Matthews-Currie Ford
Dealership Service Review
I've been doing business with MC Ford since 2006 and have purchased cars, trucks and vans for both personal and business. I'm a believer that service sells, however last Thursday this turned out to be truer than I thought. A family member had a 2016 Escape in for a check engine light, miss fire on an ecoboost cylinder. Pulled the plug, checked the cylinder for liquid and believed they found coolant because the overflow tank was empty. She was told she could put a new engine in the car or pay 278.00 for the diagnosis and leave with the car. The vehicle drove fine going in and would have driven fine leaving, affording her to think over her choices. NO! "...if you buy a new car you won't be charged the fee...". The SERVICE ADVISER WALKED HER OVER TO A SALESMAN and before I could get there to put 2 and 2 together they had a buyers order completed, less than 45 minutes. She got 500.00 for a trade in(230 if you add in the diagnosis. The service advisor told me on the phone that it's just a "tired ecoboost". I've had 3 ecoboost all over 200,000 miles. What happened to a new head with a gasket set, are all engines disposable, this wasn't provided as an option. 500.00 for the Escape in Trade! I could have parted that unit out for 3000.00. I'm willing to bet MC or a wholesaler is going to fix the head and gasket then sell the vehicle for 5k or so. She speaks English but has little understanding of English, and was not afforded any other choice or option just walked directly from Service to Sales. Illegal? No. Questionable behavior by a dealer that has shown tremendous growth since 2006, YES. Don't trust their service tactics and don't trust an ecoboost engine obviously, as they get "tired".
