Overview
The Infiniti Q50 is the lone surviving sedan in the Japanese automaker's lineup. Every other car manufactured by Infiniti is an SUV of some sort. Even though the Q50 looks attractive, it has not been fully redesigned in 10 years. Lacking most of the modern goodies of its competitors has kept the Q50 low in our rankings of small luxury sedans. But not everything in the Q50 is bad. Possibly the best feature of the Q50 is its powerplant. Even in the base version, you get a potent engine.
Edmunds spotlight: Power!
The Q50 looks good, but more important is what's moving it. Under the hood lies a lively turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 powerplant that's capable of generating 300 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque in the Luxe and Sensory trims in the current lineup. If you upgrade to the Red Sport 400, power increases to 400 ponies and 350 lb-ft. In our testing, the Q50 hit 60 mph in 5.4 seconds. There's no denying there's power coming from this relic.
Competitors to consider
The Q50 can be a tough sell. So if you're in the market for a luxury sedan, there are manufacturers that are keeping up with the times. The Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the BMW 3 Series, the Genesis G70, the Audi A4 and the Lexus IS have all received proper treatment to keep them at the top of their game.
