Great vehicle, except for the back-up assist fail

Love the smooth and refined drive - a real pleasure especially on long trips Love the hybrid - driving in electric mode is very quiet - adds to the refinement. I've gone 1-2 months between trips to the gas station when I've been mostly local Back-up assist is a failure - it was fun using it to automatically back out of my garage until it missed by a little and slammed the mirror into the side of the garage door. Side mirror costs $2,200 to replace. I complained to BMW that the back-up assist doesn't work and they said "too bad" the user manual says don't rely on it, so you're on your own. What a waste of money.

Xdrive45e - Great car, but caught in a transition?

The X5 seems to be caught in between ICE and electric, old and new in a lot of ways. The combination of old school buttons and the Infotainment system appears to have been designed by a committee that couldn't decide whether to be modern (touchscreen), adhere to the "dial" the whole brand uses, or cater to technophobe that wants their car to be like the one they had in the 1990's. I'm still trying to figure out what I need to use a manual dial/button for and what I need to go through the infotainment system for. I wish I could type on the touchscreen and not dial through letters for the NAV, which is otherwise great. The factory setting limits the battery charging to 6 Amps. When I first plugged mine in (battery at zero), it said it would take over 48 hours to charge. As a prior PHEV owner, at least I knew something was off, and I adjusted the 6A to 16A through the settings. I was puzzled that it only drew 10A after that (shows up on the dashboard), and then I realized that BMW supplied a 10A home charger, which is ridiculous for the size of the battery (a ten year old Prius PHEV with a 14 mile range battery used a 12A charger). So now I need to invest in a better charger, which I shouldn't have to do for a car at this price point. The 16A max input is also a thing of the past - I have a 240V 40A outlet in my driveway, so let me charge in <2 hours! I didn't think I'd like or want the heads up display, but after a few hours, I decided I really liked it, and what one sees there is highly configurable (including removing the annoying red color of the speedometer when you go 1 mph over the posted speed limit). The drive is excellent and the 'e' drive gives the car plenty of power. I love the adjustable seats (comparing to a Tesla). The steering correction gets confused at times if there are old lines in the road or other straight lines that conflict with the lane markers. Overall, I'm happy with my purchase and I believe it is the best large PHEV out there. But I'm puzzled that a company that prides itself on its engineering couldn't do better, especially on the charging capacity.

A great car but BMW has removed features

This is my fifth X5. On this 2022 model BMW is skimping on details to wit: the removal of the fog lamps (Where I live these are essential), remove the off switch for that annoying engine off at lights (it won’t turn off in Sports mode), removed the electric rear power close on the lower tailgate, The removal of the metal luggage protective bands on the floor of the trunk. Further it took two months to get my car, a car I didn’t specifically want but the electric version would not have been available until October or later 2022. The ultimate driving machine is becoming a disappointment. Instead of under promising and over delivering, BMW is losing its panache through skimping.

Awesome Hybrid! Fun to drive!

I have driven almost 10,000 miles and have only used two tanks of gas! I usually get 32 electric miles per charge and plug in at home and have ability to charge at work. My commute is 21 each way which is perfect. I love the it keeps track of electric miles vs gas miles. Car handles great and is a beast in gas mode. Interior is comfortable ( had a Range Rover sport before) and info system is easy to use. Large display is nice. Only negative is hand gestures- if you grab your drink or use your hands when talking you can trigger the volume or mute it on accident. LOVE the cargo area in back with the drop down gate.. no more things falling out when lifting the hatch.

I love the X5 M50i. There is more than meets the eye with this beauty! The performance is impressive while adding functionality for those that prefer an SUV. I don't regret the purchase.

This car is great! I wanted the M package but it’s too difficult to find right now. Amazing car though. I got out of the Velar and this car is way better!

5 Stars in every respect except……

The X5 is by far one of the best SUVs in its class. Comfortable and quiet ride, great acceleration and quality throughout. Only complaint is that door sills, not inside, get wet from wet roads leaving them dirty and have to be constantly wiped down. 5 stars in every respect but giving 4 stars because I can not seem to get recommended oil changes when needed under their pre paid maintenance program. Dealer and other experts recommend oil changes at 10,000 mile intervals but because the vehicle computer stated an interval of 14,000 the dealer would not change the oil at the recommended interval. The computer modifies the interval subject to driving conditions and eventually dropped to an 11,500 mile interval but still over the 10,000 mile interval. Despite numerous attempts over two months to get a satisfactory answer I still do not have one. The icing on the cake was an email I received today from BMW stating the importance of oil changes at 10,000 or one year to improve performance and engine life and still at just over 10,000 miles since the last oil change the dealer and customer service says I do not need an oil change.

I'm enjoying my first BMW. It's quiet and goes well. One downside is the lack of information on electric charging, so I'm thinking of ordering a new charger.
