Excellent Buying Experience

by happycust7 on 07/21/2016

If you're looking for a great place to purchase your next vehicle, I'd recommend Marina del Rey Toyota. Tracy helped me to buy my Toyota Rav4 and I was very happy with the experience. My husband and I were treated with respect and the process was painless. We weren't pressured. They have a very friendly and warm environment. If you're on the West Side, this is the place to buy your next Toyota.

So happy with my new Toyota!

by dwyerb21 on 02/02/2016

I had a fantastic experience at Marina del Rey Toyota. Had the pleasure of working with Steven and Chuck. Steven was able to anticipate my needs and find exactly what I was looking for while honoring my budget and price point. I even ended up with a model that offered a little more bang for my buck! Chuck, who helped me test-drive each car I was considering, was extremely knowledgeable of each model and it's features. This was my first time leasing a car on my own and I felt confident that I was in good hands - the staff was friendly, eager to help and efficient. Everyone was attentive and right there with me every step of the way, All in all, I am very happy with my safe, reliable and new Toyota!

Great Service

by susieqinla on 11/08/2014

I had such a great experience with Kendra that I tried to get her to dealer trade for the Toyota I wanted but they didn''t have Camry XSE. She got the car--great deal and great service. Kendra was great--Culver City Toyota lives up to their motto They do treat you better.

Fun to Export

by robertl555 on 10/23/2012

I purchased several New Toyota from overseas on a business basis. Money was also easy at direct transfer to Marina Del Ray Toyota from the account of my company in overseas, even and arrange to the customs procedure of export documentation, too. If you consider business basis export of the new car which is not registered and sales TAX exempt, i should need your help here absolutely. Regards, Fleet Internet Director: Brett Whiting.

Two bad experiences with just one car

by cfreilich on 10/30/2011

Back in 2009, I decided to make use of the Cash-for-Clunkers program to buy a Yaris. A new car, even with the program was a stretch for me. I had just graduated from grad school, so I planned to use Toyota's recent graduate rebate. As it turned out, the Cash-for-Clunkers program made it pretty hard to buy sub-compact Japanese cars for a while because everyone was buying them up. So when Marina Del Rey Toyota refused to budge from the MSRP on the Yaris they had in stock, I was disappointed but not terribly surprised. I ended up buying the car anyway, and was treated with the attitude of an average convenience store checkout person. Not badly, per se, but with no care at all. A week or two after I purchased the car (and presumably had allowed my old truck to be turned to scrap metal), the dealership calls me to tell me that Toyota is not honoring the Recent Graduate rebate because of the particular school I attended. They told me I needed to come in and renegotiate! This, after they gave me absolutely $0 off MSRP, remember. I told them that I'd be happy to take my old truck back if they preferred, but I wasn't going to renegotiate on a car I was overcharged for in the first place. They said they'd call me back, and never did. Until a few weeks ago, that is. I got a call from a salesperson telling me that they were interested in buying my car back from me. I was not particularly responsive to the first couple of calls, as I'm a very busy person. But the salesperson was very insistent, calling me many times. He told me they really needed my specific car for a good repeat client, and I'd be doing him a favor to come in and get an appraisal. I decided to think about it, but when I ran the numbers on what it would cost me to get into a new car to replace my Yaris, I realized it wasn't going to be worth it, especially after taxes and fees. So, the next time the salesperson called, I told him this. I also told him I lived in Long Beach and that it was a big time commitment to stop in to get the car appraised. He then told me all about the specific people who wanted the car and how important it was that he get this car for the family's daughter. So much so that he promised me a quote for my 2009 Yaris that was "significantly over market value" and that they would take a loss on this car just to keep this top-tier client. And, of course, he promised an unbeatable deal on a new replacement car, insisting that he felt I would be happy to make the deal to sell back the car and buy a new one. Today, I went back to Marina Del Rey Toyota for the first time since I purchased my Yaris. (I wasn't about to have my car serviced there after the buying experience I had had.) I gave them my car to appraise, and chose the car I would replace it with (another Yaris). Based on my research, "market value" of my 2009 vehicle is about $12,500. Of course, this is very subjective when speaking about a used car. When the salesperson came back with the "deal sheet" that included the cost of the new car minus the trade-in, the trade in appraisal given to me was $8000! Not only is this clearly not "significantly above market value" for the car, it's well below any estimate I could find online for the car, including for dealer trade-ins. Guess what the "unbeatable deal" for the replacement vehicle was? You guessed it, MSRP! So, of course, I was out of my seat to walk out the door when the salesperson asked me to wait to see the Sales Manger. I did, and when he came, he basically scolded me for expecting any deal that even vaguely resembled the one I had discussed over the phone with the salesperson who had called me. When I mentioned I was told that they were ready to take a loss on my car to keep a good long-term client, he just stared at me blankly. I couldn't get out of there fast enough, having spent many hours of research and financial calculations, in addition to an entire morning of my life driving 80 miles round trip to the dealership, all in response to what was basically a sneaky sales pitch. So, I have had two pretty terrible experiences with this dealership in the course of buying just the one car. I will not be going back.

Just terrible

by arnoldschwarz on 07/28/2010

Probably one of my worst experience so far. Stopped in on Monday night, interested in a 2011 Sienna LE. After a bit of back and forth on the numbers we agreed on the the deal. Body color I liked was not available, however told me they will have it in by tomorrow pm. Got a call in the morning that car is here, got the VIN for insurance. Stopped in at 5pm, sales guy told me there is a small problem. They got me the car in the color I wanted but with a couple of addtl options I didn't care (cross bars, towing prep etc). Overall they wanted me to pay 15$ plus tax more a month (total 500$) for a MRSP of 600. I refused and I told them that I am not willing to pay a) more because of they screwed up and b)definitely not for options I have no use for. The sales guy (Chad) was really helpful and tried to work out the issues, but the general sales manager (Kamal) walked up, no intro nothing and said either I pay more or I can forget the car. I stayed pretty calm and said lets find a solution, they should take off the crossbars and we share invoice on the towing prep etc, but he said he wouldnt do at it he would loose on the deal. I said if this is his last offer and he could even more emotional and said that I should just take it or leave....I replied that I will report this to Corporate Toyota and BBB etc thats when he totally freaked out. He told me that I should pay or leave, that Toyota doesnt care about my story as they won't believe me but him and top it, that he sells 1200 cars a year and doesnt need my business. Then he just stood up and left. Obviously Chad and his manager Tom were pretty embarrassed and tried to de-escalate the situation but Kamal would refuse to come back and talk. Obviously as you can imagine I left the dealership pretty annoyed... After a couple of hours I wrote the same as above to the GM Kevin Gray. As of time of writing this I am still waiting for either a call back or response by email.. I would be surprised if I will ever get one Meanwhile I got the car I wanted for the exact same price at Longo Toyota. My advice stay away from Marina del Rey Toyota....

2010 Prius Type IV Lease Experience

by woderwheeler on 07/20/2010

I had already driven the car and knew which options I was interested in getting. I contacted the dealer online through Edmunds.com. Mike Frasca returned my email. We talked on the phone, I told him that I had done my research and communicated the terms I was looking for. He took about an hour to research the numbers and pretty much matched everything I was looking for except for the drive off, where I needed to pitch in another $300 or so. I have bought/leased a lot of cars (5 in the past 4 years to be exact) for my parents, my family and friends. I was really surprised by the professionalism that Mike demonstrated. Eventhough, I was aware that the $300 was going to the dealership or Mike, it was worth it because I didn't have to put up with any sleazy car salesman tactics. I walked in, did my paperwork and drove off in my new Prius in under 2 hours. Overall a SUPER experience and I would seriously recommend that you touch base with Mike Frasca if you're on the market for a new Toyota.

Lackluster Customer Service

by caughenbaugh on 09/05/2009

I went in to take advantage of the "cash for clunkers" offer. I came by in the eve. I met with the sale mgr. John. He was very helpful. I wanted a Black Matrix. there was not one on the lot, but he said he could get one. we talked about terms. he said that since my credit score was 680 I would not be eligible for the "tier 1" financing of 5%. I only qualified for "tier 2" which was 7%. he also said that with the "cash for clunkers" deal, I could not get any of the incentives such as 0 APR (I don't know if this was true, or just a sales technique). so I get a call the next day from someone named Brett. he says that they have the car. I could not get there for a couple days. I came in the a.m. I was met by another salesman that tried to sell me the car. apparently, due to politics, only Brett could sell me the car. it was a little weird. So, Brett comes in and we discuss a deal and do the paperwork. I go through finance, and 4 hours later, I have my car. But a couple of days later I am going over my paperwork (I know I should have looked at it when I signed). I noticed that the APR was 8.25%, not 7%, like I was told. I called the sale mgr and he told me that since I extended my terms for more time, that changed the APR. I said , ok, that's fine if it's the truth. I then said, "don't you think I should have been told by both the saleman and finance guy that the APR would go up?" He did not agree, so I left it at that. I told him that I was happy with my car, but not happy with the experience. One main point for me is...I said to John, "you know, I don't buy cars everyday, so it's a big deal to me. But my salesman, Brett acted as if it was no big deal". that's fine, I can't expect the guy to have a personality, but I practically had to beg him to give me a handshake to congratulate me on the deal. that really upset me. I told John about this, and he said thank you, he likes to know about these things. Yet I got very little satisfaction out of telling him this. I didn't feel like he really cared either. I know that these days, especially in a big place like LA, everything is like going to Costco or Walmart (places that I don't go to). And that everything is about volume sales and very little, if any, customer service. But I am old school, and I m saddened every time I have an experience like this. And I guess all that I can do is express it in a forum like this.

Horrible Salesman and Pressure Sales

by marcuscamby on 12/04/2007

I went into buy a 2008 prius package 2. We had shook hands and agreed on a price. After speaking to the manager in the back, he came back and said that he could get me the same price but on a different color car. The saleman drives back with the new car, and after a little inspection, I discovered that it was a package 0. Basically, he had tried to make me believe that I was getting the same car but in a different color. In terms of the car buying experience itself. It was a miserable experience. They made me wait endlessly, spending 10-20 mintues sitting at the desk for each round of negotiating. At one point, the salesman wanted my deposit check before he would tell me the final price of the car. The whole process took over 4 hours. There was a lot of pressure, and as I described above, underhanded techniques that occurred. I would not recommend this dealer unless you're have something in writing and you have a strong resolve.
