    On 1/17/23 I saw a used car for sale at IRA Acura in Westwood MA that I was very interested in. I made an appointment to come down and check it out the following morning. When I got there, I was able to test drive the car, and… immediately sold the salesman that I would take it and would pay the price that they were asking. I asked to put a deposit down on the car for a couple of hours so I could just confirm with my wife, and was told by the sales rep that they were not accepting deposits on this car, and I needed to make up my mind right there is I wanted it or not. I still decided to purchase it. The sales rep told me to have a seat at his desk while he went to put together the paperwork. When he returned with the paperwork, the total was higher than I anticipated. I looked over the line items and saw one for just over $1,200. I questioned what this was for. The sales rep then gave me a pamphlet about a “resistall 360 protection program”. I informed him that I was not interested in this add on, and as soon as he removed it from the invoice, I would pay for the car. I was told by the sales rep that this was not optional, and if I wanted the car, I had to purchase this. When I questioned him about it, I was told “the dealership needs to make some money off of this car too. We paid $7,800 for the car (they were selling it for $8,100), so the dealership needs to make some profit”. I told the sales rep that this was very illegal, and that I couldn’t believe he was trying to scam me in this way. I also asked him to show me the paperwork showing that the dealer bought the car for $7,800, which he declined. I was upset though and let him know that what he was doing is against the law, and that I was going to report them to the Attorney General. By this time some manager of the dealership came over to see what was going on. I explained my story, and was then told I could buy it without the $1,200 warranty. I let them know that I wasn’t sure if I wanted it anymore as I did not trust them after being lied to. Before any of this, the salesman let me know that the car would not be ready for a week or so as the mechanics had to go through it. As I explained to the manager, since I called them out on their illegal activity, how did I know that they were going to thoroughly check the car, or worse yet how did I know they were not going to retaliate? I decided that I was going to leave, and not purchase the car. On the way out, I stopped in to the sales managers area and let him know of my decision. He asked that I do not contact the Attorney General’s office and said “please don’t make this miserable for us, and we won’t make life miserable for you”. This threw me way off. Now I was being threatened. When I got out to my car, I realized that they had a copy of my license and other info, so I went back in and asked for anything that had my info on it back. I was given a printed out form from the computer which included my license (not the original) and told that they were not able to find the sales rep, so they could not get me the rest of the paperwork. I still can’t believe this experience. How many other car buyers are out there that were told that this scam of a protection plan was mandatory, and had to purchase it? In the past I probably would have. Now by reporting this, I have to worry that they have my info and will retaliate. This is concerning, but this unlawful practice needs to be reported.

    Expect to be delayed, late, and have your time wasted numerous times. Quite possibly the worst sales experience I have ever experienced. I emailed my concerns to the GM Jose Silva over a week ago and have heard nothing back. Cannot and will… not reccomend this dealership. If 0 stars were an option it would be 0.

  • Unethical and bad business practice

    Very unethical and bad business practice. Why would they advertise the referral money but they just don’t want to give? Bought a car there, then recommended my friend to buy another car there, the salesman submitted all the paperwork for… referral but never seen the money or heard from them. Called and emailed the sales manager Lenny Goldwasser, he never returned calls or emails… the referral money is nothing but just the way they do business, they didn’t honor what they said on their website.

    I wouldn’t want to go to any other car service center other than Ira Acura. My service representative seems to always be available, schedules my service in the appropriate time frame, gets me in within a day for any problem. And,… furthermore, that offer me a loaner vehicle for any extensive car service. Extremely professional, their estimated wait times are always accurate. Everything is explained. Also, I have an RDX with 200,000+ miles on it that is great!
