WORST CAR BUYING EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE ... STAY AWAY FROM BERNARDI HONDA
by bmw_car on 10/09/2010Bernardi Honda sold the car to me and took the deposit money on the same day. It was a very high pressure sales where they gave 8 minutes to decide when they lowered the advertised price by just $200. Dealership gave a written Email about… changing the vehicle "timing belt", "tires" and agreed to a price [Proof available on request] .They asked me to come to dealership next day to take the delivery of the vehicle. * Vehicle was found to have gears jammed at the time of delivery by the sales person. The car had difficultly even to move. * Dealership told us to fix the jammed gears and come next day for delivery and agreed to have it checked by an independent mechanic for any other issues. * Dealership on a recorded message/conversation agreed to fix anything found by independent mechanic. [ Proof available on request ] * Dealership told us that they already performed full inspection [150 point] on the vehicle and everything is good. They assured multiple times that after the recent fix, it was checked by Honda/Acura mechanic. * Independent Mechanic next door from dealership found additional issues with the car that was suppose to cost an additional $1000 if done outside [ may be $500 if done by dealership itself ] on top of agreed repairs. * Dealership called and now told us that they are not selling the car and will be giving back my deposit. Issues ==== * Wasted three days of my time already when one day I had to take 1/2 day off from work. * Cost of independent mechanic inspection was paid by me. Dealership refuse to re-imbuse the cost of mechanic inspection and mis-represented that car was already inspected and everything is fine. * Failed to deliver on the commitment where they agreed to fix anything found by mechanic. * Very very rude.Overall a Good Experience
by newfitdriver on 08/13/2010E-mailed several dealers for quotes on a new car. Bernardi was not only the first to respond but the lowest price by far. Came in for a test drive and was not committed to buying - no pressure to buy that day (no "if you buy today… then..." nonsense). When we did come in to buy the process went well, we were treated well by the salesman and again there was little pressure to buy things we did not want. The process took a while, for which the salesman was apologetic. The sales manager was more directly pushy with buying the extras ("This is a very complex car, you NEED the extended warrantee. How about if I cut the price of the warrantee in half and throw in a tire warrantee for free"). In the end, though, he was reasonable once we made it clear what we wanted. Bottom line: we got the car we wanted at a low price with very little hassle.Bernardi Honda Good Deals
by sgopta on 04/30/2010I went to Bernardi Honda on April 25th to purchase a 2010 Honda Accord LX. I orginally inquired online and I was sent back a quote from Jason which seemed like a really great deal. After it was sent to me I received a call from Harvey, I… asked him is this price right and he said yes its part of our month end clearance sale, so I set up a time to go in and meet with them. When I got there they had lots of colors to choose from and there were no games or gimicks with the price, like some of those other dealerships. I would highly highly recommend this dealership to anyone looking for a new Honda Accord. They gave me a great deal and I drove off with the car that day. Thanks Bernardi Honda. They don't keep any promise
by truthteller1 on 03/21/2010Some of the people there are friendly, but they don't treat customers seriously, but joking around even on serious deals. I am telling you the story which really happened yesterday, 3/20/2010 in Bernardi Honda. It was a bizarre… experience: about 5:30pm, I was sitting around a table with two of their dealers, Kristine and Jason, about a price on Honda Accord LX. First I showed them a price from another dealership, a quite good number WITHOUT TRADE-IN, they tried hard to convince me that another dealership lied to me about destination fee, and their number can not be true, but they could offer me the same price with destination included. I told them if so, I would chose the 1st dealership ..... then Jason started to offer me good deals on my trade-in price for my old car, saying that they can make it as $1000 or even $1500, etc, which sounds nothing possible, so I stood up and shook their hands and ready to leave. Just about to exit the show room, I was called back by a guy behind their front desk ( His name is Scott ?). He shouted to me ( Yes, he shouted, and almost everybody could hear) : " how about $500 more cut from your price ? will you buy it ?" It was attractive, so I went back to them. They had about 6-7 people gathering there. I asked this guy several times : " $500 more on my out-of-door price 20xxx (the number from other dealership), or on my current trade-in price ?" HE REPLIED LOUDLY : " on either of these ". After I re-confirmed with him that my 20xxx was the out-of-door price, he realized that he took it wrong, he though it was the price without tax and fees: " out-of-door price ? " , but soon he said to me : " OK, $500 from that out-of-door price, but now I can not decide". He then pat a senior guy beside, which looks like a senior manager : "Can I give him $500 more from his out-of-door price ?" The senior dealer seemed not listening at beginning, then answered : " OK". After I assured with them that was what I heard, I left and told them I would be back the next day, today. All the people there were greeting to me for the good price. While, today, when I walked into Bernardi Show Room, and met Christine. She at beginning kept asking me where we were yesterday, seems like she forgot all what they offered me. After I reminded her, she told me that another $500 off from $20xxx is not possible ! She cleverly said that the new price after $500 cut from $20xxx was a price with my trade-in-price included. This is 100% absolutely nonsense at all ! Why ? Because before I left yesterday, I already told them that if they gave me the same price other dealers offer, they would lose their advantage, because another dealership is closer to my home. The price which they agreed to match HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH TRADE-IN, because our discussion regarding trade-in, like Jason's $1000, $1500 blah blah, were all after I told them that I could not accept their price if it was the same as others. As a summary (1) Bernardi Honda agreed to match other dealers price, but did not want to beat that price. (2) I did not accept this matching, because it was not an advantage for me over other dealership; (3) Jason started to offer good things about my car trade-in-price. I stopped this discussion, because he seemed not serious. (4) I tried to leave. (5) Someone inside the office, a 3rd person, stopped me saying " $500 more off " from my price. (6) They all agreed to offer me that "$500 more off". I asked them to confirm, a couple of times that this $500 off was from $20xxx. They all agreed. (7) After 1 day, they didn't want to keep any promise, saying that the so called "$500 off" was for a price with my trade-in included. You can judge ! Just one hint, do some maths, if the price, $20xxx - $500, was truly a car-trade-in-included value, considering that they already agreed to use a non-trade-in-included $20xxx to match other dealership, did they mean that my car-trade-in value was zero before that guy shutedHappy with Sales
by sjo4 on 12/12/2009My daughter was looking for a car at a dealership she could trust. She let her parents look for her and we found a great Accord from Bernardi for the price that we were interested in. The internet team helped us out and we met with a… great salesperson named John. The weather was freezing but he didn't let that sway him. We were happy and she is going to be happy. This is a place that she trusted since the service department listened to her concerns about our car (which we bought from Bernardi) and hers and took her seriously. Thanks we are very happyThey tried every trick in the book!
by wantedtobuy on 10/10/20091) made a deal with a specific car that was no longer available and tried to charge me to get the correct car. 2) lying about the price by at last second throwing a "destination charge" while writing up the paperwork. 3) when I tried to… deal with the sales manager he sent a noncommital email for which I asked clarification which he chose to ignore. 4) had my poor review removed from dealerrater.com which is where they suggest you look for reviews. They pay to be able to remove reviews. dealerrater would not respond to an inquiry about why the review was removed.Deceptive Ads, Deceptive Salespeople.
by mrenadette1 on 08/03/2009I was helping my sister-in-law find a new Civic. Called Bernardi on Friday, August 31st to inquire about Bernardi's ad on their website for a 2009 Civic EX with auto. Spoke with Joe Acquino and he confirmed the ad was for not for… only for just a single model, but any EX with auto. I asked Joe to confirm the numbers on the ad which were $189/month with no money down. Fees listed on the ad were $595 Honda acquisition and $299.75 dealer fee. Joe confirmed these numbers were accurate and the only thing missing was title fee of $111. Told Joe my sister-in-law would call later to set up a time to close the deal. My sister-in-law called Joe later that evening to set a time for Saturday. She again reviewed the numbers with Joe. She visited Bernardi on Saturday to close the deal. Joe wasn't available, so she was told she would work with Joe's boss, Charles Sectish. Charles reviews the numbers with my sister-in-law and tells her she also has to pay for destination fee of $710. She stands her ground and tells him that wasn't part of the deal. Charles tells her OK we will not require her to pay the destination fee. He then comes back and has jacked up the monthly payment to cover the destination fee. To her credit she walked out on them. Do not waste your time with these guys. Their sales people are not ethical and their advertising is clearly deceptive. I intend to register a complaint with the State Attorney General over the deceptive advertising.Good experience - just be prepared - here are some tips
by blueace88 on 07/31/2009Overall, we had an excellent experience. MaryKate was very easygoing, and really listened to us. Everyone else we dealt with was very nice as well. (Except for George who tried to reject our loan... but it went through in the end, so I'm… not too bothered by that). They are tough negotiators - they keep insisting that their prices are "pre-negotiated" for you. Don't buy it. I sent the closer back to his office 3 times, and ended up with a deal I'm very happy with: 2008 Civic Hybrid at $1000 below sticker. Don't forget to negotiate on the value of your trade - look it up before you go in! Two things that really helped. 1. We had a pre-approved loan from our bank, so they couldn't push us around on financing. 2. We did research for a month, and knew EXACTLY what we wanted and how much it should cost before we even set foot on the lot. I really think these two things helped us avoid a lot of the unpleasantness associated with buying a used car. Even after they had our money, they were very attentive - filled the tank, gave us a free inspection, free oil change voucher, made sure we understood all the paperwork, etc. Plus, the car is certified, which puts me at ease that it has no problems of any kind.BAD EXPERIENCE - CANNOT BE TRUSTED
by jonboston on 03/29/2009I'm still a bit perplexed by my whole experience at Bernardi. My search for 2 new cars began 2wks ago. I was looking at the Pilot & Accord. I live very close to Bernardi & thought I'd start there. When I arrived to test drive, I was… greeted by Jay Grey. I told Jay I was looking for 2 cars but wouldn't be purchasing today. I was early in the process, but it would happen in the next few wks. Jay was helpful & knowledgeable about his products. Although when I asked him how sales were in lieu of the economy, he said "Great. Honda has been solid with surprisingly little impact other than in Nov/Dec having a slight decrease." I was a bit surprised by that statement & later found out Honda's sales were down 30-40% in Jan/Feb. After test driving the Pilot, Jay gave me some general pricing guidelines & we'd be in touch. I then received various other quotes & did extensive research on both cars. I decided to bring my wife to test drive again. We were told Jay was out & worked with Alex. He helped us with test driving both cars. We were generally impressed & wanted to discuss numbers. Alex asked Jeff Keast(Sales Mgr)to help. Jeff gave us a detailed written quote on the Pilot & basically wrote down a quote on the Accord EX-L w/NAV. We asked how long the offer would be valid & he said for this month. I then mentioned I might want to trade my current car in. He said no problem. He's not really worried about the trade but simply wants to get our business hence the aggressive pricing. We took the numbers home, shopped around & no one could touch these combined prices. We emailed Jeff & Jay to set up an appt. When I didn't hear back, I followed w/a call. When I spoke w/Jay & Jeff, I asked them to clarify the numbers & wanted to verify everything again to not waste my time. When Jay heard the price I was quoted on the Accord he said it sounded too low. He wanted to make sure it was WITH Navigation so he asked Jeff. Jeff said yes, but only if I were purchasing both cars. I said ok, came in and spent 2.5hrs reviewing colors, finalzing numbers, etc. We also had our '03 Nissan Pathfinder(49.6k miles,no accidents,6-disc CD,SE,4WD,moonroof,great condition)appraised for trade-in. It is valued on Edmunds/Kelly BB at $8.4k-9.3k depending on Excel or Good condition. You can imagine my surprise when Jay came back w/$6k trade-in value. I was a bit insulted. He claimed they were only offering $6k b/c we were getting such a deal on the Accord & they'd "need to make up the $$ elsewhere." I said how is that possible when last week I was given 2 quotes for the Pilot/Accord based on not even having a trade-in. I never mentioned the trade-in until I was leaving. When I asked for the pricing w/o the trade-in, I was told the price would go up. I was not happy. Jay then came back with the KBB value print off on my car & said no used cars are listed as excellent unless they're in a showroom & most vehicles are listed as fair & not good. Are you kidding me? My car is in at least good if not excel condition. But I was still willing to settle for good considering the great deal I was getting. Even the fair price on my car was $7.5k. Jay says his manager, Seth, is not so flexible & will see what can be done. Miraculously he comes back w/$7.5k. But, they still don't have either car in the color I want. Jay goes on to say that "there are no other local dealers that have the color we're looking for" as he checked. He also claimed when we walked in that "NO New England dealer has a Pilot EX available & there will be no more coming in for a while." Jay comes back & asks me what it's going to take to get the deal done. I tell him my price & we finally agree on less than my price. He asks for a credit card & starts the paperwork. We're now there for 2.5hrs & have a babysitter waiting. We say we need to get going & he says no problem. He comes back 15mins later to say Seth thought we were buying the Accord WITHOUT Navigation, so he's very sorry but no deal. What? I had callBernardi a bust!
by mac79 on 03/14/2009We called and asked for a specific car. Bernardi assured us they were getting the car at the end of the month. We went in, spent the time negotiating a deal, and then after the agreement was reached the salesman let us know that the car… wasn't really what we asked for; it was a different color. Beware of being lied to by this dealership!Bernardi Is Great!!!
by lmszymanski on 11/07/2008We had been searching for an 06 Pilot EXL for months, visiting many dealerships and private sellers. We received a call from Charlie at Bernardi's internet department saying they had a car for us. (i had given him my name and requirements… about 1 or 2 weeks prior. He was also well aware of our price restriction. (most dealerships would only sell us an 05 in our price range.) We drove an hour away and met with Pete Nannery. He was so pleasant, easy going and friendly, but not overly, fake friendly. He immediately showed us the car and went over everything. After test driving, we negotiated the car. The negioation took about 10 minutes and to our surprise Bernardi accepted our offer. We didn't spend a penny more than we were able to or intended. And while we were negotiating the car, there were other customers looking at our vehicle so i'm sure they would have sold this car if not to us to someone else that day. I'm also convinced that they would have sold it for more than our price. We also had other employees, mgrs coming up to us shaking our hands thanking us for our business. I had never seen anthing like this. So if you want a non stressful, car buying experience, Pete Nannery at Bernardi Honda is the only way to go. Also, Pete delivered the car to me an hour away just a few days later with a full tank of gas. We didn't have to drive back all that way.Worst experience ever
by rprattip on 08/22/2008The place to go to if you're looking for highly obnoxious, rude sales managers. Just because I asked the sales manager why is destination charge included again in his worksheet to the already included internet price quote I received for… 2009 Honda Pilot EX-L with DVD, he tells his sales assoicate (Hani Yousef) that he can't work with me and leaves after throwing the cobbled worksheet at me. I could not hear clearly what he murmered but it seemed like expletive remarks which was added bonus to the humiliating experience infront of my family. Unfortunately I did not get the name of the sales manager to share. Definitely a place to stay away from if you're expecting to be treated like a human being with respect. It hurts me to give these bad reviews because of one sales person but I do not want any other person to go through the same experience as I did today. I will also be sharing this experience with my friends and family so that they will be aware of what to expect if they ever step into a Bernardi dealership. That said, their internet sales people especially Bruce Gibson and Charlie are excellent to work with. They are very friendly and seem like honest people. I wish that their sales staff is as nice as them. As a courtesy, I talked to Bruce and explained my experience for which he apologized and tried his best to win my business back. I did tell him that I'd rather pay more price at another dealership where I'd be treated with respect than buy a vehicle at Bernardi dealerships. I wish these folks only the best with their rude sales people.Worst sales I have ever seen
by sferreira on 08/01/2008Ok, let me get this out of the way first. I am a professional Outside salesman of 5 years. I sell over 2 million dollars worth of material with the average sale only being $500. I can tell you these guys were horrible and very… unprofessional They were literaly yelling at me telling me I didn't know what I was talking about. A big sales nono!!! I fealt like I was in a commedy show. The salesman was ok but even he didn't come across as that professional. Don't bother with these guys I assure you they are less honest then an average car salesman. Do your homework on your trade in as well if you do bother with them, whether it be on edmunds, Blue book, or ebay completed sales section. With these guys you will need it.Very Bad Experience
by hondahunt on 03/17/2008We purchased our new Civic and for the price we got snowed with, we could have had an Accord. Their excuse was "since your credit is bad, this is what you have to pay in order to be approved". Which doesn't make sense- why would they want… us to take a loan out on even more money?? I am so incredibly ashamed and disappointed that I purchased this car. We worked with George- and I am shocked that he is able to sleep at night. Well, he probably sleeps well in the bed of money that he has from ripping people off. We were stuck and in a bind, and they saw us coming a mile away. NEVER go to Bernardi and if they give you George, walk out. We had visited Herb Chambers first, and they were shady off the bat. At least we knew we were getting shady there. Bernardi is SLIMY. Ric from Bernardi appeared to be genuine and caring, and then they hand you off to 3 other peeps and then you go to George's office. where WHAM they add on all these fees and services that you don't need and end up paying WAY more than sticker price. And the kicker is that George said "I like you so much, I am including all of this for free". And I should know better- NOTHING COMES FOR FREE. But, he APPEARED to be a nice guy- NOT. So I have learned that you don't trust anyone who sells cars and learn to walk away. They even pressured me to sign over the title BEFORE I saw the loan amount. Yes, I am that dumb. It was late and I clearly wasn't thinking. So yes, I allowed all this to happen. But I wanted to warn other people to avoid this dealership, and George like the plague. He had us so confused when we left there, and we signed things we shouldn't have. When we went back the next morning to cancel the warranty (which reads that you have 60 days to get a refund) they told us that we needed it in order to keep the financing. I called the Attorney General's office where they referred me to the division of Banks, where they told me that this was not legal. Then here's the best part- when we went back a week later to get the car inspected, they offered us a free oil change. My previous car was a VW Jetta, and when I was not pleased their service, (which was maybe twice in the 8 years I went to them) they gave me 4 free oil changes. One oil change makes up for ripping me off $4000+?? really? Thanks!Great Buying Experience
by tnt14879 on 01/29/2008I bought my 2007 Honda Accord from Bernardi. I'd recommend them for several reasons. Firstly, after shopping around at places like Herb Chambers, Bernardi was refreshingly non-sleasy. The sales associate (Jessie) was awesome to work with.… She was straight foward, pleasant, and helpful. She gave me the info I wanted without a run-around (other dealers didn't want to say they didn't have the car I wanted - they gave me vague answers for several phone calls / e-mails) and kept to the price she quoted over the phone. Secondly, I had been looking for a specific model (the SE) which was pretty hard to find by the time I bought my car. Bernardi was the only dealer that was able to get it for me. Thirdly, the service in general was great. They have a nice waiting area with a tv, complimentary coffee / tea , and a play section for little kids. The service station has valet and they take care of everything for you. They were quick with the paperwork - I was able to drive the car off the lot the day I bought it. My sales associate even called a few weeks after my purchase to check up on how I like the car. Aside from haggling over price (which you have to do no matter where you go) buying my car at Bernardi was actually an enjoyable experience.Excellent Dealership
by nasq on 01/19/2008Great customer service, best purchasing experience! They met the price point that I sought. I had very unique requests, which required the dealership to locate the only vehicle left in New England. They were methodical about going through… the paperwork, and demonstrating all the features available in the car once it was received. Highly recommend this dealership to potential customers.THIS PLACE [non-permissible content removed]
by donotgohere1 on 10/30/2012updated 08/03/2025Sorry to say but do not take your family or friends to this dealership. The salesperson George will do and tell you anything to make a sale. We were misinformed about a pre-certified car, and only after the sale the next day, did the… salesperson decide to tell disclose that parts to the car were broken. What is even worse is that the dealership Manager, Mr. Seth M., supports his staff's on going unprofessional and illegal work ethics. There are no work ethics! If you buy it used, and it is a lemon you are simply [non-permissible content removed]. Go to another dealership where the staff and Mangers are friendly and honest. Unless, you like getting [non-permissible content removed] over and over again by George and his manager. Shame on you! Hopefully, this dealership will go out of business soon, so other families won't be ripped off and lied to like we were. UGH! NEVER AGAIN!Completely negative experience
by veector on 06/21/2011updated 08/03/2025This dealer talks a good game, but does not follow through on promises made. My wife and I felt like we were being treated fairly until the day of delivery and everything after that with the dealership went wrong. Please do not purchase… with Bernardi Honda.buying our 2012 cr-v

by joe287 on 02/16/2013updated 08/03/2025Buying a car is a tough proposition even without the hassle of a dealership. But add on some sales guy who is getting pressured to sell for the best price and it is a daunting task. I found a decent rep to work with at Bernardi's… (initials AM. To get the name just reverse the name of the famous boxer from the 70's and you have the reps name). I met with 2 other [non-permissible content removed] at first and told them point blank "I dont want to work with you" before finding AM. This made the process much better. He was informative, easy to speak with, and knew his business. During the purchase he tried to beat me up on price but I knew what i wanted and we met in the middle as I was on my way walking out of the showroom. Overall the experience was good. But, that is because I knew what i wanted and what to ask for when i walked in. This is a MUST if you are going to buy from a dealership. The rest after that is gravy. It seems most dealerships treat their reps pretty poorly. They dont get it. It's the rep that the customer works with, not the boss, and if the rep isnt happy it just comes out all over the place. The rep is the face of a dealership, make em happy and you will see more happy customers.Honda SE 2012
by gooddriver on 11/06/2011updated 08/03/2025This dealer gave me one of the two best prices. However, another dealer had slightly lower doc fee, I never went to this dealer, so I cannot comment on my experience.

First, I know nobody at Bernardi. I never have even been there. This reviewer is blaming Bernardi for his/her inability to haggle a good deal. Every dealer will try to maximize profit on each and every deal. That goes with the territory. You have nobody to blame but yourself, if you don't like the deal YOU agreed to.
