New car experiences

by Happybuyer on 09/10/2021

Buying a car can be a trying experience. My experiences with Russell and Smith has been so pleasant that I've bought 7 vehicles. No question where I'll go next time when I want another newer vehicle.

Stay Away

by Sdavis on 04/27/2021

STAY AWAY, STAY AWAY, STAY AWAY FROM NEW CAR SALES Spent all day 1 day trying to get someone to contact me back on a new SUV sale after giving all the info to the first person and nothing.. Finally start working with someone the second day spoke to him about pricing, sent all my photos, got my appraisal amount then they call and start the old games. That vehicle sold but we have this one for same price. I said ok. They said what pricing are you seeing online I told them again. mind you i already told them this yesterday and today before we spent tons of my time sending in stuff. He said ok can you send me screen shots. So I spent more time taking screen shots of pricing on copilot and then once you click go to their website and took screen shots of the pricing I am seeing. I get a call back now stating oh no that was special pricing only for last week and he can send a screen shot from his side what it should be. 3000 more. Said can't do anything about pricing showing wrong. I can see why these Edges have been on Copilot for over 265 days because they are a bait and switch dealership.

A Disgrace To The Auto Industry

by Claire on 10/12/2019

This dealership is by far the scummiest I have ever encountered. After test driving the certified pre-owned 2017 Ford Explorer XLT that I was interested in, the salesman retrieved the CarFax and I noticed that there was an open recall. I asked what the recall detail entailed and he was unable to answer my question as he fumbled through the paperwork. I asked to see the paperwork and immediately identify the recall description which states, “Seat Frame Burred Edge”. I asked the salesman a series of questions in regards to the recall and he was unable to answer accordingly. Then the sales manager arrives after the salesman asked him to clarify and he assures the recall has been cleared and presents an offer that was in short, absurd. He attempted to charge me $1499 for an “insurance tax” (which is an attempt to charge you an extra fee on top of the warranty fee that is already included in the overall price), an interest rate of 5% with a monthly payment over $500, with a total charge over 30K. The original price listed showed $23,361 and an estimated payment of $329 per month. The payment details listed, “Estimated payment based on 3.59% APR for 72 months with $2,363 down for well qualified buyers.” I decline his offer and counter that the fee be removed, windshield replaced with a Ford manufactured windshield for free (there was a crack in the windshield and certified pre-owned vehicle repairs are to be replaced with Ford manufactured parts and not off-brands) and that my payment cannot exceed $400. After an hour he agrees to my terms and the total cost was around 25K. He asks me to wait for a finance manager to go over the terms of purchase. After sitting around for about 30 minutes the sales manager approaches me and says, “I apologize, but we cannot sell you this vehicle. The recall has not be taken care of and it could take anywhere from 2 weeks to 5 months to fix.” A quote from a report regarding the recall on September 12, 2019 states, "The problem: The edges of seat frames may be sharp. Customers could come in contact with the sharp edges when reaching between the power front seat and center console and be injured. The fix: Ford dealers will install tape to the exposed edge, at no charge to owners.” So let me get this straight, it would take from 2 weeks up to 5 months to put a piece of tape on a burred edge on the seat? Furthermore, on the listing it states “Some vehicles may be subject to manufacturer safety recalls. Before purchasing, be sure to ask the dealer for an up-to-date status on any recalls.” At no point did any of the employees provide me with the accurate details of the recall when asked. Not only was my time wasted for over 3 hours, but they went from more than willing to sell me a vehicle that was deemed certified pre-owned, to not being able to sell it because the recall had not been completed and putting a piece of tape on the burred edge could take anywhere from 2 weeks to 5 months. In addition, the car was deemed certified the same day I was there by a report shown to me by the employees despite the fact that it was advertised for weeks with an open recall. I suspect they refused the sale because the total I negotiated was a good deal in hopes to sell the vehicle substantially overpriced to some poor sap and attempted to sell me a vehicle that was clearly never certified. Needless to say, this dealership is full of [non-permissible content removed] employees that will waste your time and attempt to sell you a vehicle that you can buy for a substantially lower rate. My advice to anyone reading this is obviously to not shop at this dealership, but also do your research. Walking into a dealership without an understanding of the auto industry makes you an easy target to be taken advantage of. Save yourself and your bank account from the manipulation and bamboozlement of dealerships such as Russell & Smith Ford.

Don’t purchase a vehicle here

by Landon on 04/29/2019

I purchased my vehicle through this dealership and within 2 hours my check engine light came on then the very next day a section of my exhaust fell out from underneath my car and damaged a few things on the way back to the dealership for the check engine light once I took my car in I’ve had to bring it back over 4 times just to get things fix or refixed again for the same problems no only is the service department not fixing the car but the communication is terrible with this dealership trying to get ahold of someone to try and help you is incredibly difficult

Never Again

by LisaL on 01/16/2019

I waited about two weeks before writing this review. I wanted to give myself some time to cool off and be more objective about it. This review is somewhat lengthy, but I want to tell the whole story and give both sides of it. I will start out by saying I will NEVER deal with Russell and Smith Ford again. I found the salesmen to be untruthful and unreliable. I only wish, I had read some of the reviews posted on the dealership before I started dealing with them. It has been my experience, buying a car is a stressful and agonizing procedure. When a woman walks into a dealership by herself, the price automatically goes up. So, when I decided to by one, I held out hope it wouldn’t be as bad as I had anticipated. No such luck having dealt with Russell and Smith Ford! I located a used 2017 Sonata at Russell and Smith Ford I was interested in, low mileage, no accidents or damage reported on the car. (Based on the carfax) Emailed the dealership through the car search website I was using. Received a reply with a work-up on the car in a timely manner. The base price offer sent to me was $16,891.00, which I felt was a good price. So, I called them up and said I would be there the next day to test drive the car and try to make a deal on it. Arriving at the dealership I was greeted by friendly sales reps, offered refreshments and a nice place to wait while they brought the car up for me to test drive. I made my wishes very clear, I did not want to haggle about prices. Not having seen the car, I assumed the car I test drove was the one I had made the inquiry about. I didn’t realize it was a different car until after I had purchased the one I bought. The one I test drove was a dark gray Sonata, the one I bought was a silver Sonata. But, I am getting ahead of myself. The actual purchasing of the car was a very stressful and unpleasant ordeal. First, I was expecting to pay around $18,200 based on the price sent to me. The work-up and pricing presented to me the day of the test drive was way over $19,200. When I inquired about the cost, showing the salesman the info sent to me, he gave me excuses about that cost was based on a new car, a computer glitch, and several others that made no sense. Told the salesman, I was not prepared to pay the cost he was asking and thanked him, and got up to leave. He asked me what I was willing to offer and I replied $18,200 based on the price sent to me. Of course, he said he couldn’t accept an offer like that. I thanked him for his time, left and made my way to my truck. Another salesman chased me down as I was backing out, trying to leave the parking lot. Claimed he was the floor manager, and would really like to sell me the car, wanting to know what it would take to make a deal. I let him know, I was not going to haggle about a price in the middle of the parking lot. He could text or email me the price he was willing to sell me the car. After exchanging texts for several days, we finally agreed on a price, $18,400 drive out and the dealership would deliver the car to me. I sent all the info requested so they could get started on the contracts and I wouldn’t have to wait a lengthy time before signing the papers. I arrived at the dealership about three hours later after the final text, prepared to sign the papers. Upon arrival, I was informed they had not received my email. I pulled it, on my phone, to show it had been sent and received. So I had to wait for three hours or more while they completed the paperwork for me to sign. That was on December 31 and I made arrangements to have the car delivered to me January 4, because of the holiday and several rainy days of weather following Jan. 1. I did not get the car delivered as promised. After several texts and phone conversations, which consisted of lies and excuses, the car was delivered to me a day and half late. I immediately noticed the difference in the color of the car. But it was the 2.0 turbo Sonata I had located on line. I didn’t drive the car for a couple of days, once I did, I notice road noise coming in on the passenger side, that had not been present on the car I had test drove. I had my mechanic/bodyman look the car over, and immediately he noticed the passenger door had been painted and upon further inspection the passenger side of the car had been damaged and repaired, a poor job of repair. A fact not made known to me through the Carfax or other paperwork or communications from the dealership. I had to pay him to make the necessary repairs on the car, so it would not have road noise and the door would close properly. Just some of the repairs included, gluing the rubber seal around the door, adjusting the door level and other repairs in order to make the car ready to drive. I had to order some minor parts for the outside of the car in order for it to obtain its original look. So, to sum up my experience with Russell & Smith Ford. • They were not honest about the cost of the car. • Did not present the correct car for a test drive. • Lied during the procedure of purchasing the car and delivery • Withheld truthful information about the car being damaged. So I end my review, saying once again, I found the salesmen and dealership to be dishonest and not forth coming with the truth. I would not deal or buy another car from Russell and Smith Ford.

Worst Car Buying Experience

by tiffrb20 on 02/28/2017

Worst Car Buying Experience of my life! On Saturday, February 25, 2017, my husband and I spent 5 hours sitting in this dealership trying to buy a 2007 Kia Sedona. We knew the vehicle we wanted. We were initially pleased with our experience. After the test drive and we decided we wanted the van, everything started going downhill. The paperwork took much longer than it should have, in large part due to our salesman, Muhammed, who everyone repeatedly told us was new. We tried to be patient, everyone has to learn. It soon became obvious that Muhammed had no clue what he was doing. We were shuffled from one seating area to another. We finally completed the paperwork with someone else. We were then told that the van was being detailed. So we waited. Two hours later, after being told multiple times that it was almost finished, we were told that there was a mix up and the van was being fully detailed. Then we were told the van needed to pass the final inspection before they could release it. By this time, the garage was closing, so a man named Jim told us he would give us a loaner and that our van would be delivered to us Monday, February 27. By 1:00 p.m. Monday afternoon, we had heard nothing. I called 3 times, my husband called once. Finally, around 3:30, Muhammed called me back. I was told the van would be ready in about an hour and half. At 4:53 p.m., Muhammed called to tell me he was on his way to my office building with the van. After Muhammed left in the loaner car, I realized he had left the remote to a Lexus in my new van. I then pushed the overhead button to open the sunroof and the entire section of plastic and buttons fell down and just dangled. I realized that someone had broken the plastic surrounding the buttons in two places. When we test the van, I pushed all the buttons. The overhead plastic was not broken. All the buttons worked. Nothing was broken. The sliding door on the driver side was not working properly and we were told they would fix it. The door is still not working. On Tuesday, my husband took the van back to the dealership to try and get them to fix what they broke. No one would even talk to him. He said people were literally running away from him. I understand that you buy a used car as is. When we bought the car and signed the paperwork, we were happy with the condition it was in. I fully expected them to fix what they broke. I emailed the General manager, Anson Jones and have heard nothing. Horrible customer service and they don't seem to understand the definition of truthful. Go somewhere else. It will save you boat loads of time and frustration.

Excellent, Friendly and Professional

by lad3peas on 07/08/2016

My wife and I were very impressed with the service we received from the very beginning. We began our search online and began to call various dealership in search of our new car. Most of the calls we made were not good, we encountered people unwilling to help us. However, Russell and Smith Ford was different. Joe Rodriquez took our call and was willing to help us with our need and answered all our questions. He was courteous and professional. He made the experience easy and smooth. When we finally made it in to see the vehicle, he was nice to the whole family. Once we decided on the vehicle the paperwork to signing was a breeze. We were in and out at a reasonable time. We highly recommend the dealership and definitely have Joe Rodriquez help you out. A+++ service!

Used car purchase

by lschluns on 08/21/2015

I purchased a used 2012 vehicle from Russell & Smith and my salesmen was Joe Rodriguez. My overall experience was very pleasant in that, in total, I spent less than 90 minutes in the dealership. I knew it would be a cash transaction, looked at the car during lunch, made my offer, gave my business card and told Joe to get with his manager. We countered each other's offer via email and that evening purchased the car. No pressure, no haggling and left with a good deal on a used car for my son. The internet team at this Dealership understands that most people do not have 4 to 5 hours to negotiate on a vehicle.

F150s Rule

by Rocketsallstar on 06/28/2015

It was my first purchase with financing. I expected to get a small car or used truck and not really what I wanted. We explored many options both used and new. Joe was very patient explaining what I needed to do to purchase the new F-150 I wanted. I really did not imagine it to be possible. After a lot of hard work and waiting Joe came back and said Ford would help us. I am very happy with my new truck and grateful for everything Russell and Smith did for me and my family. They gave us snacks and water while my kids played in play area and watched tv while we waited. Go see Joe Rodriguez today! F-150s Rule!!
