Lied about pricing and financing

by drew2012 on 12/24/2011

Very nice people, was happy that the local Mazda dealer was able to come up with a competitive price to Mazda dealers further away. Had everything set up and agreed to before the car was transferred from another dealer (stick-shift Mazda5's are hard to find) and options installed. The paperwork they pulled out was *completely* different from the agreed upon pricing and financing. They were trying to finance $1,600 more than what should have been at our agreed to price. They finally came down on that so that I was "only" paying $300 more than the agreed to price, but in the process had to ditch the 0.9% financing I had qualified for a slightly higher rate. The financing and total price including tax, title, and registration fees was part of the original agreement with the salesman setup days in advance. In the end, I paid just a hair more for the car. They blamed it on an inexperienced salesman, but I find that rather difficult to believe. I'm almost positive this was their intended sales tactic in this case. On a plus side, a number of our friends in the area are Mazda owners, and state that the service shop at this dealer is truly top notch. I guess in the long run, having excellent car service is more important than the sales experience. I certainly don't mind paying just a little more for the car if that's what needs to happen, especially for such an affordable car. Being baldly lied to however is completely inexcusable. I would have asked for my agreement in writing if there had been any shred of ambiguity on what we would pay, and what the financing was. The agreement was made crystal clear on multiple occasions with the dealer, and I decided to take them at their word. If you buy here, make sure all agreements are in writing before committing, and double check all the paperwork before signing. They certainly didn't go out of their way to highlight the $1,600 price increase they tried to sneak in there. You can count me exceptionally disappointed. I will never buy another car through Flood Mazda again. Love the car though.

SCAMS Galore!

by robwi on 06/28/2010

If you go to this dealer you will be scammed - Beware. You will want to know how much you are going to pay for the vehicle. They won't tell you. They will tell you the approximate monthly payment. There is an excellent financing plan being offered across the country on Mazdas - 0% interest rate for 5 years, $0 down. For each $1,000 you spend, you will pay $16.67 per month. For a $20,000 car this is $333.33 per month. It is very easy for them to pile on the junk fees without you even noticing. Here's an example: They are heavily advertising "The Flood Advantage Plan". It is running heavily on sports Radio WEEi. It sounds great. They will replace your key for free, if lost, (a $300 value).Free dent repair. Free oil Changes. Free Windshield repair. Free courtesy shuttle. An additional $500 credit if you buy another car . And some kind of exchange program. The salesman will tell you that its free. You tell him you want it. On your bill they will charge you $299. My advice, Focus on the cost of the car. Ask "How much are all of your junk fees?" You can figure out the monthly cost simply by dividing the total cost by 60 payments. They will ask you for a $1,000 deposit, otherwise the car you want will be Gone. Shop around. Make sure you get a quote from other dealers, including Massachusetts dealers. Beware - If you give them the $1,000 they will not give it back easily.

Cheap, rude, [violative content deleted]!

by seanmcsean on 03/10/2010

I went to check out a pre-owned Mazda 3. The price and features seemed on target with what I was looking for. I was the only customer there on a Saturday afternoon. Lie #1: I was told over the phone that the car was equipped with Xenon headlights. When I arrived, the saleswoman Beth insisted that the car was equipped with said lights. I got in the car, turned on the lights, and they were regular projectors. She blamed this lie on her mechanic, saying the mechanic told her they were installed. I drove 2 hours to see this car, and I was angry that I was lied to. Rude: The finance/sales manager would not accept the fact that I wanted to check with my insurance company to see if my insurance would go up. The office was closed on a Saturday, and I couldn't get anyone on the phone. He tried to tell me my insurance would actually go down, and wouldn't let me out of the dealership stating my fears were completely invalid and that I was wasting his time because I wasn't interested in the car. Sure enough, I called on Monday, and it would be a few hundred dollars extra. Cheap: I told them I would purchase the car if they changed the tires. They refused. The tires were summer only tires, which doesn't make sense in New England. I would have taken a set of all seasons. They wouldn't even discount a set of steel wheels and snow tires. Lie #2: I was assured if the deal fell through, I would get my deposit back. More than 40 days later, I still do not have it back. I've disputed the charges with my credit card company. I will never go back to Flood Mazda for anything.
