Be wary of long distance purchases!

by Greg Guyette on 12/09/2022

I am having a most unpleasant experience with Beaver Toyota. I recently purchased a 2019 BMW 430i Convertible through a long distance sale. I live in St. Petersburg, Florida. The car was described as being in exceptional condition. It was disclosed that there had been a very minor paint repair on the front of the car, but that it was a clean-titled vehicle. The car was delivered to my home around 8PM approximately two weeks ago and it was beautiful. The condition appeared pristine, it has low miles and is a blast to drive. When I washed the car for the first time and was toweling it off on a bright day, I discovered a large (softball-sized) area on the passenger side door, blending into the quarter panel which had clearly been repaired (poorly) with body filler. It was bumpy, and the paint had an orange peel texture. I brought it to the attention of my sales representative (Nick) who has been exceptional to work with. Nick assured me that the management team takes seriously customers' satisfaction and he was clearly bothered that the car had been misrepresented, whether intentional or through an oversight. Given that this is a $40,000 used car that has substantial (and poorly executed) body work, it is clearly worth far less than I paid, and and as a "car guy", I would not have purchased a car in this condition and have no interest in owning it now. When John Lane, a member of the management team finally called me on 12/7 (nine days after I reported the damage), he said that he was certain the car did not have body damage or repair in that location when it left their facility. I asked if he was implying that I had damaged and attempted to fix it, he said he wasn't implying anything specific, but that the damage had occurred after it left their facility. I have asked for the photos that he assured me would make clear that the damage and repair happened while the car was in my possession, but so far he has not produced them. So, indirectly, I have been accused of dishonesty, attempting to fraud the dealership and that I was to blame for this situation. John Lane said I could return the car for a credit toward another vehicle, but of course they do not have another BMW 430 convertible, which I was specifically seeking, so it is a worthless gesture to me. I will be pursuing resolution through legal avenues, but this will be expensive and time consuming. I am very disappointing that Beaver Toyota chose to put profit above integrity, and that their pledges of customer satisfaction are empty marketing ploys. It is more disappointing that John Lane never considered the possibility that Beaver Toyota's inspection team missed the damage due to factors such as lighting in their inspection facility, or perhaps it was a busy day and they were pushing too many cars through. John made clear (he said this) - there are only two possibilities, "that one of us was being dishonest" and he assured me that it wasn't him or Beaver Toyota. PLEASE do not consider a long-distance transaction with Beaver Toyota of Cumming! It is possible that my situation is unique, but Beaver Toyota's lack of integrity should trouble any prospective buyer... you have many options when buying a car long-distance, don't make the mistake that I made. Please also share this with friends, family and coworkers and please feel free to contact me if you have any questions about my experience - guyette.greg@gmail.com.

They didn't "wow" me

by Tonya on 10/18/2018

Purchased a used car and paid cash. Two weeks later, we are left in the middle of an intersection because the right axel broke. It was a Honda Accord with 88k miles. Beaver agreed to fix it (understandably they didn’t have to) but let’s be honest, it’s the right thing to do and I am grateful. I spoke with a manager about trading it back to them and purchasing a 2017 that’s certified just so we would have that peace of mind. I was offered a trade in value a thousand less than I purchased it from them for just 2 weeks ago and no wiggle in price to help with the dealer fees and taxes paid again, just two weeks ago. Making it a $3k loss in just 2 weeks. I was willing to continue doing business with Beaver and was basically turned away. I was “Wow’d” alright. When I picked the Honda up from the service department it was filthy. Grease stain on my headliner and boot prints on my door.
