Bad start with a good ending

by Michelle on 03/03/2023

Purchased a used vehicle here a few days ago. I do love my new car & I am happy with the decision to get it. Mike was our salesmen! Before coming in, we discussed a trade in over the phone in which I explained my situation & of course, he reassured me we'd come up with a deal we'd both be happy with. My trade in had aftermarket parts which my salesman was very aware of. In my case, I kept all of the stock parts and told him I'd be happy to bring all of that with me. Engine was never modified but exterior of the vehicle was & I had a aftermarket steering wheel. I did let Mike know I had to travel 1 1/2 - 2 hours to get to this dealership so this deal was important to me. I traveled to this dealership in the middle of a work week, he knew I was serious. Once arriving at the dealership I met a very welcoming Mike who came on his day off & we got to discussing my trade in & the cost of the vehicle I was interested in. Full disclosure, I am not the easiest person to please & I am not someone who settles for less. I also have a lot of knowledge as to what my car was worth after getting written estimates from other dealerships for my trade in. I have been a car enthusiast for most of my life. My boyfriend also shares the same passion as me & worked at a Honda dealership for years. We've owned several project cars. The situation with my trade in wasn't the best & I was fully aware of that. I still owed a good chunk of money on this vehicle (Around 8K), I was young when I first got it had horrible interest. A lesson was defiantly learned! But all I really wanted was the dealership to pay off the loan. I didn't even want the aftermarket parts back either, they could choose to do whatever they felt with them. I had a aftermarket steering wheel in the vehicle. The 1st offer to me was ONLY 5k... I asked him if he was joking. He wasn't. He says its because he was told that they don't know if they can't put the stock parts back on & most likely they would try to whole sale my car.... what?? This is a dealership with a service center & mechanics, y'all are telling me you don't know how to reinstall the stock suspension, a steering wheel, the stock tail lights & a exhaust? And whole sale? The car only had around 74,000 Miles on it and was running strong and only 6 years old (2017). Me and my boyfriend giggled because be for real you know. I told Mike no way. So, he went back to the supervisor again to see if he could offer more. He comes back and says 6k. Again wow, I have written offers from other dealerships for between 8-9k I could not believe this. Not only that, there very own website has a spot you can get a ball park estimate for your vehicle and it was around $8.5k in FAIR condition!!!! Exactly what I wanted?? I felt insulted at this point so I got a little upset with Mike and he could defiantly tell so he went back once more and came back with a offer that was significantly better but they wanted us to reinstall all the stock parts back onto the vehicle...Mind you again, we live TWO hours away. We were 100% were not going to do that when other places offered to take the car already AS IS and reinstall the parts themselves. THIS was a deal for the dealership to take my car for what they offered I couldn't believe that they asked us to do that. I knew my situation wasn't the best but in no way was I being unreasonable At this point we honestly we're ready to just go back home. My boyfriend felt like I was getting the run around and I was not in any rush to rush into a deal. If it didn't happen it wasn't meant to be we'd look else where. There was the same vehicle at a different dealership I was interested in just down the street as well so if we didn't make a deal here I had something else lined up. I know what my car was worth. Mike finally comes back and offers me what I was comfortable with and says they will install all the stock parts back on themselves also. Perfect, but just 20 minutes ago they told me they didn't know how, weird! But to be honest, I don't believe for a second that this info was coming from Mike, it was definitely coming from whomever the manager was telling him to relay this info to us. Wish I got his name. Now, you are probably wondering with all that said... why on earth would we still give 5 stars and it comes down to Mike & Sal. They saved the sale from going sideways. Mike is a wonderful person & he is the only reason I still entertained the deal because he truly was fighting for us & you could tell. Regardless of the trade in headache, I at the end of the day got what I wanted & that's all I cared about. I don't think I should have had to fight that hard either but all is fine now So boom! We take the vehicle we are interested in for a test drive, and its perfect we are in love with it. Mike was extremally knowledgeable on this car and was able to answer all of our questions. The car was a 2020 Rav4 XLE, and the pricing at this dealership is phenomenal. Of course that's also why we drove nearly two hours there! We sit down with Sal to sign the papers and I have to add, Sal was great threw that entire process. He got us the monthly payment we were looking for and a better APR then what we were even expecting. We ended up leaving with a huge smile on our faces Although the trade in experience wasn't the best at first, we feel because Mike worked so hard to get us the deal we wanted, we'd 100% come back to purchase a vehicle from him again. Hopefully in the near future. If you are looking for a sales man who is seriously working for you (hard to find these days) look no further. He is your guy & will make it a reality! Thank you again to Mike & Sal. We are so happy

Excellent Car Shopping Experience

by amlopez209 on 02/13/2017

Both Matthew Curran and Ron Kinder took excellent car of me and made my car buying experience hassle free. Ron went above and beyond to get me the best deal possible and Matthew was extremely knowledgeable and thorough with the functionality my new 2017 Accord Hybrid Touring. I am beyond happy with my new car, it is exactly what I wanted down to the bum warmers lol. I will definitely return and recommend them to all my friends and family in the market for a new and used car. I appreciate both of them taking the time to help me with my purchase. I am 100% satisfied customer.

Shady Sales/Customer Service

by flores2704 on 03/17/2014

Sales person Neil spent majority of our time boasting about himself than listening to our concerns and needs on 3/16/14; poor representation of this family owned dealership.

Bad experience because of the service department

by WAshton on 02/07/2014

I purchased three new Honda's from Winter Honda and received an awful service experience immediately after the sale. Once the sales was complete, I was no longer treated like a good customer. I will never buy another car from Winter Honda.

Best dealership experience I've ever had

by classicdk on 12/31/2013

I bought a 2014 Honda Accord EX-L on Saturday, Dec. 28th. I'm 56 years old and I have to say that this was the best car buying experience that I've had. The service from the sales guys and the personal touch from the general manager was superb. Very friendly and helpful and when I mentioned the price that I was looking for, what I was planning to put down for a down-payment and that I was ready to buy, the process was the most comfortable and stress free that I've had. Right from my initial phone call with Neil L. who was very accommodating without drilling me for information I felt comfortable. When my wife and came down Neil was taking care of another customer so they had Romel N., the internet manager, help us. The car that I had seen on their website did not have the navigation system that we wanted so Romel searched other Honda dealerships for the EX-L 2.4l cvt Accord with navigation in silver / black. He also involved his general manager, kevin p. who came over and met my wife & I and he made some personal phone calls to make a dealer-trade with another Honda dealer in the bay area and found our car. Romel was very thorough, upfront and helpful. The finance manager, Gleen N. was very personable and did not try to upsell us on any number of products. He just helped us determine what our actual needs were. We had to come back the next day to pick up our Accord due to the dealer trade. We then had Neil, the sales consultant that I had originally spoke with on the phone do the delivery process with us. He was off-the-charts amazing in walking us through all of the technology equipment on the vehicle. My wife and I are not real tech-saavy and Neil was very patient and eager to explain it and show us. The general manager couldn't have been nicer or more appreciative in our business. He took a personal interest in our getting what we wanted. Their was not a hint of intimidation in this dealership. We traveled 50 miles to go there and because of the experience we will take our car there for regular service even though we will be passing other Honda dealerships that are closer. We highly recommend Winter Honda.

Winter Honda Lies and Cheats

by ardis on 10/24/2011

Our "new" 2010 was damaged (it "fell" off the delivery truck) and we were not told until about 2 seconds before we bought it. We immediately had an accident with the car because the master cylinder needed replacing and they said it was fine. We think the car had an accident coming off the delivery truck because the brakes didn't work right. We had to go to another dealer to find out it was bad. We had to leave our truck we used as part of the down payment. They said the truck would be very secure. The truck was stolen. We had about $800 of personal stuff stolen and they said it wasn't their responsiblility.
