Worst Car Buying Experience
by eagle40b on 01/26/2010Some details of why I would never purchase a vehicle from Commonwealth Honda: Started off dealing with the internet guy. He was relatively helpful, so I figured I would check out Commonwealth. Heading in to my visit with them, I… consider myself well educated in the whole process, and I like to perform plenty of research before I acquire a vehicle. This includes researching all aspects of the vehicle pricing. I explore all information, and record Invoice Price, Dealer Holdback, Reserve, etc, etc - arriving at a "net, net" cost of a vehicle. Compared to the MSRP, we've both got our starting points for a negotiation. I arrived at Commonwealth Honda with my wife, and two children. We briefly met Craig Clark, and were then paired up with a salesman named "Franklin." Franklin was seemingly helpful at first - showing us the vehicle and answering our questions about it. We also asked for our Honda Odyssey to be appraised for trade-in, as we were considering our options to either privately sell it or trade it in. When we began negotiating, my experience went south very quickly. Franklin showed us the MSRP on the vehicle, and an initial (low) offer on the trade-in. I told Franklin two things at that point. First, that I wanted to negotiate the two transactions separately. Second, that I was looking to acquite the Pilot Touring + Nav & RES at around the $36,000 range. After all, he began with the MSRP, so I was going to begin with something close to the "net, net" figure. Ultimately I was looking to purchase the vehicle close to the stated Invoice Price of $37,152. Franklin did a couple of things that helped me quickly come to the conclusion that I wasn't doing business with him or Commonwealth. When I told him that I viewed an invoice for this vehicle and saw that the net, net was in the low $36K range, he told me I was "wrong." Being told I was wrong was not a huge deal at that point, but he wasn't exactly winning me over. He then said he had to go back to the Sales Mgr to discuss things, and he asked if I was going to buy today. I told him I might if the number was right, even though we had earlier told him that the vehicle color that was available was not our first choice. When he came back, we began talking a bit more about the trade-in and how I needed to discuss things with friends of ours (possibly interested in buying our Odyssey) so we could determine if we would privately sell it or trade it in. He then told me I was "dishonest" with him because I said I might buy today and now it appeared we weren't. At that moment, we weren't going to by from Commonwealth Motors because of him, not our trade-in. Commonwealth lost us forever. Who is this kid to question my integrity? One other note is that somewhere along the line we discussed our 2004 Honda Odyssey EX. It came up just after I told him that if anybody pays MSRP for a vehicle, then they are not an educated buyer. This came on the heels of him saying BMW's go for $2k-$3k more than invoice - as if that has anything to do with me buying a Honda. He proclaimed that we most certainly paid MSRP in 2004 for our Odyssey. I told him we didn't, and he said that Odysseys were in high demand so we had to have paid around MSRP. Just out of curiosity, I looked up the price we paid and it was $24,600. Based on a quick search online, Invoice was listed as right around $24,300. Needless to say, where does he get off telling me on multiple occasions that I'm "wrong", "dishonest", and then refuting something else I mentioned. Although at this point I was completely put off by his lack of courtesy, and professionalism, I calmly said thanks for showing me the vehicle but that I would like my Odyssey keys back. He said he had to go get them from the Manager. As we walked toward the Sales Manager's desk, he said something about us not being on the same page with the pricing. by awdhonda on 01/24/2010I Just picked up my new Crosstour from Commonwealth and it is awesome. Everyone who helped me was great. I started on the internet and found the Black vehicle in their inventory. I went back and forth a few times with email and went in.… Only wierd thing is the guys you speak to on the internet don't actually handle the sale but the salesman was great none the less. Price was good and everyone there was more than nice. Nothing bad to say and I will definitely go back.Never got to Commonwealth
by rtd4 on 04/05/2009We purchased one car from Commonwealth and had a variety of problems with the brakes. We took it back to be service two times and the problem was not corrected. We had a mechanic repair it on our own and everything worked fine. We… returned to purchase a second vehicle this year, thinking that the poor service was a fluke but we were lied to and treated very poorly. We were quoted a price over the phone for a car and when we got there they tried to raise the price. Craig Clark from internet sales and Joe Gerbino the sale manager were rude and very unprofessional. I will never do business there again. We called many dealers told them our price and if they could not help us they were honest and did not waster out time. Commonwealth lied simply to get us into the dealership and when we told them we were going to [another dealership] since they said they would honor the price they were very rude and threatening.AVOID THIS PLACE...

For beginners, I was told that a vehicle posted on all the car sales sites was sold 2 weeks ago...and then the fun begins. Up, down… and all around with the angles. The salesman will send out the sales manager to try to work you over sideways to Sunday who is a wolf in sheeps clothing. Anyone who has done their homework will not be treated nicely by him. In fact, once he knows you aren't an easy target, you will be rudely shown the door.Excellent
by ckn on 02/17/2008We bought an Odyssey at Commonwealth today and could not have been more pleased. Our salesman Don was excellent. He was patient, courteous, knowlegable, and friendly. I would recommend Don to everyone. The price we got was equal to the… lowest I have seen in the pricing forums but that could just be dumb luck and their desire to meet a quota since it was President's day weekend. The only downside of the whole thing was that we had to spend 3 hours yesterday and 3 hours today. I did not realize how long it takes to buy a car once you have an agreement.BAIT & SWITCH ANYONE???
by janicearyan on 11/30/2007Just wanted to let you know how badly we were treated ta COMMONWEALTH HONDA.. MY husband & I decided to buy our daughter a 2008 Honda Civic ex coupe. We drove this car at Commonwealth and the decided we like the car but need to research… price /safety etc.. So my husband began by pricing this exact same auto at no less than 6 dealers. He asked for their best bottom line deal. My husband then proceeded to let commonwealth know what that # was (17700) They hemmed and hawed tehn said ok come on by we can match taht price. So being the buyer (my husband did all the legwork) I left work early and drove up to sign my paperwork at commonwealth. THen when we get their Jim the sales mgr tells me he cant sell the car for this price..he would be losing $500. So needless to say I walked out and then bought the same car at ATAMAIN HONDA in tewksbury.2007 Accord

Got calls from the Sales person and general manage/owner a couple… days after sale inquiring of my satisfaction with the car and dealership. They went so far as to send me a small gift. They took their time to show me the car's features,parts dept,and service area.Excellent experience

Amazing

I was absolutely floored by the experience at first and continue to be completely satisfied as I drive my Honda Insight every day. At first I was greeted by an mediocre sales rep, I believe… his name was Engel? This man was about to let me walk out the door seeing as I had my heart set on the Honda Fit and they did not have what i was looking for in stock. I was then helped by the wonderful Gary K. His enthusiasm resonated with myself and my husband who were excitedly looking forward to leaving with a new Honda. Gary had asked what we ultimately wanted in our car and offered a test drive for a similar model, the Honda Insight, which succeed our requirements of good gas mileage and reliability. The entire pitch I never caught a whiff of that traditional sales man persona of a shady, money hungry, pressuring sales man. To be honest Gary seemed to genuinely care! As the test drive ensued, I began to love the car and love my experience. No question was too much for this guy, he was more than happy to engage in any request I made. As we spent a good couple hours reviewing our financing options and the logistics of the buy, myself and my husband spent that time with Gary who was just a pleasure to be around! Gary referred us to the Financing Manager John M. who was awesome. Both very personable and friendly, the entire staff made me feel welcomed. As soon as John M. lead us to his office he went straight to work for us. He kept us entertained as he went to battle. Although I had a good credit rating, my work, and my short line of credit made it difficult for John to complete the financing. Not a sweat for this guy! He worked immensely hard for me to walk out with this car and he got the job done with a smile on his face. I consider it a rarity for someone to do what this gentleman has done. In my eyes at least, he moved mountains for nothing in return but a smiling customer. The service was just simply amazing, no superb. I could not have asked for more from this team! I find it hard to put in words how much I appreciate these two gentleman and their efforts. I have and will continue to refer as many people as possible to your sterling place of business. I had the best experience at this Dealership ever. But most importantly the salesman was the best I have… ever had the pleasure of doing business with. His name is Gary A. K. Gary was so knowledgeable about his products it was a pleasure doing business with him. I would recommend him to anyone wanting to purchase or lease a new Honda. He was not at all pushy. Easy buying experience

They made the whole process incredibly… easy, working around my busy schedule as I have two young children. I shopped around and their price couldn't be beat. Run away from this dealership

We were pushed to sign without full disclosure on paperwork; they presented car for delivery without promised accessories; arrived… home to find flawed paint; then 2 months later found out that the registration was not done property--been driving around without valid registration! Had to renew ourselves for additional $50. Run run run far away from this sleazy car dealership. Be aware as well, they pay people $5/good review up to $50. That's the only way they've gotten the ratings they have. That's probably illegal as well.Excelent Sales service

Treated us well

They were extremely rude to us when we found an issue with our car that we bought from them. Tried to make it look like it was our fault that we didn't notice the problem when we picked it up. It was dark by the time they finished dragging us through too much paperwork and distractions. Kind of hard to see paint problems with they're hidden in the shadows.
