onWe dropped off car night before, wife was going to take me to work and pick me up later. We planned a nice diner breakfast on way to work. Dealership called us before we left the house to say the car was finished ! Before promised but I missed our nice breakfast we planned. GREAT JOB !

Unethical, Unprofessional Sales Manager

onIs it common practice for the Sales Manager to sell a vehicle out from under the customer who is in negotiations with the Salesman and has put a deposit down on that vehicle? I had an appointment to see and test drive this vehicle (which we did) this evening. The Salesman (John D.) was extremely professional, we discussed price, put down a deposit and another Salesman ran into the office we were in, grabbed the key (without John D's knowledge) and another customer took the same vehicle for a test ride while we signing off on the contract. I attempted to speak to the Sales Manager so he could explain to me what was going on and I had to wait for him to finish sealing the deal with the other customer....needless to say, we lost the truck. The Sales Manager is unethical and extremely unprofessional which affects Hawthorne Chevrolet's customers and salesman alike. My advice to the owner, you need to get a new Sales Manager, someone professional.

Fraud and lies - shameful

onDealership Fraud - pulling a credit report against your expressed wishes and instructions is a Fraudulent Act, says Credit consumer monitoring service. Finance manager Vazquer made Fraudulent Misrepresentation when he lied with the intent to deceive me with the knowledge that incomplete paperwork he insisted I sign, was sourced from The Bank of America. It turned out to indeed be untrue. This demonstrates Reckless Disregard as Vazquer knew his statement was false. Unauthorized Inquiry of my Credit Report was initiated against my stated wishes to both salesperson Michael Keane and the Finance Manager Victor Vazquer, and made on several occasions. Vazquer lied that an incomplete form he gave me to sign at the end of the purchase was from Bank of America. The Bank says nonsense, Vazquer had presented an incomplete Dealership form he should not have. Bank of America says dealership did not follow their procedures for an auto loan they had approved in advance for a fixed amount at a low interest rate. Vazquer also lied that my pre-approved finance rate from The Bank of America had been changed (increased) because of the choice of car and time lapse from my loan approval. Bank say absolutely not true as they had given the Dealership clear finance approval in advance of the sale being completed. When challenged Vazquer then changed the interest rate to what had been pre-approved by the Bank of America. Dealership President Steve Barna lied, and said they did not pull my credit, it was the Bank of America. TransUnion have since provided a copy of a Hard credit pull initiated by Hawthorne Chevy on the day of the sale.. Salesperson Mike Keane was terrific; a good honest guy but their management are not trustworthy. Keane said later the day after the sale was completed, Vazquer should not, rpt not, have made a Hard credit pull as he knew that was against my wishes and instructions. Shocking and disgraceful. So much for Hawthorne Chevrolet customer relationship reputation - what are they thinking? Shameful performance from a large New Jersey Chevrolet dealership, with Finance Manager and the Dealership President lying to a customer.

onBuying or leasing a car can be a stressful experience for consumers. And I feel it is my duty as a consumer to warn others when I have had a horrific experience or whenever I encounter [non-permissible content removed]. I hope this review helps you make a better purchasing decision, because we all work hard for our money, and I would not want you to fall into the same trap I did when I tried to lease a car at Hawthorne Chevrolet in New Jersey. I can assure you, this is not a place to negotiate if you are looking for an honest salesmen who offers and sticks to a fair price. (see below) I spent 2 weeks working on a deal with Gary Monnecka. Each day we spoke and each day he forget what we agreed to on the previous day. It's as if he had amnesia from one day to the next, as he attempted to change his offer throughout the entire process. The day finally arrived where I supplied Gary with all the necessary paperwork. Gary processed and vetted all the paperwork, got his affairs in order and then submitted to me in writing an approved deal that I felt was fair. I was then instructed to provide a deposit and to call my insurance company. I gave Gary the deposit to hold the cars and provided the insurance ID card and binder. The only task left to do was to sign paperwork and pick up both cars. BUT then, Gary started making accusations, that I misunderstood the deal, that he couldn't apply some of the discounts he had promised. He began to play games after he had taken a deposit and told me the deal and all the paperwork was approved. He began his scam by raising one of the lease prices, justifying his decision with reasons we never agreed to and reasons that were never disclosed to me. I then spoke with Jeffrey Mays who is the general manager, pleaded my case and was told to be patient while he reviewed the information from Gary that I provided to Jeffrey in writing. Seven hours later, and only after I reached out via email, I received a response from Jeffrey. Jeffrey had decided to increase the price on both leases, again justifying the increase with reasons I had never agreed to. Apparently, to cover his backside, Gary had told his boss lies about what we agreed upon as an approved deal. I suspect Gary approved a deal he was not supposed to offer customers and his boss tried to correct Gary's mistake at my expense. Gary is a shady character and his boss Jeffrey is a disgrace to the profession. Jeffrey should not be a general manager who handles customers and obviously tried to correct a mistake his employee made. To side with an employee over a customer that has written proof of an approved deal, vetted paperwork and whom provided a deposit is absurd. It's not only that they raised the prices after I had an approved deal, put a deposit down, and had my insurance company supply documentation, it's how much of my time they wasted. If they see no value in your time and are willing to string you along for as long as it takes to get what they want, then where is the trust? Even the slightest amount of honesty and trust is vital when conducting business. So again, please heed my warning or else you will lose countless hours being scammed by unprofessional car salesmen.

No follow up

onI was very frustrated by two issues. First, I very clearly explained that I wanted an assist step put on the car that day, however was only informed I would have to come back to have it installed another time. It's an hour or more each way for me. I did not appreciate being miss led. Second, my follow up requests for the step to be shipped to a more convenient dealer for installation there was not addressed. I called and emailed many times, but no one ever followed up.

onA couple weeks ago I was driving my 2007 Corvette on route 287 in North Jersey when one of the many trucks on the road kicked up a stone that cracked the windshield. Within a couple of days Hawthorne Chevrolet got an OEM replacement windshield, scheduled me in, and completed the work within a few hours. They did a really nice job Im very particular with my cars and could not tell anything was done except that the windshield was no longer cracked! onI purchased a Chevy Cobalt from you dealership in 2010 and JR Gray was my salesman. He was wonderful to deal with then so I returned to Hawthorne Chevy and specifically asked for him when I totaled the Cobalt. The man went out of his way to help me meet the price that I could afford for a new vehicle. He was professional, courteous and just a nice man to deal with. I have strongly recommended your dealership to my friends and family and have recommended JR to them. This was a trying time for me and JR made it not so difficult. I can not thank him enough!

The other service representative (who I know from other visits) asked the service representative who was helping me to say hello from him. I thought that was very nice of Mike.
