  • Deceptive Practices

1 out of 5 starsby BewareofCoggin on 03/25/2018

Filled with [non-permissible content removed] and dishonest people. Bought used car through them, told them to use a specific bank to finance the car. However, they used another bank that is Wells Fargo. Coggin and Wells Fargo go hand in hand. Both [non-permissible content removed].

  • FALSE ADVERTISING!!! STAY AWAY!!!

1 out of 5 starsby Lexicon on 04/05/2017

Worked out price, trade in and zero percent financing on Saturday 4-1. Car was scheduled to be delivered to dealership and picked up today...AND THEY CHANGED THE DEAL!! We have perfect credit. Discussed with salesperson SEAN WILHELM that we would be buying new since there was ZERO PERCENT financing and he agreed it was a great rate (advertised currently on their website today 4-4-17)! Sales Manager GREG ALDERMAN finalized the agreed price for our car that was to be picked up today. So imagine our outrage when we were told today that although we have pristine credit we could have not have the ZERO percent advertised financing! Why, you ask, according to general manager JOHN CLARK they gave us a lower price so we cannot have the advertised ZER0 percent financing. WHAT?? Pure game playing, unethical management. STAY AWAY from this unethical dealership. What a waste of time!!!!

I had the best experience on buying my first new car last year not presured at all and gave me the best deal ever . I'm bringing my son tomorrow to buy a new car from here because I feel I can trust them and I know they won't give me a hard time.

  • Great Service

    5 out of 5 starsby skg32070 on 11/28/2015

I came from South Carolina to purchase a used BMW X5. I could not have been more pleased with the service I received over the phone from them. We began discussing my trade and the car of interest over the phone. They handled all the paper work and financing before I made the long drive to see the vehicle in person. I have purchased many vehicles from other dealerships and this was one of the best buying experiences I have ever had. Thank you and I will be sure to buy any future vehicles from them again. They also backed up their vehicle with a warranty.

    5 out of 5 starsby LuvMyRAV43711 on 09/12/2015

I have been dealing with Coggin Toyota for several years and my most recent experience was the best yet - very little haggling required, price and trade-in values great, no pressure to purchase during any aspect of the deal and deal closed in short time frame.

  • Beautiful dealership and Beautiful people

A absolutely no pressure a very speedy deal, our salesman did not try to talk us into anything and we got to test drive our car by ourselves.

The experience from walking in the door to driving out with my new auto was amazing! The sales associate Henri was on point, knew his stuff and did not push on anything other than what i wanted. The finance/final docs gentleman Mr Clements carried over the great service and honesty from Henri which made the whole process seamless and avoided any additional stress
  • Excellent pricing...great salesperson

    5 out of 5 starsby Siennaguy2 on 07/10/2015

I looked for a Toyota Sienna from several dealers...Coggin had the best pricing period. James D'ambrosio worked with me and I highly recommend him. Great communication.
  • Deceptive

    1 out of 5 starsby jasonb9 on 10/21/2014

Bought 2 cars from Coggin toyota. Cars are great we loved the cars but as always things get funny during the buying and financing process. There were discrepancies in our bill of sales too many funny numbers being moved around. Told them to cancel extended warranty only to find out months later it was never cancelled. Director said it was a "mistake" on their end. If it was a mistake why were we never notified! Here we are thinking our warranty was cancelled when we had it all along. Shame on the finance team. This is no ordinary mistake this is thousands of dollars that we are 100% entitled too. Will never buy cars from this dealership again. Sales guy was professional and that's about the only good thing I have to say.
    • I am glad you wrote about your purchases so that we can work together to resolve your concerns. Please contact me at 904-638-1186 so we can look into the extended warranty and discuss any additional concerns you have. Thank you, Kathryn Stater eCommerce Manager

  • Best price

    4 out of 5 starsby O12KqhUpsOmWy9 on 09/27/2014

Bottom line: Best price in the area for the car that I wanted. I was somewhat disappointed that a deal I was offered on a Friday afternoon was no longer available on the following Monday morning supposedly because some limited number of manufacturer incentives had been used up over the weekend. I have no way to know if this was true or if the sales team simply saw the likelihood of getting a little more money from me since I had returned apparently ready to buy. If the latter, it was successful. I took the price offered because it was still less that that from four other dealers I had visited. The person doing forms and contracts presented me with a chart of several columns each containing a list of things with the resulting payment at the bottom. He even pointed to the lowest payment with the suggestion that it was the best for me. It was incredibly careless of me, but I agreed, only to realize later that I had accepted things I didn't want including an extended warranty and motor club membership. I eventually got rid of the extras, so no permanent damage was done and I readily acknowledge my carelessness, but I still feel that it would have been more ethical behavior for the chart used to contain a column with no extras and a correspondingly lower payment. After agreeing to buy, I was told that the car would be available in about seven days. This turned out to be twenty-three days. My changing colors in the middle of the final negotiations could possibly have contributed to confusion which might have contributed to the very inaccurate estimate. I don't know. When I finally picked up the car, one more attempt was made to use the aforementioned chart to get me to accept an extended warranty and motor club membership. Whether this was due to having forgotten previous conversations or was one last attempt to get me to carelessly accept something I had decided against, I don't know, but this time I was paying attention and declined. Due to all of the above except price, I'm unable to give five stars, but I have to give four due to the price seeming to be the lowest available.
    • I am glad that you wrote about your experience. My team does its best to find the lowest price available for each customer's unique experience. I am glad that you were vigilant about turning down the options you did not need. If you would like to discuss your options, please contact me at 904-638-1186 or ask for me at your first scheduled service visit. Thank you, Kathryn Stater eCommerce Manager

  • Excellent Customer Service provided by Mr. Phillip M, Sales Associate

5 out of 5 starsby jerryjr on 09/03/2014

Mr. Phillip M exceeded all of my expectations throughout the sales process. My last four cars/SUV have all been Toyotas. I have dealt with Sales Representations from California, Virginia, Florida, Mr. M is the BEST. He went out of his way to ensure that I was completely satisfied and purchased the vehicle purchased the Tacoma that I really wanted. I didn't bring any of the necessary paperwork with me or the trade in. He made all of the calls and constructed the deal without having that input, amazing work. He deserves the highest accolades that your Coggins has to offer. Thank you Mr. M for your courteous and professional service. I am really enjoying my new Toyota Tacoma, what a beautiful vehicle!
    • I am proud of the service my team provides so I am so happy to hear that Philip was able to provide you top notch service after your wide experience. We are here to help you maintain your new Tacoma in any way we can. Best, Joe McGuire General Manager

  • Avoid the Sales Manager

    2 out of 5 starsby leslies2 on 08/02/2014

I wanted to do business with Coggin Toyota at The Avenues since it is right down the street from where I live. The sales representative, Kenneth, was so kind and helpful; we hoped to finalize the transaction with him. But when the manager (Joe?) got involved during the price negotiation, it was the typical high-pressure sales schtick with all the cliches. Did not have the patience to deal with it, so we left. Felt bad for the sales rep, because he was awesome. Ended up purchasing our new Prius 2 at another dealership, which was a low pressure environment. If you can work with Kenneth, but avoid Joe(?), you will have a great experience.
    • Leslie, Thank you for coming to us for your recent purchase. We want to make all our customers feel comfortable through the buying process. Came to find out today that the business is not accredited by the Better Business Bureau and has a rating of F in a scale of A+ to F. It has 20 complains against them, five of then the dealer did not responded to the complain and two of them the dealer failed to resolve the issue.
    • Thank you for working with us to find your next vehicle. We are very appreciative of the service and business of our local military so I am sorry to hear that you left with unanswered questions. I would be happy to speak with you about your purchase to answer your questions if you would contact me at 904-638-1186 when you have time to discuss your visit. • I'd Never Buy From Coggin Again

1.3 out of 5 starsby tomlokey on 08/08/2008

I wish I'd known about this dealer evaluation sight before purchasing a 2007 4Runner in August 2007. My purchase experience at Coggin was among the worst I've had in over 40 years of buying cars. When I first met the salesman, I explained that I was not there to negotiate and that he had one chance to give me his best offer. His offer was actually more than the MSRP sticker on the vehicle! I immediately terminated the conversation and walked out of the dealership. The general sales manager stopped me, and he was able to give me essentially invoice price for the 4Runner plus more than $1,000 more in trade on my old vehicle than initially offered. My salesman tried repeatedly to have me call his relatives for insurance and mortgage financing; in my mind, that was very unprofessional and bordered on being unethical. The salesman also asked over and over, almost demanding, that I give him top ratings on the after sale survey from Toyota; needless to say, that didn't happen. Would I purchase another vehicle from any Coggin dealership? Never.
  • Ended up good

    4.4 out of 5 starsby hunter59 on 03/07/2008

I first have to say: This was my third time to visit Coggins Toyota. The first time was looking for a new Tocoma. I had the worst experience I think I ever had at a dealership, I didn't buy and never went back to look at the trucks again, that was 8 months ago. Now present, my daughter was looking for a used car for $15,000 limit. After looking online, pricing on Edmonds, she was sure she could find a 2004 - 2005 Honda Accord or Toyota Camry. We went to Coggins, Talked to a salesman for 30 minutes only to be told he had a station wagon and another car she didn't want. We left kinda mad that he wasted our time. I took off work a week later and we started out early visiting dealers. We were not finding anything she wanted. We thought we had a 2004 Honda at Carmax but ended up walking away when we could never settle a price. While looking at another dealership, the salesman acknowledged he didn't have anything for her, but said his son also sold cars and he would call him. When Don called us and told us he had 3 Camry's that was in her range we decided to go take a look. My daughter told him that we had been there a week prior and wasted our time with no cars to even consider. He assured us that he had 3 on the lot. When we arrived he showed us the cars, a 2005 and 2 2006's, the 2006's had 34,000 miles and 18,000 miles. The one with 18,000 miles was a color she liked, he gave us the keys and told us to take a drive and they would look over her trade(2002 Blazer 100,000 miles). While driving we both were convinced they would never sell this car for her price limit($15,000). After a short talk the salesman(Don) came back with a price well over her budget, we smiled and chuckled and said thanks, we had one more car to look at. He told us to wait a minute and left. His manager talked to us, explained their position, I explained ours, then to our suprise he offered the car for $15,200, I almost fell out. I pulled my daughter to the side and told her that was the deal of the day, no comparision of a 2004 Honda Accord, 41,000 miles for 14998 to a 2006, 18000 miles Camry. Then the deal got sweeter, she had financing already, but they beat her's by a full point and for whatever reason the price kept dropping, not by a lot, but dropping. Ended up at $15,169. Edmonds says it should retail at $17,445. I now have a better feeling about Coggins Toyota, it boils down to the salesman and manager that is working you. My daughter loves her car and loves the gas mileage. She loved her Blazer(bought at a different Coggins Dealership), but the gas mileage driving to school and work was hurting her. All ended up GOOD.
  • Coggin Toyota of the Avenues --- Worst Buying Experience Ever!!!

1.5 out of 5 starsby kevpaskey on 11/07/2007

I found what I thought was a good deal on a late model Toyota through one of their on-line ads. I called the dealer and made arrangements to fly out and pick up the car over a weekend. Just before I was to fly out, I got a call from my "salesman" stating that they had "mistakenly" listed the price without the magical manufacturer certification which had now added $1000 to the price!!! At this time I should have smelled a rat, but had already made a promise to sell my old car to a relative so I resigned myself to go forward. I arrived in Jacksonville on Saturday and went to the dealership. I had never seen a Toyota dealership like this with just a "greasy" feeling coming from everything like salesmen using profanity within earshot of families to the over-flowing trashcans in the showroom and filthy bathrooms. Thinking all I had to do was sign my papers and hit the road, they immediately sat me down outside the finance office where I was #6 in line. I got to watch young couples be offered cars way out of their price range and they have their trade-ins valued at next to nothing. I wanted to yell and warn them of the danger that lurked inside the showroom from that smiling salesman. When I finally sat down in the Finance office, they tried to sell me every extra service under the sun. I held my ground and fought them for 15 minutes until they gave up. Then came the sales contract; A $599 doc fee pre-printed right in the contract, $365 in license plate and title fees even though the vehicle would never have a Florida plate, and a $100 fee just for financing through the dealer!!!! I was speechless; the manager said this was all standard practice. Of course I didn't feel like leaving and buying a plane ticket back home, so I just signed the papers and vowed to take TWO showers that night to clean the whole Coggins Toyota ordeal off my skin. Bottom line is, I had plenty of warning how they operated. I got a relatively decent price on the car, but their adding on the additional $1000, fees, and the other shenanigans were just shocking. Never again!!!! P.S. They gave the car to me with the Fuel light flashing and said they didn't have the cash on hand to put a gallon of gas in!!!
    • I tried to buy a Pathfinder from them, but noticed the same things the reviewer felt. Just a sleazy feeling about the place. I left with my wallet intact.

Coggin Toyota responded within one business day of our request through Edmunds. Their quotes were the best we received and we in alignment with what Edmunds had prepared us for. The fleet manager was persistent in following up with us--in a good way. Unexpected life changes altered our plans to buy a vehicle as expected, but we very much plan to return to Coggin Toyota once we are back in a position to buy.
  • LOVE this 2011 Prius!!

I really love this car so far (just purchased 2 weeks ago). My advice to anyone contemplating a purchase is DO YOUR HOMEWORK (research)! I did mine, talked to the Internet Sales Rep, scheduled an appointment to value my trade and thought it was going to be a painless buying experience for once, due to all the information available to the consumer via the internet. Here is my conclusion: - Salesman did his job and came through with his part of the deal. He guaranteed me he would honor the price I was given by my insurance company (USAA). However, Toyota loves to add that 699.00 protection package, that I did not want but cannot be taken off the vehicle (I think it is an imaginary coat of protectant), and as far as the towing, labor and rental car, I already have that with my insurance. Basically, I got stuck buying this which added 699.00 to my best price I had negotiated. On the positive side, and to be fair to the dealership, they did give me a good amount on my trade, so I was willing to eat the 699.00 and continue on. - Financing, OMG what a pain! I go in pre-approved with a check and still cannot get out of finance under 2 hours (after waiting to get in for at least an hour). I told them upfront I did not want lojack, gap, or extended warranty. What did they do? Bring in another finance guy to give his best shot at selling both gap insurance AND the extended warranty. In the end, I will say it was worth the hassle, since I got the gap for 1 penny over invoice, and since they beat my USAA finance rate by 1.2 a percent, I got three more years extended warranty for about 700.00. It was a long ordeal though.....I had to say NO at least 10 times before they struck a deal that I was willing to accept. Bottom line. Keep in mind that getting the Sales Rep to take the toyo guard protection off the low pre-negotiated price is probably going to be impossible (maybe not if you are in the mood to haggle for a couple hours), and that you need to go in with your guns fully loaded to see the finance guys. Even if you already have a check in hand......You can get a good deal with them though on what they want to sell you, it just may be a lot later than sooner. Overall though my experience with this dealership was positive and even after the sale, I am still getting great customer service from my Sales Rep. I'm glad I got in on my Prius 4 when I did, it appears that they are non-existant now at the dealerships here in my area. They cannot even keep the 2's and 3's on the lot. Most of the ones they are showing in their inventory, are "scheduled", not actually there. Even the one I bought was not on the lot the day I bought it. Lucky for me it was scheduled to come in 2 days later and it did. Also, if a dealership does not show you a price online, skip them. I spoke with one of them on the phone, that told me they do not price match, so my best bet would be to go to the dealer that said they do, and I did. Two dealerships I would recommend (Jacksonville, FL area) are Toyota at the Avenues, or Lighthouse Toyota in St Augustine. Both of these dealerships were willing to accept the price that USAA provides their customers with.

Went in to test drive and get a price on a new RAV 4. The gentleman who took us for the test drive was very friendly, and somewhat knowledgeable for only having been at the dealership for 2 weeks. He is the only reason I gave them 2 stars. Then when it came time to talk price we were handed off to another gentleman who proceeded to quote us a price (no taxes or anything else included) that was $2500 over the sticker price that was on the car we just drove. Was completely insulted. How can you quote a price that much over the already established and printed sticker price on the car. The sticker price is usually already inflated and that's normally where you start the negotiations. Not here. The guy tried to apologize and say he had to give it a shot or he wouldn't be doing his job and they are a business after all and they need to make money. Not at my expense. Basically was pretty aggravated and decided to take my business elsewhere. Do your research and know the current market value for the car you are looking at before going here or you'll end up lining their pockets while emptying your own.
    • Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback about your recent visit to our dealership and, more importantly, for bringing these concerns to my attention. Customer satisfaction is our top priority. I never want someone to feel like our employees were anything less than courteous and professional or, perhaps worse, that our team is using unfair sales tactics. For this reason, I would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you in order to address the situation more specifically, clarify any remaining issues, and restore your faith in our dealership. Please give me a call at 904-638-1186. My apologies that these events occurred, and I look forward to speaking with you. Best regards, Joe McGuire, General Manager

  • Double Check Everything

As with any other dealership, do not let your guard down - they will lie and over commit and under deliver if it will make them a buck. Do not be deceived into thinking that they're any different. My experience with the sales person was fine, he upgraded me into the right car for my money and answered my questions professionally and accurately. But after negotiation, I didn't think to double check the agreed upon price and it was $200 more than I had agreed to. Too late I had signed the papers. They also didn't advise me that I would need my wife there to transfer the tag, and they were happy to have me fill out the paperwork to spend an extra $200 to buy a new tag. They knew I was trading a car in - how could they be so indifferent to the impact to me? Be better equipped than I was - be skeptical, don't trust a word they say, don't sign anything until everything is accounted for. I have three un-returned calls and two un-returned emails over the past two weeks since I bought the car.
