Purchased vehicle, typical list of figures they use to try and throw you off. Low price for my trade-in. Salesman was OK. I was prepared for most of this, but here is what I was not prepared for. Drove car for 7 days and it had approximately 200 miles on it when my wife and I noticed the transmission would not shift into 2nd gear, I thought it might be a fluke. We took several short drives around town in the country several times after that and the same problem happened around 6-7 times total. One time I pressed on the accelerator a little and there was a "thud" when it went into 2nd gear. Also a "thud" when it down-shifted several times. Called Bruce Petro and talked to Service Department and after giving my name and address he said the car had a 2nd clutch put in it. He then said, no wait. Was this car used or new. I played dumb and said, maybe it was a used certified I can't remember. He then told me the person who drove the car 8 months ago and he brought it back because of transmission problems. So I set up a appointment to bring the car in. I then asked to be transferred to the salesman that sold it to me and told him what I just learned. He said, I will get right back with you. He did and acknowledged it had a problem but another car salesman sold the car to the first guy that returned it and he knew nothing about this. He said, don't lose any sleep over this, we will make it right, blah, blah and GM might either give you a new 07 or 08 and to bring the car in on Monday. I took the car in and one of the General Sales Managers said he could not "assume" there was a problem and wanted the Head Mechanic to drive it. I mentioned it usually had the problem when the car was cold and it probably would not happen since we just drove it around 30 miles to the dealership from our home. Also mentioned I did not know about the other guy bringing it back with the same problem until after I had problems with the car and talked with his service dept., so you say I am assuming. I knew things would go south then. Mechanic drove car, I drove it and of course transmission shifted fine. My wife and I went into the GSM cubicle and he would not take the car back or give me my trade-in since I had the car titled. (He said, you own it) Wanted to give me a loaner and leave the car there for them to fix. Knowing they did not fix it right the first time I declined and after some heated words my wife and I went directly to my lawyer. He said I did the right thing not leaving the car there and to drive it home and leave it set and not drive it. (It is sitting in garage right now) So I did the 3 step thing mentioned in the manual, tried to resolve problem at dealer, called GM and contacted BBB. These guys put my license plates from my trade-in on the new car. Since I had not traded in a car or bought a new one since 1996 I still do not know if I drove the car home illegal. To play it safe I went to the BMV the next day and had it titled. It appears they put the plate on and wanted to get me out of there. My lawyer knows all this info and talked to the first guy that returned the car. They are not getting by with this and will take legal action all the way, use the media, and since I am a 100% Disabled Vietnam Veteran and there is a website where I can get hundreds of Veterans to picket in front of their car lot and these veterans are relentless on [violative content deleted] that do this to other veterans. The outcome will be interesting. My wife was in shock after the first phone call where I learned about the 2nd clutch and a guy bringing it back. Then the last visit to the dealership, what a nightmare. They think I am taking a $30,000 car like this. In their dreams!!!!! Car dealers are known for their honesty as this situation attests to. Be careful out there folks, it is all about greed and the almighty dollar.
    • I would like to mention that Petro's made everything right with me and I am very pleased with their cooperation.

    • I would like to mention that Petro putting on the plates from my trade-in was legal. Just wanted to clear that point.

After not listening to what was wanted for the loan, in regards to order of names, they went on to do a lot of talking and not a lot of doing. I ended up finding out later that my certified preowned vehicle was never certified and had to fight with them over why it should have been. I tried to get extra keys and the mats as part of my purchase and they said the mats were in the trunk (and they weren't) and no to the keys. However, about a month later they mail keys to my house, in a standard envelope without any tracking. Never buy from them!
