  • Yikes! Be Prepared!

Don't let them rush you through the process. I was told that the dealership would not be making any money on this Toyota Prius hybrid plug-in model SE. The MSRP for that car was 33, 375 and then the manufacturer incentives should have come off of that. Instead the dealership hiked up the price of my car so the incentives would go directly to them. They charged me $36,421 (which is the MSRP of the XSE ironically) and then the Toyota rebate of 4,500 came out plus acquisition fees and doc fees so my cash sale price was $32,866. I feel like if it was truly sold at MSRP, "we aren't making any money on this car," the rebate of $4,500 should have come off of the $33,375 MSRP price. This should have been $28,875. I believe that is what the Toyota manufacturing company expected. I told the salesperson that I am a low income single parent teacher and live in an apartment and would not have an 'electric available' garage to put the car in. I feel that the salesperson in knowing this should have probably leaned me towards a hybrid instead because in order for me to plug this in I have to use an extension cord. It is not recommended by the Toyota manufacturer to use an extension cord. I have a 100ft Heavy Duty cord, but still feel like it is a possible fire hazard. Honestly I feel like I've been cheated probably because I trusted in them. Also be careful in the very end there are going to be added fees that they will try to have you pay extra for like rust protection underneath. The person doing the sales of those had the audacity to say that it was my responsibility to pay for the rust protection in a leased car because I would be responsible for any of the parts rusting. We live in Vermont where there is snow on the ground the majority of the year. I feel like it is the responsibility of the car dealership to make sure these are added on to begin with. Why would you sell a car in Vermont if you knew it was going to rust within 3 years? Another thing is that there is only a warranty on car parts, (except for the battery @ 100 mile), for the first year of the car. They try to sell you an additional warranty plus many other things.
