defective tire on brand new vehicle

by E_Bingham on 07/26/2016

In February, 2016 I purchased a brand new 2016 Toyota Highlander from Teton Toyota. Three months later (May 7, 2016) my husband was traveling down I-15 when the tread on our tire completely separated. The vehicle had just over 9,000 miles. The rear tire well was also damaged as a result of the tire separating. My husband was able to control the vehicle, and get pulled over to put on the spare tire. My husband then took our vehicle to Les Schwab where they indicated that all 4 tires needed to be replaced. Subsequently, the manager at the Les Schwab, the parts manager at Teton Toyota, and 2 individuals from Toyota's corporate office all inspected the tire. Each concluded that they did not see any indication of impact, puncture, or low pressure to indicate why the tire would have separated. However, Toyota indicated that they do not warranty tires, and therefore I was on my own to file a complaint with Bridgestone, and file a claim with my insurance company. I filed a complaint with Bridgestone, and sent the tire to them for inspection. They sent me back a letter indicating that impact occurred while in service that caused the tire to fail. I believe this to be false, and that they do not want to accept liability for a failed tire. In the 1990's Firestone had a manufacturing defect that they refused to accept liability for until the problem became too large, and they could no longer deny it. Unfortunately, many lives were lost as a result. My sister was one of those individuals. I went back to Toyota and asked them to reinspect the tire or contact Bridgestone in my behalf. Once again I was told that they do not warranty tires, and have no responsibility in this situation. I now have $1,400 in new tires, $2,900 in damage to my brand new vehicle, Toyota refuses to do anything to remedy the situation, and Bridgestone will not accept responsibility for a failed tire. I have been a loyal Toyota customer, and in the last 10 years have owned a Sienna, Camry, 2 Tundras, Sequoia, and a Highlander. I will never purchase another Toyota again.

Best service ever

by benY169 on 12/23/2014

Mr. Mario Hernandez, On October 10,2013 I purchased a new 2014 Volkswagen Jetta TDI from your dealership. The salesman Mr. Paul Schiess was very knowledgeable and helpful as was the staff who handled the paperwork. I was left with a positive impression of your company. During the past year I have been similarly impressed with Mr. Tom Warner and his service department. I returned to Teton Volkswagen recently on Sept 19th for service on my V.W. and while there I visited with Paul Schiess and expressed an interest of possibly purchasing another vehicle for my spouse. Mr. Scheiss walked me next door to Teton Toyota and introduced me to Monty Davis who proceeded to sell me a Toyota F.J. Cruiser. As with Mr. Shciess ,Mr. Davis was knowledgeable & helpful. The paperwork, extended warranty, ect. was efficiently handled by Mr. Rudy Lopez and Mike Welker. I have always believed in complaining in writing when I have had an unsatisfactory sales/service experience and thus feel a concomitant obligation to write when I have had a positive experience hence this memorandum to document my complete satisfaction with Teton Volkswagen and Teton Toyota dealerships. I wish to commend you for running such a good company with a friendly & competent staff. I took with me business cards from both Monty Davis and Paul Schiess & I will gladly hand them out here in Montana to friends & acquaintances who are interested in purchasing either Volkswagen or Toyota Products! Worst Customer Service

by smokeesteve on 07/31/2013

I had been searching for a specific Toyota Prius for a few months before finding a pre owned one at Teton Toyota. It had met all my requirements I was looking for in a prius. At first I was sticker shocked because of the price they were asking, at the time it was 5 years old and had around 72,000 miles on it and they were asking 18,000 for it. I soon found that all of their cars are extremely marked up compared to others models and dealers. I managed to find an appropriate price and even bought some additional insurance with some good financing. I know I gave them pretty good margin on the car, I am in retail myself and I like to support local businesses so I expected a little service if something had gone unexpectedly wrong. That night when I drove the car home I noticed that the gas gauge was reading empty, I first thought that they gave me a car that had no gas in it, but soon to find out that the gauge needed to be reset. Then I find out that the gas sensor was broken and wouldn't let me fill up the car all the way. They wouldn't fix it, as a result of the two problems I have run out of gas twice! Both on the freeway, one of which was during a snow storm. The next problem was the 12 volt battery (not the hybrid battery) which had a "bad cell" I have only had the car for a few months before that went bad so they should have caught that when they inspected it before selling it, that is, if they do proper inspections. I come to find that this would be a $382 repair so I took it down the street to a friends auto body repair facility and he did it for nearly half the cost. Then driving the car; it makes the most terrible wind noise that I have to raise my voice almost to a yell to talk to somebody in the back at high speeds it almost seems like the car had been in a wreck prior to my purchase. Then I took it to get a tire rotation and my camber was WAY off, the inside of the new tires were bald! Why they couldn't align them before they sold it was beyond me. Then came the biggest problem of them all, the headlights. I can deal with a dead battery, poor alignment, a faulty gas gauge and a lot of road noise but when the head lights spontaneously turn off at night, I get a little upset. My wife primarily drives this car and we just had a baby, but I hardly feel comfortable with them driving this death trap! I have expressed my concerns with them a number of times and I have left my number several times, I have not received a call for anything except to sell me another car! I got fed up with the run around and asked to speak with the manager to see what he was going to do about this and he said he could give me 10% off my $450 repair bill to replace the headlight bulbs. I finally threw in the towel and bought the bulbs online for a FRACTION of the outrageous price they offered them to me for. they wanted $150 per bulb, I found them $68 for the pair! I love Toyota's, in my opinion they are some of the best made cars made and I do really like the prius, but when combined with a crappy dealership who just what to nickel and dime you and don't sell cars that have been properly checked and/or repaired, it makes for one really bad buying experience. And to Teton Toyota, I will never be a customer of yours again and I would encourage others to shop for your next new or used car purchase elsewhere.

"NO PROBLEM"

by carscars3 on 07/02/2008

It was a very easy to purchase a car from this dealer. Other places I went wanted me to dance to the same old song and dance that dealers have done for years. When I went into Teton Toyota the staff was professonal and did whatever I asked. I had my guard up when I went in so it was a breath of fresh air to know they would do what I wanted to do. After we agreed on a price for the car it was time to do the paperwork. We had done research on the products dealers offer you in the back and knew we did not need GAP insurance or a warranty. We told the finance guy right off the bat that we did not need to purchase a warranty. He then assured us that was no problem. This was the first time in 10 new auto purchases that we didn't feel pushed into buying one. He did still go over the coverages available to us and even recommended not purchasing products we didn't need such as GAP because we were putting a good amount of money down. The warranty coverage he went over was good coverage so we asked the price. The price was very reasonable and it made sense so for the first time we purchased the extended warranty. We could not be happier with the overall experience from start to finish. Three days later our salesman called just to make sure everything was going good. Again that was the first time anyone had done that for us. This dealer is a breath of fresh air in an industry with a bad rep. I will never try to buy a car at another dealer. EVER!

Fun, but agressive - read Edmunds advice on car buying

by researchpro on 05/18/2008

If you read the article on buying a car on this site, there will be no surprises. The dealership is friendly, but its a hard sell lot. The prices are fair, not a bargain. Do you homework, come with your own financing. Once you've decided on a car, stay focused,. Get them to name a price for the car. They will keep asking you what kind of payment you can afford..and will drag out the years you pay in order to bring the monthly payment down. Your payment is not the issue at this point. The price of the car is. They'll ask you to value trade in. First get them to write down the price of the car you want to buy on a piece of paper that you retain. othewise they will add this and that and the price will be higher. Ask what the sales tax will be. Ask for a free 30 day warranty. Once you have those two things, then go to the trade in value of your car, know what its worth, come with a clean car detailed car and don't back down. They were friendly but manipulative and they keep walking away and making deals and it drags on and is intended to be confusing. This is standard dealership stuff. If you are prepared with your own numbers, hold to your prices, and are prepared to walk - you'll do fine.
