuss a deal. We listed several options we wanted to include, financing and warranty. We offered a competitive price. While we were waiting to see if the dealership could meet the price we wanted, the dealership became exceptionally unprofessional. We told had previously told them we'd been to other dealerships. They proceeded to bad-mouth their competition. They brought out a sales sheet showing their volume versus all their competitors in the region (as if to say volume makes you better). Additionally, they began showing us Edmunds.com reports written about their competition by consumers who had a bad experience. Personally, I find these sales tactics unprofessional and tacky. When selling a vehicle (or anything for that matter), don't criticize your competition, sell me on what makes you the best and why I need to buy from you. Sell me on what sets you apart, not what mistakes someone else made with one customer. The sales manager came out to ask me whether or not color on the car mattered. Indeed, color did matter, and he noted there was only one other vehicle in the region that matched our criteria. STLH had four. He was seemingly trying to gain leverage at this point. As it turns out, the dealership said they were not able to meet the deal I proposed in full, unwilling to throw in all-season mats. I countered them, noting the dealership makes a lot of margin on mats. He had the nerve to say in a smart-aleck tone, "Someone has to install them." My rebuttal was simple, "They are floor mats." He continued, "Well, somebody has to open the box." We walked away from the dealership that evening after having received their offer price, and I began calling other dealers in the area. Actually, I used the regional sales paper they used to highlight their "volume means something" argument in this process. I called or emailed each of the dealerships in the region. I told them the price STLH was offering and listed all the options (including the mats), financing and warranty we sought. Most dealerships replied they were unable to meet the deal b/c they didn't have the car. Others showed willingness to do a dealer trade to get the car. In the end, Bommarito Honda beat STLH by more than $400, and they offered numerous other benefits (they were selling me on what sets them apart). Included in this Bommarito offer was a warranty guarantee (money-back if it's not used). Since I felt some loyalty to the salesperson at STLH who had worked with us previously, showing us the car and its features, I decided to allow STLH the chance to simply meet Bommarito's deal despite the prior experience. If they could meet the deal, I was going to buy from them. Again, they began to bad-mouth the competition, trying to convince me the warranty guarantee was on an after-market warranty. In fact, that's not the case, and in subsequent conversations with former salespeople at STLH, I found out they simply don't offer this option and regularly have to fight this selling point. Nonetheless, STLH said they could match the price but would not be able to offer the money-back guarantee on the warranty. Again, they said that's not a big deal, since Bommarito was only offering an after-market warranty. I decided to walk away from STLH that night, wanting to find out more from Bommarito. They told me again, that it is indeed a Honda, manufacturer warranty. Nonetheless, I called back o STLH a couple of days lateInternet Sales at St. Louis Honda, 2008 Honda Accord, EX-L
by awoodruff on 07/13/2008I recently purchaseda new Honda Accord EX-L from Dave Mungenast's St. Louis Honda on S. Lindbergh Blvd. I had contacted several dealerships in the area and had planned to make the rounds on a Saturday in order to get the best deal for the… new car, as well as for my small SUV trade-in. Ivo Saric was my internet salesman with St. Louis Honda and they were my first stop of the day. Of course, before I even made the 2 hour drive to St. Louis, I had made contact with the different dealerships in the area, via their internet sales departments. Some of the dealerships didn't even bother to resond to my request for price quotes, or their quotes were straight off the sticker (MSRP). With St. Louis Honda (and specifcally with Ivo Saric), that was not the case at all. Instead, Ivo promptly responded to my inquiry and answered my many questions. He gave me a reasonable quote right from the beginning and when I provided a somewhat lower quote from a competing dealership, Ivo did not hesitate to re-evaluate his previous quote. Their dealership with the only one in the St. Louis area that had the color combination I was looking for and once I arrived, I was immediately met by Ivo and taken through the process of my car purchase. I didn't even make it to the two other dealerships I was considering because St. Louis Honda made everything happen to my satisfaction. I have bought new cars before and I will say without hesitation, that this was the most pleasurable experience I've had in purchasing a new car. I did not feel at all pressured at any point and found Ivo willing to negotiate on my trade-in as well. Everyone at the dealership was very friendly from the first moment I walked in the door until I drove off the lot with my new car. I would highly recommend this business if you are in the market for a new car.Committed to the price I needed before others
by scottc3064 on 01/13/2014updated 06/04/2025I do all my car shopping via the internet. I had a car I HATED that I wanted to unload and wrote several Honda dealers with the price I needed in order to make a deal. One dealer came back and said 'no', one dealer said the 'hoped' they… could make the deal but Joe B came back and said they'd make the deal (barring any dents, dings, cracked windows, etc) and that they could have everything ready to go (checking out my car, financing, etc) by the time I got there and I could be in and out in about an hour. While it did take a bit longer than that (not sure why because the dealership wasn't busy on a wet and snowy Thursday morning) it all went very smoothly and they even got me 1.86% financing. I even got pinstriping and mudflaps thrown in (I think because the color I picked already had them installed, but whatever). Highly recommend this dealership - just have numbers to work with and do your homework.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
by meg01018 on 04/27/2011updated 06/04/2025My experience at Dave Mungenast St. Louis Honda more than exceeded my expectations! The showroom was beautiful, clean, and bright. Everyone at the dealership was very pleasant to work with, from the greeter, to my salesman (Craig Newport),… to Ivo in the finance department. Craig Newport's customer service throughout the process of searching for and buying a new car was unparalleled. I am from St. Louis, however I am living in Lawrence, KS while finishing graduate school. I called Craig a week before I was supposed to come in for Easter. I told him what I was looking for, and he found the perfect match for me. My new Pilot was literally waiting for me in front of the dealership when I got in Friday afternoon. I could not be happier with the SUV, the dealership, or my salesman. I HIGHLY recommend Craig, as well as the dealership to anyone looking for a great vehicle with great customer service. I am loving my new Pilot, and will continue to do business with St. Louis Honda for years to come!Randy Graves at St. Louis Honda was pretty good
by dmack4 on 02/11/2011updated 06/04/2025He negotiated what I thought was a reasonable price for both dealer and buyer, no BS went and completed paperwork and picked up car later that evening. I would recommend Randy to anyone looking for good selection in St. Louis Area.Great customer service!!
by bjjj on 05/12/2013updated 06/04/2025I recently bought a 2013 civic hybrid and I couldn't be happier with the customer service that Dave Mungenast Honda provided. My sales and financing guys were very helpful. Highly recommended.Beware
by stlouisguy on 02/06/2012updated 06/04/2025The salesman told us that Mungenast St. Louis Honda does not use Kelley Blue Book values because they are "bad". Instead, they use another website which is "good". Good? The website Mungenast uses produces lower numbers than Kelley Blue… Book. So, by walking through the doors of this dealership, you automatically lose $1000Great Dealership!!
by insightfulbob on 01/12/2011updated 06/04/2025Second car I bought there in under three years. Still have my 07 Odessey, now an Insight also. Was treated honestly, fairly, and respectfully.Prompt quote
by litehaus1225 on 02/24/2013updated 06/04/2025It was a prompt quote but I got a lower price from Bommarito and followed through on it. No complaints with the dealer though and there was no attitude from the saleslady, just a nice thank you for the contact.excellent internet sales experience
by ciao66 on 01/12/2014updated 06/04/2025I was very happy with the treatment I received from Joe B. He respected my requests regarding communication and he worked with me on price to be competitive. I was disappointed in the pathos-oriented hard sell for an extended warranty by… the finance person.
About our dealership
Now, I'm posting this on Edmunds.com. However, I would caution any dealership against using this as a sales tactic. That's simply tacky, and I'm only one customer. Then why would you make the posting? You yourself are tacky.
