Purchasing a used Mazda CX-5
by rvgliberty on 07/29/2016Great experience with their marketing staff. Went to see an advertised used 2015 Mazda which we test drove and liked very much. The dealership had a price barrier that was about 800 dollars different from my top price. They were upfront,… cordial, good communications during this time. Sales person took my name and information and said they would let me know if a trade in came that they could price nearer my top dollar. Low and behold, that evening they called with a trade in that had an additional option on it around the same mileage. Next day test drove car even before they detailed/cleaned it up and true to their word, came very close to my top dollar. So close we took it home that day. Ray Skillman Mazda on the west side of Indianapolis is trully they place to go and be treated professionally and to work with your wants and needs.Quick Sale
by hmowner on 08/01/2013updated 08/02/2025I typically am prepared to buy the the day I test drive since I come prepared with a lot of research. I called ahead to schedule test drive of different brands of car available there. It's one advantage at RaySkillman, since a single sales… person can arrange upto 4 different brands for test driving. Spoke with the manager via phone first and came in to dealership to test drive couple cars, decided which brand I liked the best and then left with an out-of-the door price...I don't care what extra items they put in the quote, I only ask for the out-of-the door price. Came back to the same after getting couple quotes from other dealers via email. RaySkillman wasn't the lowest, it was couple hundred higher, but since I spent few hours with the sales person, he deserved my business. Drew was always professional and cordial. I even asked him to pick up few parts for me before the parts department closed and he did. (Though the parts department charged more than the MSRP "retail" price for the filter and gasket I bought... That's another story, but I won't be buying any parts from this dealer) The wait to complete the paperwork was the same as other dealership (couple hours to finish). The time spent with the business manager was short. No pressure situation at anytime. The only comment that I withheld while I was there was when the sales manager stated that the quote he was giving me was only good for that day only, I was ready to say that the rebate will only increase to move the old inventory... but I only smiled. The car's door panel info indicated that the car was produced over 8 months ago and it's been probably sitting at the dealer lot for nearly that long, so I knew the dealer was hoping to make the sale quickly. The car's sticker said dealer installed extras were windows tinting and Ziebart rust proofing. I requested that these extras be removed from the quote and the sales manager agreed. BTW, the tint had few flaws (air bubbles) and there was absolutely no evidence of ziebart rust proofing under the car, when I came home and inspected various portions of the car... Anyway, I didn't pay for them, but it's something to watch out for at this dealer. In short, I personally did not have much to complain about the sales experience.Unacceptable
by kylejj on 08/16/2013updated 08/02/2025I went in with having done a lot of research of price and how to shop, but still got duked. I am not a push over either. The salesman was nice, but highly inexperienced, on the test drive he drove the car half the time, then allowed me to… finally drive. I had test drove a similar car at another dealer, so that did not bother me much. When dealing with price, I laid it out and they were quick to jump on it, which I was happy about. I went in with my own financing from my credit union but gave them the chance to beat it, they did. I liked that. But then the finance guy tried to add everything and anything that I did not need nor want. He worked hard on making me feel guilty, and the process took MUCH longer than it should have. Because I kept saying no. But we got the deal done finally. The final kicker and the part that really had me steamed was while I was cleaning out my old car, I was trading in, my sales guy approached me with a sheet of paper stating that the car I had bought (I had already signed all the papers for the deal) might have hail damage, in which when I went to look at the roof of the car, there was greater then 20 small dents from hail damage. The dealer took car of and promised it would not be on a carfax that the car had been damaged and repaired. The dealer did pay for the repairs. The salesman failed to disclose before the deal was final, which it was no wonder they were quick to jump on my price offer. I left the dealer feeling duke and pissed. I LOVE my car. I know bought the right car, just not from the right dealer. The first Mazda dealer I went to was worse, therefore it might be a Mazda thing. Which I know a lot about business. Mazda makes a great product, it is just that their business model is awful, which is why the other Japanese makers have surpassed them. I love my car! The zoom zoom is for real, but I am going to work harder to find a better dealer. I will mostly buy another Mazda and I recommend the brand and car, but the dealership need some work!Disappointment
by fww on 04/30/2012updated 08/02/2025We went to look at cars. Salesman greeted us, very friendly and not pushy. We talked a little and came back to drive the car. They said they had a bigger rebate on 2011 then 2012 and they located a car for us. Then they tried to push and… add Doc fees as well as window etching. When I asked why they said they were mandated by the Attorney General's office and the BMV. I called both and found out that was not true. This would have added another $550.00 to the agreed purchase price. Then we went back to look at a Honda but they had no 2011's so we ended up buying from this dealership. I am not happy with the car itself but that's another story. All of the people I talked to at the dealership were very nice, cordial, friendly but the lie about "packing" got to me. I would not buy from them again.
