Gold-Taste-Highlander

by GoldenDragon1 on 03/20/2016

Me and my wife came in to buy Highlander. We want leather and navigation. Our sales guy Keith was great. He showed us three different Highlanders at three different price points. We decided on XLE. We discussed price with Keith and were very close to deal. Keith manager came to talk and we buy Highlander at agreeable prices. I highly recommend Keith and go to Gateway Toyota.

Gateway Toyota/Keith Awesome

by Tacomachad on 03/16/2016

I came in for service on my 2004 Tacoma. It ended up my truck was going to cost more than I wanted to spend on a 12 year old car. I read different reviews about a salesman named Keith who worked there. I asked to speak with him and he discussed my needs for a new truck. He showed me 3 different vehicles and I decided on one of them. Him and his manager Joe worked out a great deal for me. I am now driving my new truck. I highly recommend Gateway and Keith to anyone looking for a car.

Never again

by toyota2017 on 03/15/2016

WE had returned to Gateway to buy our fourth Toyotay, our third from them. Not our first rodeo. Prior to this, we had always had a good relationship with them but after this experience, I won't ever be buying another vehicle from them again. I got the run around on my trade, to the point where they outright lied to me (like I had't done my homework) and I was very upfront about what I wanted. Instead of coming back and telling me yes we can make it work or no we can't, I get a piece of paper put in front of me and I start getting quoted payments with ridiculous terms, which was a complete insult to my intelligence and not at all what I asked for. Did I ask for payment numbers? Did I ask for terms? No. What's ridiculous is we made our past history with the dealership quite clear, but I guess that wasn't important to them. the sales manager there is a disaster. IF I decide to get another Toyota, I sure won't buy it there. At this point I am so fed up with Gateway (the Service Department is another nightmare) I just may go buy a Honda or Nissan. Galaxy Toyota in Eatontown sure treated me better in service.

Excellent Service!

by NicoleF_77 on 03/14/2016

I have been to this dealership many times for service. For the first time purchased a new car here. Ben was excellent. Answered all of our questions, and stayed with us throughout the process. He even moved all of the things from our old car. I can't say enough about the great customer service here.

Avoid Joe Buchanan

by tracy316810 on 02/06/2016

This was not my first rodeo working with dealerships, but I can definitely say that it is, by far, the worst experience with a dealer I’ve had to date. I’ve gone to the Cadillac dealer on Rt. 37; nothing but professional and courteous. Nissan dealer on 37; professional and courteous. Chevy, Honda, and Hyundai dealers on 37; also very professional and courteous. However, my experience at Gateway Toyota was a nightmare. When I first went to see a car I was interested in, my fiancé and I were going over everything with Ian (sales rep). He was very nice, patient, and thorough. We took the car for a test drive and decided to buy it. We discussed some of the options in terms of payments and he explained everything in detail. I had planned on a cosigner to get a better APR, so I knew I wasn’t walking out with the keys that day. Ian had called over his sales “manager” Joe Buchanan, who seemed to be nice…. At first. Though, I knew he was just trying to get the sale before we walked out of the door. Sorry buddy, but there’s no dummy here. Car buying is a process, and I understand the entire dealer process. I’m smart enough to know my own research before committing to an $18,000 purchase. Anyway, we left the dealership that day with the understanding that our target was set to a certain point – all I needed was my cosigner. We called Joe Buchanan to find out what paperwork they require as all dealers might prefer different things. We got his answering machine, and left a message. We didn’t receive a call back, and we had to play phone tag just to get him on the phone. He gave us the information we needed and we drove right over there. I was told Ian would be there tonight when I went there, but he wasn’t. Not his fault. However, his sales manager Joe was. This guy must have been bipolar because his entire demeanor was complete opposite from our prior encounter. We walked in and were notified Joe sent somebody else to work with us, even after he explained he would be handling it. After he was requested to the discussion table, there he was – where everyone else was dressed appropriately for the job, he’s wearing blue jeans, sneakers, and a sweater. I just though a sales manager would present themselves in professional attire if the sales reps do. Guess not. He was very condescending from the moment he had to walk away from his computer room. I presented some information to him, which he immediately shot down and acted as if I was wrong or other professional dealers were wrong. He brought me into his “office” and showed me an invoice which just so happened to be conveniently pulled up on his computer monitor. He’s explaining how much he owns the car for ($18,9xx) and that it’s listed at $18,2xx. He sounded very ignorant at this point – I have done enough research to know he was lying. I have friends who work in dealerships – I wasn’t kidding when I said I knew the process. That wasn’t even the issue, though. The issue was that we discussed the numbers Ian had given us and he proceeded to say it doesn’t matter what Ian said, and that the decision was his and we were not getting the car for the numbers previously discussed. At this point, it was fight or flight – and I decided I should take my money elsewhere. This in itself is going to reflect on Gateway Toyota’s business as my fiancé was also going to be buying a 2016 Toyota when Spring came so he didn’t have to worry about the salt on the roads damaging the paint. My mother was also going to buy a Toyota for herself really soon. They just lost about $90,000 because of one ignorant employee. [non-permissible content removed] My father who served in Vietnam was asking questions and this guy wouldn’t look him in the eye, and completely brushed off some of his questions. My thing is this: We didn’t come to a deal – that’s fine! I don’t mind that – but how does Gateway Toyota employ someone who shows no professionalism? Everyone else there was pleasant and apologetic. I will be speaking to whoever I need to, to make sure this guy approaches people professionally from this point forward. This is unacceptable. I’m young so I can brush it off with a conversation and review about him, but if he ever behaved this way with my parents or another elder couple, I would have let him hear it in front of everyone in the showroom. If you do happen to shop at Gateway Toyota, avoid [non-permissible content removed] at all costs and spare yourself the disrespect. Request somebody else immediately.

Be careful when dealing with Assistant Finance

by Kartik_Rav4 on 09/24/2014

I went to Gateway Toyota Scion to look for a pre-owned Toyota SUV. The sales Rep., or the Auto advisor as they called met us and was actively showing some SUVs. Based on his advise we opted for a RAV4 Sport. After a while, he comes back to us saying that it is not available now and shows another Rav4. During the test run, we noticed the higher than average engine noise, but he said that prior to delivery they would do the engine tuning. However, even after delivery it was still the same. We went for Finance, and one lady Finance Assistant was filling out various details for the Banks. A day later we were informed regarding the Finance offers from 2 Banks out of which we selected a Bank with 4.99% interest. While signing the Sale agreement, we noticed a additional charge of $650 as "Activation Fee". When I had enquired about this charge, I was informed that it is "Bank fee". And this additional charge is almost half of the the Bank interest for the 3 years. Later when I checked with the Bank they said that there is nothing like a separate "Bank fee". Though I sent emails for clarification, as the sale is already over, they completely ignore the customer. They don't even acknowledge that this customer exist. When dealing with this firm and in particular this lady Finance Assistant, one need to be extra careful so as to not get fleeced with these type of additional charges.

Ask for Fred H., he's great!

by glorysmkt on 01/16/2014

It was time to trade in my Sienna, grandkids all in school now, so I went onto Edmunds.com, read reviews, got a trade in value, and upon deciding on a vehicle I even got a price promise. I was so easy, I did all the homework with my husband at our kitchen table. I was contacted by Gateways's manager, and set up an appointment to go in, without my husband. I met Fred, test drove a few models, and decided on a Highlander. Not the one I had had the price promise on, but the one I liked the best, which was less than the one I origionally intended to purchase. The experience was easy, no pressure, no pushing, no problems. I was treated with respect, which in turn, that dealership earned mine. In 43 years of purchasing vehicles, it was never so nice. I was in and out in less than 3 hours, including financing, and was treated like a VIP. I highly recommend Fred, he was a total gentleman, especially if your a woman alone, I never felt intimidated, and he showed respect for all my decisions. My satisfaction was his only goal.

Best dealership to deal with

by Cathy77 on 01/16/2013

I had a very good experience with Gateway. I lost my husband this year and most car dealers I went to were very intimidating. I felt very insecure. Dealing with "Paul W." and "Max" was a pleasure. No hassal just cut to the chase and the price was perfect according to my research. GATEWAY TOYOTA is the place to go. It is the ONLY place I will ever go.

REAL BAD DEAL

by Teddy59 on 12/02/2012

To make a long story short....They are the worst dealership I have ever been to. I bought a truck from them. I was having some financial difficulties and filed for bankruptcy. I contacted them and they told me to bring my truck back and they would give me my trade in back(a car). They told me to get a letter from the lawyer that would allow me a car loan and then we would talk. In getting back the car, after I received this letter, I would make the payments on the car. They then called telling me they "mistakenly" paid off the car loan and now I would have to make payments to them for the loan. I agreed and signed papers. They said when I get this letter, I could get another vehicle. In the meantime, I moved to Pa. They then started calling me, leaving messages to call. They had even called all my family members too, harassing them. I called and was told to bring the car in, that they had a used car they would give me with no payments until this letter thing was taken care of. I, along with my sister (which is where I live)drove there. Its a 3 hour drive from where we are in Pa. When we got there at around 7:30 p.m., they informed me that they had no car but had to take my car back i.e. repossess it. I asked them why there was no car when they told me there was. No real answer. Here we are, stuck 3 hours from home. It was getting close to closing time for them so they suddenly came up with a "rental" that we could use until the letter came. That was right before Sandy. A week after Sandy, they called again and said that they now had a car and to bring back the rental. Again , we drove there. 3 HOURS only for them to take the keys and say that they had no car. That was when Rodney suggested that we take a "bus" home. When we wouldnt leave, they asked if I had anyone that could co-sign. The only one I knew was my mother, who has perfect credit. After persuading her to cosign, they had a truck for us. Then they informed us that one of their guys were going to drive to my mothers for her to sign paperwork...with us. After a 2 hour drive to my mothers, they had her sign the papers only to find out it had to be in her name only. My mother is 74. I thought she was gonna have a heart attack. She agreed and they told her that they would send her copies of all the paperwork. We found out too, that there was all kinds of extras added in. We NEVER had any say over the vehicle, nor did we even know how much the payment was gonna be. And realized we never even test drove it. After a week or so of calling and asking where the paperwork was, we decided we didn't want the vehicle after all. Too many shady things going on. It was then that they said there was NO way we could bring it back, that we were stuck with it. My mother, mind you, almost had to be hospitalized due to her high blood pressure and not sleeping. To this day, 20 days later, we still have no paperwork but yet they managed to send out the registration. We still know nothing as far as payments or anything. And as far as friendliness, they were friendly only until they could take advantage of an already bad situation. Then they were outright RUDE. Don't ever buy a vehicle from them...you'll end up with more than you can imagine.

Pleasant experience

by nikmar on 07/23/2010

Peferenced ordered a 2010 4 Runner limited. Vehicle was delivered in allotted time frame and as ordered. Price that was agreed to on vehicle and my trade in previously (at time of order) were honored even though my trade in mileage has increased. New vehicle was spotlessy prepped. Time at dealership was minimal. Very efficient and straight forward. I would recommend this dealer to any of my friends.
