Disappearing extra remote Key. Being called a liar

by RemoteCaper on 05/03/2017

I got prequalified by Capital One to buy a 2016 Chrysler 300 c at Camelback Volkswagon, Subaru, Mazada used car lot. On 4/27/2017 drove up to Phoenix from Tucson to try out car. Gave my Capital one quote to the salesman nd walked out the door when they tried to increase the price. Salesman caleed me back into the sales office saying they would take Capital One's offer. I was handed by the salesman a key ring with two sets of remote keys on a ring. Since I never had a push button start and stop button in a car I was thankful that there was two remotes. After agreeing on the pre determined price from Capital One I told them that my wife couldn't come up from Tucson until the next day to finalize the sell. On 4/28/2017 my wife and I went back to sign papers to finalize the sale. Everything was going great and the people involved were very pleasant. We even got a autographed business card from an employee that played baseball in the major league. The original salesman had the car detailed and drove the car to where we were standing by the used car sales office. He left the car running and told us the remote keys were in the console. After we got back at home in Tucson we found out there was only one remote key in the console. I told my wife sense it was late I would call Camelback the next day 4/29/2017. I left two messages about the missing remote key. The salesman called me later saying that there never was two remote car keys and they would not furnish an extra one, and furthermore stated I could buy one cheap on ebay. Now I am almost 60 years old but I not suffering from early dementia and I certainly do not like being called a liar. It is kind of sad that one of Camelback's employees is dishonest. In some groups of people they may call it stealing. It is unfortunate because my wife and I were happy with the car and the price. I wrote a letter to the owner of Camelback Volkswagon, Subaru, and Mazada used cars explaining my experience dealing with this salesman. Because of the disappearing extra remote key and made to feel like a liar, I would not at this recommend buying a car from Camelback. My opinion will change if the owner deals with the disappearing extra remote Key.

Highly recommend!

This was our second time purchasing a car from Camelback Subaru. Tom Darby helped us both times. He is amazing! He's very knowledgeable, friendly, and works really hard to get you a fantastic deal. What an asset to the dealership! We highly recommend Camelback Subaru... Make sure you ask for Tom Darby!

DO NOT GO THERE

by customerh1 on 08/16/2016

Do not go there, they change promise and they do not honor their word and their contract. I went with my family to buy 2017 Subaru which has not come yet. I give them a trade in and we agreed about the trade value ON CONTRACT and they took a deposit. Waited for few weeks for the Subaru to come and when it did. I went to them then he asked me for the trade car key to give it to used car advisor. At this time I know there is something fishy because we agreed already. So they took it and as I expected the manager came back to me with excuse to reduce the value of the trade. I told him this is the same car you saw and DROVE few weeks ago. I told him forget it I am going to another dealer. Think about it if they change word and they play games before we even get the car how about in the future and how about if there is a problem with the car. Dishonesty is what I hate in my life. So DO NOT GO THERE. We waited for them , we wasted our time and at the end they breach the contract that we signed with them. It disappointing when it comes from a manager, people always expect manager to be held accountable for contract and for word.

Bait...and wait? Used Car SCAM - Beware

by temp_edmunds1469584641483 on 07/27/2016

I have been searching for the right car for a while, and finally found what I was looking for on the Camelback Subaru website, Certified Pre-Owned WRX Hatchback. Nice! I called to confirm car was on site, 7/25, evening, and scheduled a test drive. Next day I received 2 more calls from this dealer, confirming that I wanted to go see this car. I said yes again, and verified my test drive window that afternoon. Cutting to the chase, When I arrived a few hours later, I went through all finance paperwork with the rep, all good. Then they test drove my trade in. OK. Then 45 minutes into this, we went out to the lot, and they proceeded to try and sell me a random base impreza, completely like this was ok. The WRX I wanted was gone. It was sold before I even called the first time. So, they said sure, come on down, got to joyride my vehicle, and then informed me that the whole reason I made the trip was an illusion. AS of 7/26, 700pm, this vehicle is still being advertised for sale on there website. This is not a website error, or a timing error, this is a bait and switch scam by an extremely shady dealer. You have been warned.

Chased Away!

by 5murphys on 03/27/2016

We were looking for a car for my daughter. She really liked what she'd read about the Forrester, so we stopped by to see one in person. We didn't even get out of the car when the salesman with the sour face and crossed arms pushed himself away from the wall and rushed over. We thought he was eager to help us. After failing to find a sales rep at three of the other dealerships in their auto row, and getting an obvious push bait at another (That guy was looking at this one too, if you don't buy it NOW, it will be gone. We're a high volume store, if you don't buy today, it will be gone) But NooOOOooo. Mr. Sourpuss wasn't coming over to be helpful. Before we had even stepped out of the car, he demanded "Why are you here?!" Well duh. Why else do people come to a car dealership? But we bit our tongues and minded our manners, and started to tell him what we were looking for. Before we could finish the sentence " She's looking at the...." when Mr. Dour interrupted. "You don't need to be here!" he spat. So we left. The Scottsdale auto row seems overpriced in general, and we failed to find any salesmen with common courtesy. We will continue looking somewhere outside of Scottsdale, where people are more invested in their jobs.

Overpriced. Go to AutoNation

by linuxdream on 06/26/2014

I am brutally honest when it comes to auto dealers and my purchasing experience so take this for what you will. I have purchased a number of cars in my life and I always judge a dealership by the people, the experience, and the deal. I purchased an STI here last week. The People: The sales people are nicer than your average dealership and the pressure is probably low to average. I never felt uncomfortable or like I was anything other than a car buyer (though more on that later). Employees passing by would even stop and chat. The only person I wasn't all that thrilled with was the manager (I think he was the manager) who was brought in to talk me into being ok with all the add ons. NY/NJ accent and demeanor to match. He was nice enough but it was the typical sales pitches and likely embellishments ("it costs me this much and it's really for your protection...") to get me to sign. B+ on the people. The Experience: Overall pretty typical. I actually went here by mistake. I was supposed to go AutoNation Subaru but I mixed up the addresses. As most car buyers do, I went in knowing what I wanted and got talked up into taking something else. I'm not terribly disappointed as I love the car but there's always that lingering spite of buying something you don't think was worth it. More on that in the deal section. We had to go back and forth a number of times on price because I had a dam good quote in writing from AutoNation. I was about to leave twice and of course they kept making me offers. Some insulting, others more reasonable. After the deal was said and done, the rest of the finance process was not bad. The Deal: So here's the thing. Camelback Subaru...and I'm guessing a lot of other dealers put a bunch of dealer add ons and stuff that is WAY over priced and generally not worth it. Tint? Fine, that was only about $50 more than aftermarket but $600 for paint protection that I have no choice in rejecting? Door and handle guards for another $600? You can find them on Amazon for under $10!!! ZakTek? You can get 3 years of applications/coverage for $180 ($30/application every 6mo). Here's the thing, you want to sell all this overpriced stuff to people, give them a choice and let them know they have a choice! Hiding the truth is just as bad as lying to make a buck. As far as the price of the car...typical markup I guess. Well over what Subaru advertises online and in media. Just know that you can easily get them down by walking out. Never go look at cars thinking you are going to walk out the door with one. Always go in with the idea that you will buy one next week. Don't let the draw of driving away NOW cost you a few thousand. Do research and have quotes ready. Hard numbers for the base price of the cars you want, the car you are trading in, and if possible, an offer from another dealer. Some tips: Talk your way out of paying for any of the extra stuff they put on the car without asking you first. You don't want it and don't need it. The tint in AZ is probably the only exception. The paint protection...hell no. You can get that cheaper aftermarket...and it's probably only a warranty they are selling you. You have no proof that they even put anything on the car. The door guards are 99% marked up. The ZakTek is about a 400% markup. Don't even bother. As far as the second round of negotiating (in the finance office) reject everything. The only possible thing you might want is the extended warranty but first, check your insurance company. Geico offers mechanical breakdown insurance on new cars for a whole lot cheaper. It costs me $16 every 6mo with a $250 deductible each time I use it. Way cheaper on a new vehicle than the $2000 plan the dealer wants you to buy (and finance so you are paying interest on it). It's also an exclusionary policy so it covers almost everything. Overall, if you can get them to keep their overpriced add ons, this is as good of a dealership as you will find. Car buying, sadly, is of the few purchase experiences that hasn't changed at all in decades. Everything is stacked against you. Know that going in and also know that 90% of what you hear in a dealership is a half truth at best. UPDATE: So a customer relations manager contacted me regarding my purchase and I explained all my concerns with the dealer package that I was forced to by. I explained that I was not happy at the value of the package and that I wanted at least a partial refund on the ZakTek and door guards. I was told that they would not work with me and that I was basically out of luck. Please do not purchase a vehicle from these people. Like all dealerships I have worked with, they rip you off with a nod and smile.

Straight forward

by rcptrs on 01/28/2014

It was pretty simple for me. I emailed the dealership and told them what the Edmunds recommended price was for the specific car I knew was on there lot. I told them I would pay that price and would not engage in haggling on the lot. They accepted my offer and I went to the lot the next day and bought the car. I did my research and test drove the car at a less cooperative dealership so I new what I wanted first. They were very professional with me.

Is there anything less than one star?

by OneStarMan on 07/07/2013

If you want to get a run around and lot of double talk, you can find it at Camelback Subaru. I received email from Danny G the GM saying he would be at the store on Saturday to help me. When I arrived at 1 pm and asked for him, I was told he knew I was on on the premises, but he was busy elsewhere. Two hours later, "Willie," with all his saccarharin charm and not good judgement, told me the GM "just found out two minutes ago you were here." What? Dumb thing to say, man. Another "manager" (Lonnie? I'm not sure about his name) was so dumb I wouldn't even talk to him. Too bad, too, as my salesman Alex D had done such a fine job that I was ready to buy a Forester right after I took a test drive. Hey, Camelback, you're not selling cars: You're selling cars to PEOPLE. Remember? The ones with the money and the ones you do not pay attention to when they tell you what they want? And I drove 100 miles to meet a GM who never even was on duty the day I came in to see him; or if he was, I never saw him.

Typical Car Experience--disappointing

by marathoner on 05/15/2013

I started my search for a new Subaru Forester here, and initially, I was impressed, and optimistic that I wouldn't be given the usual dealership experience of games, lies and "wait here while I talk to my manager." However, when we got down to the end game, and we were only a few hundred dollars apart, it happened. I got calls from the "sales manager", who I deduced had not spoken to the sales rep, based on his grasp of the facts. He said they could work something out on the price difference, and encouraged me to come back in. When I did, the sales rep did not know who had called me and said "the person who can make the decision on this price, could not be found." I guess he went missing because after 24 hours, I never heard back, and went to another dealership and bought a car. Bottom line was, because these guys resorted to practices, that everyone who buys a car hates, they lost a sale.

Good dealership, good experience

by 1gman on 12/31/2011

I used the Costco auto program to buy the Subaru and the local dealership was Camelback Subaru. I had not used the Costco program before but it was a good experience. No haggling over price, you pick the car they tell you the invoice price and guarantee the it is the lowest. The salesman, Mr. Updike was helpful and knowledgeable - which few salesman seem to be anymore. The process took longer than I would have hoped but that is the way these things go sometimes. We had looked at a Toyota Venza as well but the local Costco Toyota rep was NOT helpful and did not seem interested in selling a car so I took that as a sign and moved on. Both cars are very comparable with just a few differences. Hope this helps.
