Careful of skeezy sales tactics

by Jeffro on 07/15/2021

We tried to purchase a vehicle from Nissan of Fresno and we were all ready to head down there for purchase. We asked out the door price over the phone and they had tacked on 20% for LoJack and some window treatment, which we did not ask for nor did we want. So obviously we were not able to purchase our vehicle here. I was extremely disappointed in their team and tactics.

Don't buy from them

by Rj209 on 11/04/2020

traded in a vehicle to them and it took them over a month to pay off my previous loan. I had to pay an additional month for a vehicle I didn't have any more and when I called them about it the manager Victor gave me attitude and hung up on me. Don't buy from them

Buyer Beware

by CoopaLoop on 02/24/2018

The likely hood of having a good experience at a car dealership is low, in the case of Lithia in Fresno Ca I had the worst experience of my life. I purchased a vehicle in November and still today, nearly 3 months later my bad experience is more like a reoccurring nightmare. Unlike Lithia I did keep my promise and the result is this review. Before taking on this review I gave Lithia the opportunity to make it right. They decided not to. The tactics of Lithia are typical of bad car dealers and take the likes of drug dealers selling to innocent and unsuspecting children. Lies, deceit, and intimidation are the culture which I experienced from the top down. The experience started off with what was a great sales rep who was engaging, cleaver and fun to be around. After looking at several vehicles and going for a test drive the sales rep was able to convince us that we should speak to someone about pricing. Now we were very clear that we were not ready to buy today and that there were other models form competitors that we would be test driving before making our final decision. On the agreement that it would only be 10 minutes to discuss pricing we hesitantly entered the dreaded sales office. I should have known better than to believe that this discussion would only take 10 minutes but this was their first successful trick. We ultimately spent almost two hours while different managers came in with high pressure tactics trying to close the deal. Now I’m sure you are thinking why did we spend this much time there? The large male managers who came in one by one would stand between us and the door creating an intimidating situation for myself and my pregnant spouse. As the time went on and the managers were changed out, in an attempt to wear us down, the deal presented did get better than I expected. But like I said earlier there were similar model vehicles from competitors that we, as a newly expecting family, wanted to experience and test drive before making this important and expensive long-term decision. We ultimately left the Lithia dealership without making a purchase that day but with a price we thought was a good deal. Over the next couple of weeks, we made it to the competitors we wanted to test and even a competitor of the same brand. The best deal pitched to us was from Lithia, we also liked this particular vehicle, so we ultimately decided to return and make our purchase here. This is where I should have walked out on the deal. The tactics of deceit began almost immediately. We were now renegotiating the same deal we thought we agreed upon two weeks earlier. Keep in mind we made our return within the same month and the same incentives were going on. They again began trading sales managers in and out of the office we were put into, often standing between us and the door where they would continue to lie through their teeth about what they promised on our last visit. Ultimately, they refused to make the same as their previous deal. With another Saturday of my life wasted in a Lithia dealership cube We conceded and took what was the same deal we would have received at their competitor. Now that my hunger from the hours of negotiations was setting in I was relieved to see the end of this insanity in sight and hopefully a meal soon. This is where we experienced yet another level of unprofessionalism and unbelievable lack in job and people skills. The finance manager had to reprint the contract and other miscellaneous paperwork for various errors three times. This entire process took another couple of hours where we signed and resigned paperwork, which we learned several months later was still incorrect. The level of disrespect from the sales manager was like nothing I have ever experienced. While misspelling our name and making other errors in the paperwork he told us about all the women he knows from the local bar and around town. He told us a particularly unprofessional story about his time out the previous night. Maybe this is why he cannot get the paperwork right I thought. The water bottle, which we had to purchase, was empty after this long day and we asked him to throw it away, but to our surprise he refused and sent us across the sales floor to find a trash can in someone else’s office. Now that the sun is down and my Saturday is gone we finally leave the dealership in our new vehicle. But this is not the end of nightmare, only the beginning. We forgot something in the lease vehicle we turned in that day, likely due to the exhaustion and frustration from that long and tumultuous day. I lost count of the number of calls we made to the dealership trying to talk to someone that could help us retrieve the important item left behind. There was voicemail after voicemail left and promise after promise that someone would call back. They never did call us back. This made it clear where we stand now that the deal was closed and we were no longer buying customers. We had to drive back to the dealership where we did retrieve what we left behind. Fast forward two months later and my phone rings from Lithia. The paperwork we had reprinted three times and signed over and over again after an entire day rehashing a deal promised that was only a lie, was again not done correctly. Now I was in no hurry to return to the dealership for a fourth time, especially due to treatment we received there in the past so I let this linger for a week. At this point they started sending large men to my door demanding from a pregnant woman that she calls me at work and we immediately return to the dealership to resign paperwork. We probably should have called the police, but I returned to the negotiation table instead. I had to ask that they stop sending people to my home first. I also needed something in return for all of the trouble and my lost Saturdays. Lithia offered to fill my gas tank, which I kindly refused. We discussed other options and ended on having the windows tinted in exchange for our return to the dealership to again sign paperwork. We returned to the dealership to find a new finance manager who helped us resign the exact same documents we signed three times before. He also provided us with a contract to have the windows tinted and promised to correct the errors from our lease vehicle we returned months earlier. You see we did not receive the incentives we earned by remaining brand loyal due to the first paperwork not being valid. Now that several months had passed it looked like we were no longer eligible for the loyalty incentives but Lithia was going to get this corrected. They never did get this corrected as promised and we were again left to fend for ourselves and contact NMAC for a resolution. After several weeks of waiting for the call from the service department on the window tinting we realized that we were again going to have to do this ourselves. So we made the call and talked to several people before they were able to retrieve the contract to tint the vehicle windows. The promise made by Lithia was that we could pick any tint we desired and have it installed at no cost to ourselves. This again was a lie. I have a copy of the contract from the finance manager and a copy of the tint we selected from the service department but Lithia will not honor either of them. I called and emailed the finance manager again but he also refused and denied telling me what he promised in his office only a couple of weeks earlier. Instead we were offered to pay

Great Customer Service

by Sallyg23 on 02/20/2017

Jimmy of LITHIA Nissan had the greatest customer service. I went there not knowing what I wanted. I test drove about five cars asked a ton of questions. I wasn't planning to buy a car that day, but Jimmy and Roberto magically made it happen. I didn't feel pressured at all. Jimmy was knowledgeable of all the vehicles I drove. I would by again from them.

UNPROFESSIONAL AND DECEPTIVE SALES STAFF AT LITHIA NISSAN OF FRESNO

by Trav1865 on 08/14/2016

On August 13th, my husband and I went to the dealership to purchase a used van. Before seeing the van on the lot, we talked with the sales staff by phone about the amenities and purchase price. We had a verbal understanding by phone that we would purchase the van for the telephone agreed price and made an appointment for the next morning to see and drive it. The sales staff was asked by us again that we were agreed about the selling price before starting the paperwork for the purchase and registration. We were not financing the car but was asked far too much personal information than was not necessary for a cash purchase. Then, the salesman came back into the office with an offer to purchase an expensive lifetime oil change warranty which we declined to him 3 times. Now, we have invested 2 ½ hours of our morning and ready to complete the purchase when a different sales person came into the office and told us we needed to pay an additional $1000.00 to purchase the van, although we had asked several times throughout the process that we were all agreed on the price. At this point we were so frustrated with the whole drawn out procedure, the rudeness and insult to us, that we told them they were very unprofessional and offensive to our intelligence and we left the building. We will never deal with Lithia Nissan of Fresno again!

Love my Rogue

by Melgara2 on 10/30/2015

I love my new car and my salesman, Danny Martinez, was awesome. What I did not care for was the game playing by the sales manager. Making me wait for over an hour just to give me the deal I originally asked for was a little obnoxious. Martha, in the finance department, was fantastic to work with!

Great Dealer response

by oxman3 on 01/08/2014

I live a good distance away & did not want to make multiple trips down the mountain. I emailed the General Manager exactly what I wanted to do & he hooked me up with Naween R. They did not even call me until I gave them permission. I told him I was not coming in until we had a done deal & all I wanted to do was drive in, sign the papers & leave. It was an incredible good experience. Naween gave me the exact deal I wanted & was so nice &j pleasant. How many salesmen give you their home phone numbers? I cannot say enough good things about this dealership. I have now purchased my last three new vehicles from Lithia.

Do you research and know your spending limit!

by shanethegeek on 01/18/2013

I have read prior reviews and to be frank they just are not fair to the guys at Lithia Nissan-Hyundai. I have purchased two cars from Lithia Hyundai, 1 new 2010 Hyundai Genesis and 1 2011 Used Hyundai Sonata. Some Pros! This dealer has been in business for 50+ years, they can get you interest rates and loan amount approvals that other dealers cant touch. If you see that car of your dreams and can afford the monthly payment. Chances are you can own that car the same day! My first experience is when I went in with my friend to look at the new Genesis Coupe that he fell in love with (current car was nice but very vintage, lots of breakdowns). We test drove the car and he was hooked. He had a stable job but the credit just wasn't there. Long story short, to help get my friend in the car Al G. (our sales guy) sold it to him for invoice price, I was able to cosign on the loan. He got the car of his dreams that day for $440 per month. Two years later sans and issue with the steering wheel leather peeling (covered by warranty) he is happy as a clam. There was no pressure and all the terms were clearly laid out and explained. My second experience was just recently. I got a call explaining that they were wanting "A" grade used cars and were paying top dollar. I took my 2008 Elantra (not purchased from Lithia) in and within an hour they came back with a top dollar trade in value of $7700 dollars. The $7700 covered the remainder of my loan. I was then able to turn around and get a 2011 Sonata at book price (normally unheard of at dealerships) with a lower interest rate than I was expecting. So for 90 dollars more per month I went from a 2008 Elantra ($267/Month) to a 2011 Sonata ($358/Month) with no money down at signing. As a side note I did not like the road noise or response of the tires on the car (Kumoh Solus) I asked as part of deal to get 4 (way more expensive) BF Goodrich Integrity tires installed, which they agreed to at no extra charge, plus any accessories for my Sonata at the dealer cost! Now for a con! One sales gimmick that I despise is a follows. They ask to a monthly payment and say, "If we can get you a payment around this amount will you be able to sign today?" I hate this because you have to say yes or you don't see any numbers. Also, they wont do anything until you answer. Come on stop with the mind games and just go run the numbers! I despise this because it allows for them to prematurely jack the interest rate and hike up the months to compensate. Alas its a double edge sword, they can get approval for larger loan amounts than you can get pre-approval for at your local bank or credit unions. Nice little deal lenders and car dealers have with each other. A nice trick is to give them a super low ball monthly payment, when they come back say its too high, still high can you go lower and then the third one should be the lowest they will go. If you dont like to haggle go to Carmax, their cars are set below book prices and several payment interest options are laid out on the computer, less gimmicks but normally rates run much higher and its harder to get approval for higher amounts. From what I have seen personally. Overall Lithia is very fair when it comes to trade ins and sales of new and used cars. The sales staff are always very freindly. Do they use the sneaky standard sales tactics? Yes, but only to a point. Do they make you haggle to get the best rate and deal? Yes, but only to a point and not as bad as other dealerships. When all is said and done you sign the paperwork. No one else. Figure out what you can comfortably afford to pay per month. Check with a local credit union first to see what you can get pre-approved for. You may get approved for enough to get the car you want! When buying used I always make sure the car meets these two criteria. 1. 2 years old or less. 2. 40,000 miles or less. If you follow the above critera and can find a car that fits your lifestyle while being able to buy it at used book price with an affordable monthly payment and rate. Then you have hit a home run. I hope this helps someone who may be looking for a car and have no clue or even some clue. Either way happy car hunting!

Very bad experience with these [violative content deleted]

by rogue_owner on 05/16/2011

The salesman I met with was nice, but he had a “manager” who ran all the numbers and answered all the questions I had. My salesman acted like he was new and had to consult this guy for information he didn’t know. But, after visiting a lot of dealerships looking for my new car, I think this is a tactic they use to play good cop/bad cop. I left there feeling like I had been beat up. The high pressure from the “manager” was unbelievable. He acted like I was making him mad. He made me feel about two feet tall and that I had done something wrong by not buying the car he was pushing. He tried over and over to sell me a car I didn’t want. Had he actually LISTENED to what I wanted, he might have sold me a car. He was more interested in selling the one(s) he wanted to get rid of. Needless to say, I bought a car four days later from another dealership. This man was nothing short of [violative content deleted]!

Pressure tactics/Poor Customer Service

by xpo141 on 02/19/2011

I purchased my first vehicle from this dealership in 2006. I still have ill feelings from the experience. The sales manager, sold me a 2006 Altima with the typical pressure tactics. He would lower the price per month making it seem like he was lowering the price of the vehicle. In reality, he was just extending the financing terms. It being my first purchase and not having done my research, I was oblivious to the tactic. I ended up purchasing the vehicle. Two weeks into the purchase, the vehicle started making a knocking sound. My dad suggested that I check the oil levels. I felt that since the car was brand new, that the oil levels could not possibly be the problem but decided to investigate. There was no oil reading! I had the vehicle towed to the dealership. They examined the car and stated that the vehicle was low but it was common. They refilled the oil levels. At that time, I voiced my concern that the engine could have been damaged by the low oil level and that I did not want the car any more. They said that if the vehicle was defective that they would exchange the vehicle. I decided to take the car and two weeks later it had no oil again. I took it in and said that I wanted a new car. They flat refused! They stated that they were not in the business of returning cars. They offered me to trade in the car and purchase a new one. They stated that my car payment would only increase by $75 per month! I was flabbergasted! I said I would just leave the car there and walk away. They countered, to go ahead because I would just ruin my credit (my dad's credit included since he had co-signed). I left the dealership, file a complaint with corporate, BBB, and started to get more informed with my options. A whole year passed of adding a quart of oil every two weeks. Finally, the dealership called me back and said great news, we're going to change your engine. I come to find out the car had a recall. I decided to get the engine fixed at different dealership and eventually sold the vehicle. That experience was by far the worst I have gone through at the time and since. I would highly recommend to first do your research before purchasing a vehicle. If not the "car salesman" will definitely prey on your ignorance! Buyer beware!
