Questionable Tactics

by Mark on 03/23/2024

I've been doing business with MC Ford since 2006 and have purchased cars, trucks and vans for both personal and business. I'm a believer that service sells, however last Thursday this turned out to be truer than I thought. A family member had a 2016 Escape in for a check engine light, miss fire on an ecoboost cylinder. Pulled the plug, checked the cylinder for liquid and believed they found coolant because the overflow tank was empty. She was told she could put a new engine in the car or pay 278.00 for the diagnosis and leave with the car. The vehicle drove fine going in and would have driven fine leaving, affording her to think over her choices. NO! "...if you buy a new car you won't be charged the fee...". The SERVICE ADVISER WALKED HER OVER TO A SALESMAN and before I could get there to put 2 and 2 together they had a buyers order completed, less than 45 minutes. She got 500.00 for a trade in(230 if you add in the diagnosis. The service advisor told me on the phone that it's just a "tired ecoboost". I've had 3 ecoboost all over 200,000 miles. What happened to a new head with a gasket set, are all engines disposable, this wasn't provided as an option. 500.00 for the Escape in Trade! I could have parted that unit out for 3000.00. I'm willing to bet MC or a wholesaler is going to fix the head and gasket then sell the vehicle for 5k or so. She speaks English but has little understanding of English, and was not afforded any other choice or option just walked directly from Service to Sales. Illegal? No. Questionable behavior by a dealer that has shown tremendous growth since 2006, YES. Don't trust their service tactics and don't trust an ecoboost engine obviously, as they get "tired".

I finally got a hot rod.

by Jimmydingding on 02/18/2024

Matthew’s -Currie Ford rocks. I was on the road for work and typically purchased a new car every 2-3 years. After 30 years on the road I bought and sold a lot of cars. I can honestly say I have never had a dealer work as hard for my business as Matthews-Currie Ford did. I asked for a lot from them and they delivered big time.

Disappointed

by Sanibel on 11/16/2023

A few miles after leaving the dealership on the day of purchase, I had a Tire Pressure warning light, although all tires were at 35psi. Much more concerning, 100 miles later on my way home, I had an Engine Overheating warning light. I stopped, and after letting the car cool off, I needed to add 1 gallon of water. The service department at my local dealership did a coolant system pressure check and found that there was a leak around the water pump, which they replaced for a cost of $2,808.42, fortuitously covered by the extended warranty I had the premonition to purchase along with this SUV. Upon leaving, they informed me I also needed to replace the active grille shutter, at a cost of $1,752.63, not covered by the warranty. It is obvious to me, that as minimum, Matthews-Currie Ford did not perform a professional evaluation of this vehicle including an adequate road test before putting it up for sale.

New Bronco

by Bob on 11/02/2023

We drove 2 hours to see this particular Bronco. Rich was on top of our visit, had the Bronco up front and ready when we arrived. The vehicle was everything we were looking for. Purchase was very efficient and was a pleasure doing business with Rich Freeman and Mathews-Currie Ford. Thanks, Bob and Terri

It is like drinking from the fountain of youth.

by Michael Vito on 05/19/2023

Buying a car is stressful but I actually enjoyed working with Mark Gamber in the purchase of a used Mustang convertible last week. We took several test drives with the top up and down to get the full effect. To let my wife know what I was considering, we took a ride to show her the car, and then took her for a ride around the block. We went back to the dealers and worked out a trade in allowance for my old car and a final out the door price which I was satisfied with. Thank you Mark Gamber.

Be CAUTIONED

by JWard on 10/13/2022

Simply the worst buying experience of my life. Not at all a hyperbole. And I have proudly (up to this point) worked in the auto finance industry for FMC as a loan analyst for the past 8yrs. Yes, if this can happen to me it can happen to anyone. After numerous backs and forth with this dealership (Matthews Currie Ford), getting to an agreed upon figure to buy a Certified Pre-Owned 2019 Ford Fusion Titanium with 36K mile. I communicated with the Salesperson and Manager that I would be driving from Tampa (71miles-which turn out to be a 2 1/2hr drive no thanks to the hurricane relief efforts) and asked that they would pull the keys and I would come down so they could physically look at my car (which is a 2016 Ford Fusion SE) that was being traded in with the deal. I received a text from the 1st Salesperson the morning of at around 8am to confirm I was still coming in. I text back and let her know I was already in route. An hour later (stuck in traffic), I called the Salesperson and left a voice message informing her I was running a bit late. No response or acknowledgment from her (or since this point). I got to the dealership and asked for the Manager and 1st Salesperson that I had been in contact with and was advised by the front assistant they were unavailable, and I would need to talk to a different Salesperson. I let this 2nd Salesperson in on why I was there and who I spoke with, and he scampered around the Sales floor for about 10-15 minute. He then returned with the inauspicious news that the 2019 Fusion had been sold that morning to another customer! To my absolute disbelief! This would be the tip of the Iceberg. After a few minutes of me gathering myself, I ask, "so what now"? The 2nd Salesperson offered to fill up my car at the local gas Station. I politely declined and asked to speak to a Manager. Still, in shock and total disbelief. Lone and behold, in comes the Manager I had been in communication with. He apologized and re-informed me that 1 of the 2 keys had been put away, but the 2nd key was left out and the unit had certainly been sold that morning. I had to ask how they were going to make this right. He offered to look and see if they had any "comparable" units on the lot. I told him that was fine, but that it would have to be something quick as I lost an hour or 2 with my commute and needed to drive back to make my shift. He returned with a 2021 Toyota Camry SE with 28K miles going for $28K no Warranty as is. I proceeded to pull the unit (Camry) up on the dealership website. The photo checked out (no right front pictures revealing scratches to the passenger bumper). I agreed to do the deal in place of the sold 2019 Fusion but at the previous agreed figures. The Manager advised that he could get to the selling price but would only be able discount the Warranty (which should have been thrown in for my pain and suffering) as it would've been included as part of the CPO. I said ok and asked that they would put a rush in for the contract. Again, because I was now running late for work. Now, if you can imagine. Being hit with such a huge blow after doing all your research for the right car, right features, right warrant, and the right CPO rate. All being lost and having to pick up the pieces in real time. This was hard, and I was trying to put it back together with a 2nd party that was not looking out for my best interest. While I was waiting for the Finance Manager and contract to be drafted. In the spirit of saving time, I went and asked that the unit be parked next to my old unit so I can start to transfer my belongings. This would be when I 1st notice the scratches. When I brought it up to the 2nd Salespersons, he said that this was how the unit was. I got to the signing table with the Finance Manager. To find out 1. They would only give me $11,250 for a Trade I was looking to get a minimum of $12K for. 2. No discount on the Warranty. 3. An added $899 Pre-Delivery fee. 4. (The dagger) A rate of 8.24%. When I asked to be sent to FMC, F/M went and got the Manager. They said the difference was only about $30-$40 dollars and that I could refinance in 3-4. The F/M agreed to cut me a check once I refinanced so I could sign and move forward. He also mentioned that the Manager knew of a body that I could get the bumper scratches repaired. Not at all what I thought I was getting myself into heading down that day. Needless to say, I signed. Rushing to get back to Tampa to start my shift. Grabbed the keys and paperwork and headed out. Jumped in the Camry not even remembering how to even get back to Tampa. And to add insult to injury, I found out this weekend that in Tampa, there’s multiple new 2021 Camrys for thousands less. So, in short. This was absolute most horrendous buying situation of my life. And having the time and thinking about what transpired, I've lost much confidence and respect for Ford Dealerships and Ford (The *Brand* indirectly). My hope is that this would shine a light on a bad overall situation where more should’ve been done to make right of a big wrong.

Why not buy 2 used cars in the same month from Mathews-Currie?

by Beth on 03/29/2022

We were looking for 2 very different used autos. We found "similar" options at other dealers within 150 miles of our home. We drove 10 miles to Mathews-Currie Ford and found a Toyota 4Runner and a Tesla, right price, great $ for our trade in's along with a great sales team willing to make our deal as sweet as it can get and yet keep Mathews-Ford in business. Mario in sales and Chris in finance made the entire process so easy and straight forward. We couldn't be happier.

First time buyer

by Take a friend on 12/19/2020

I thought I was pretty prepared and did my research but it took 5 hours to buy a car . Going over features and two test drives ... I was happy with what I picked . Felt the process was confusing at times . I got a lot of information out of the salesman and he went over the cars features quite well . I got talked into a very expensive package for extended warranty .? learning the hard way.

Exceptional customer service

by Joe N on 05/07/2020

Best dealership experience to date! Started with John greeting us at the door, mind you he wasn't even our sales person. He put the keys to the car we was looking at in our hand, and told us to go drive it until Edgar (our salesman) showed up. From that moment until driving off the lot this dealership did not disappoint. Edgar was our salesman he made the transaction simple, we always do our homework and are prepared and he respected that. From there to the finance office, the top notch customer service continued. From the arrival at the dealership, till the transaction was complete we were treated like a valued customer. The entire process only took about 2.5 hours, we are the proud owners of a Ruby red 2019 Mustang GT Convertible. Kind regards Joe & Beth
