Great Car Buying experience

by Lanta137 on 04/29/2017We showed up for an appointment to look at a used car and met Walid, who was sitting behind the desk through a door labeled "office" with a small handmade sign at the Vehicle Wish facility. Walid claimed that the vehicle had a Maryland… State Safety Inspection, but could not show proof of inspection when requested. He said we would have to get online and would get no details on the car's condition other than "pass." Within 2 minutes he told me that we would be charged $100 for the inspection and $1000 more for the vehicle than the USAA / TrueCar certified price that we came there with. During the walk around and test drive we noticed several issues with the vehicle (headlight out, tires extremely worn, bad sound from the AC fan) and decided to take the vehicle to an independent mechanic for inspection. I called Walid to inform him and ask if this was ok. He freaked out and demanded that I return the car within 5 minutes or else he would call the police. I asked why and received no satisfactory answer. He told me that I could not take the car to a mechanic, yelled at me that he owned the car and continued to threaten me with calls to the police. To me this behavior clearly indicated (A) that he was trying to hide something (B) that Vehicle Wish is a shady operation. I recommend that you look elsewhere if considering purchase of a vehicle.
