Bad experience with JC Billion of Bozeman

by Jacobylowney on 08/24/2017

Highly disappointed!! I went to J.C. Billion in Bozeman, Mt. on 8/12. I did the song and dance that one usually does when buying a car: Negotiating and settling on a price and then negotiating the trade in value of the vehicle you are bringing in. I had my sights set on a used 2016 (Red) Jeep Renegade with 27,000 miles. The asking for it was on the high end of what they currently sell for used. Most dealers (Especially when selling a used vehicle) have freedom to negotiate on the price. The dealer's initial asking is always going to be higher considering that they anticipate people negotiating. In this case, Despite the fact that most of the factory warranty was nearly gone on this car, I was happy to pay the sticker price of 22,000 as the salesman seemed honest by saying that "this was a fair price for what I was getting". I paid what I felt the vehicle was worth to me though I knew that there was room for negotiation. Then comes the part where they try to "low-ball" you on your trade in. The dealership always tries to take the vehicle from you for "nearly nothing" so they can turn around and re-sell it on a used lot for an amount substantially higher! My trade in was a 2014 Nissan Juke with low miles. They came back with a trade in value of 7000. I wasted no time and stated to the car salesman that they were trying to "low-ball" me as I was insulted. He walked away (presumably to get a drink of water but under the guise of going back to the sales manager to try to get a higher trade in amount). He came back and increased the trade in amount by 1K which was still 2K short of the trade in value for this particular car. I was annoyed by this but I also realized that the salesman wants to make us much commission as he could. His reason for the low trade in value was that, "People in Montana don't like buying front wheel drive vehicles". Twenty minutes earlier, he shared that the dealership has an agreement with Southern California dealers and buyers to trade vehicles that are brought in on a trade in basis. If someone in California brings in a 4x4 and Billion has a front wheel drive car, they work out deals to get the cars to their perspective regions. The next part of my review is where I really became unhappy with the service received by this dealership. After signing the loan paperwork, I was informed that the "detailing guy" had gone home early for the day. I drove a dirty vehicle home from the lot after dropping a grand total of 31,000 which included the extended warranty and all the bells and whistles they hustle you for during the money talk. The vehicle had been taken in as a trade from another customer and had never been made ready for re-sale. The floor mats were missing, I spoke with the car salesman who seemed very confused but unwilling to get the dealership to put a set in there for me. After spending 31,000, you would think that the dealership would make a professional call by grabbing a set of floor mats? They refused. My car salesman (Chris Nord) was a 30+ year veteran with this dealership and he could not see the value of taking care of the customer so early on in the transaction. The car was missing the extra fob that normally comes with but they eventually located one. The key to open the sun roof was also missing which they said they would order. My car has never been cleaned by the dealership. Inside the glove compartment was the previous owner's paperwork and information. She was a young gal now living in Bozeman. So, I did what anyone might do in my situation, I reached out to her on Social Media to make a friendly connect to let her know I bought her jeep and to possibly learn a little bit more about the history of the vehicle. I learned that they took extreme advantage of her by offering her only 15K for trade in. I was dumbfounded that she would have agreed to it. This greatly bothered me because they just made a profit from bringing the car in @ 15K and then resold it to me for 22K (without ever having done a thing to it, much less cleaning it!) The salesman (Chris Nord) stated that they would lose money if they were to go any lower than what they were asking for it. At the time, I actually believed him. In hindsight, I realized it was just a hustle! During the paperwork process with the Finance Manger, "Colter", we had settled on the "Bank of the West" as the lender. A few days later, he calls to say that the lender was actually going to be "US Bank" which I was ok with as I am long time US Bank Customer and felt that it would look good on my profile with US Bank as having borrowed from them. When I received the corrected paperwork in the mail, the lender actually showed "TD Auto Finance". I sent a text message to the Finance Manager at Billion about this and have never received a response. Overall: On a scale of 1 to 10 for Customer experience, I would grade them @ a "1". I can honestly say that I would never do business with them again. Buyer beware!

Friendly and low pressure

by nicholasr on 04/10/2011

I recently purchased a Nissan Juke from JC Billion Nissan in Bozeman, Montana. The thing I liked most about the experience was that they were low pressure when it came to the sales experience. My questions were answered and they contacted me multiple times to let me know the status of my vehicle order.
