Audi e-tron Chronos Edition 4dr SUV Exterior

We liked the 2023 e-tron when it first came out, but it's lost some of its luster as it gets on in years. It's still a right-sized machine that feels like a two-row version of the Audi Q7, and the electric powertrain only adds to the experience with smooth, effortless power. A quiet, stable, almost cosetting ride adds to the appeal. However, its sub-250-mile range and distracting-to-use touchscreen interface limit its appeal.

What is the Audi e-tron?

The Audi e-tron was one of the first electric SUVs to hit the market when it debuted just a few years ago, beating many rivals from both mainstream and luxury automakers to the market. It's not the largest SUV around, but it has a premium look and feel that other EVs struggle to match. The most disappointing thing about the e-tron is its 222-mile EPA estimated range, though rumors suggest that a big update is underway for 2023. Audi has a few other EVs in the pipeline, and we expect updated powertrain tech to make its way into the e-tron. We're also expecting some revised exterior styling to accompany the updated tech.

Even without an update, there's a lot to like about the e-tron. The interior is comfortable and well appointed, and the e-tron's air suspension smooths out most road imperfections without hurting handling. It's quiet and spacious, too, with a reasonably large cargo area for an EV. The in-car tech is among the best in the class too.

A lot of new EVs have hit the market since the e-tron debuted in 2019. Audi has several other EVs, including the sleek e-tron GT sedan and small Q4 e-tron SUV. Outside of Audi, the Tesla Model Y remains a strong competitor thanks in part to excellent range and Tesla's expansive Supercharger network. And while they're not quite as premium, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Ford Mustang Mach-E offer a lot for less.

We expect some significant updates for the 2023 Audi e-tron, with more range, more tech and updated styling. This should help it stay competitive and fresh in an ever-growing and ever-hotter class of cars.

Th e-tron offers a quiet cabin, with a good ride quality. The material inside are really nice, as expected of Audi however, storage in cabin isn't as much as one would expect from a dedicated EV. I actually bought a 2021 e-tron, but that's not in Edmunds' system yet. I've only owned the car a few weeks, and I'm a huge fan. Smoother than my old Mercedes E-Class, comfortable and well suited for my needs. This might not be the car for you if you frequently take 500 mile trips. The e-tron was just not ready for prime time. I have never taken a car in for service more than this one, and all in the first year of ownership before I ditched it. Audi and the dealerships did not stand behind the e-tron at all. When CarPlay failed to work for the 100th time, they gave me a 6 page pamphlet to figure it out myself.
