Simple, efficient, no-hassle car buying

I exchanged a few emails with Benjamin Tait (salesman), and we put together a list of cars/options I was interested in. I visited the dealership a few days later, and got the exact car I wanted, at a price within my budget. It was a very straightforward transaction, and Benjamin was very professional. It was a pleasure to business not only with him, but Mercedes-Benz of Portland.

Poor Quality, Poor Service

I purchased a 2006 CLK350 in Feb 2014. Dealer maintained since new. This car has the M272, V6 engine. At the time of purchase, I did not know these engines are known for having bad balance shafts (2006 thru 2009, V6 - M272 & V8 - M273 engines are affected). Mine went bad after 6K miles (80K miles on the car). Mercedes of Portland should have checked this car before they sold it to me. Their web site says "...we make every effort to ensure each used Mercedes-Benz we offer is spotless and reliable". Apparently they don't do this & the repairs cost $6000 dollars. I tried to contact Mercedes of Portland to get this fixed but I'm only hearing crickets. This will be the last Benz I buy.

I worked with Bruce S. who I highly recommend. He is very knowledgeable and does not play games. I told him what I wanted and what I could afford and he helped me find the perfect vehicle. The sales manager is also very professional and ready and willing to assist with your vehicle purchase. All and all, a very positive experience.

Avoid salesman Mark T. - everyone else is fantastic

The best measure of a business is how they handle mistakes and problems. I ordered and placed a $1,000 down payment on a 2014 Smart Cabriolet in Feb 2014. My salesman, Mark T., told me it would be delivered between late-April and mid-May, which was fine by me...who needs a convertible in Portland until May? In April, he told me it would be arriving in the port of LA on 16 May. I thanked him for his update and told him that I wanted to insure that, during dealer prep, a license plate holder was not screwed into the front plastic of the car as I intended to install a special mounting bracket myself. He assured me they 'never install front plate holders without customer request'. Memorial day came and went. No car. Impatient, I ask for an update. Mark responded with (and I should note, he -- like almost everyone under the age of 50 -- only writes texts from his phone.) 'since it is a 2015 it is not released yet. I'll let you know when they ship it north. If you are not satisfied you will get a full refund.' Angry at being treated this way, I complain to the General Manager. He immediately rectified the situation by giving me a free Smart Cabriolet loaner 'until my car arrives'. I drove that free (all I had to do was put gas in it) loaner for six weeks! When my car arrived the only thing wrong was a front plate holder had been installed with four screws. They are going to fix this mistake by swapping the front body panel from another car in their inventory while I get a free loner. All the people I worked with at Mercedes Benz of Portland, Smart Center of Portland, who were professional and wonderful and fantastic are: Andrew P. (GM), Dale A., Crystal B., Ben T., and Mylee B. Avoid Mark T.

2013 Smart Fortwo Passion Cabriolet

Bruce S. sold me a 2013 Smart Fortwo Passion Cabriolet and I couldn't be happier with the car, his service or the dealership as a whole. From start to finish, I did not feel pressured, but rather I felt I was educated and encouraged to ask questions until I felt confident in my decision. Even from first phone contact I was sent a detailed package of information on the Smart car choices as for models and the current leasing/financing options. Bruce also took the time to walk me through the package before I ever stepped foot into the dealership. I went in with the intent of leasing a vehicle and instead decided to purchase it because of the great price, quality service, the safety standards of the smart car and all of the special smart car perks. I never would have committed to buying this a vehicle without being 100% satisfied with the way I was treated. I wouldn't have chosen to go into debt if I didn't believe in the Smart Fortwo, Bruce and the dealership. I got a quality car, quality service/ guidance (note: I do not say salesman) and a quality dealership. I have never been more content or satisfied with a vehicle purchase. Bruce did right by me and I know he will do his best for you too so if you're looking, he's ready to listen and help you make a SMART decision. :) Sincerely, Candace

Couldn't get a quote on a E350

I started out trying to get a quote at this dealership and they seemed interested at first. Not putting anything in writing but wanting me to come in to look at what they had in stock. Then I went to the Beaverton dealer trying to get a quote there and the Portland dealer wouldn't talk to me anymore. I went back and forth for a while and then found out they are the same ownership. No wonder! When I finally got Beaverton to quote me something, they just copied the figures off of the window sticker and handed it to me. I went to a local Cadillac dealer and they sold me a beautiful XTS for almost $5,000 less. I love this car, should have looked at it before.

Excellent Experience!

This was our first Mercedes purchase and we went to the dealership because it had been rated well on various social media websites. Having driven non-luxury cars till now, we were a little intimidated at the swanky showroom. Jeffery G. put us at ease, showed us the various cars that we could buy and took care to explain with great effort, the pros and cons of each car. After we had decided on our car, we explained to him that the vehicle was marked up by 10% as compared to the KBB value and he immediately reduced the price to the KBB value. No haggling, whatsoever. He was very warm and we walked out satisfied within 2 hours having all the paperwork done and the new car keys in our hand! I highly recommend this dealership if you want a new/used car!

I would like to thank Pierre M for helping us with the purchase of our new 2014 C300. This is our first Mercedes for us and Pierre helped us understand all the different models and options before letting us choose the Mercedes that fit us. Leasing a car

Kenny was very patient, helpful and knowledgeable . It is the first time we have leased a car. Kenny was very patient with us and explained all the details about the car we are leasing and about the process of leasing a car. When I was test driving the car, Kenny was very patient with me, gave clear instructions, and answered all my questions. I will definitely ask for Kenny each time I go back to this dealership.

From Seattle to Portland

I live in Seattle. We have four dealerships here. Two in proper Seattle, one in Bellevue (just across Lake Washington) and one in Fife (by Tacoma). I dealt with all four plus the one in Portland. Surprisingly I bought my car in the farthest away from home, in Portland. The reason is very simple: Dale A. I never met him in person, did all my dealing with him over the Internet. Never spoke to him on the phone, as I wanted everything we dealt with to be documented in writing. He was by far the most knowledgeable of all the other dealers, the most creative and of course very courteous. He used to own 7 Mercedes cars himself and knows the car very well. He has ideas that nobody else had and is very friendly and reliable. I would recommend him to anybody interested in a good deal and very special treatment at Mercedes. I already ordered my next 2014 S-Class from him also.

A sales person who is an effective client embassador

Richard our sales person was great to deal with as he struck a good balance on customer and dealership needs. He successfully not only offered a fair price for a new SUV but also found solutions to add extra nice things which were important to us while navigating though the dealership's divide between sales and service. As a result, a great experience all around and a testamonial why we already bought three cars there. Last but not least, Richard's way of addressing our questions and concerns showed what a great person he is - funny, courteous and knowledgeable. We definately would buy again from him.
