Horrible...

by J Rosas on 01/28/2020

WARNING: This is an extremely long post... but reading through it will hopefully save someone from the horrendous scam that we went through! I want to start out by saying that this review is in no way reflected upon the general sales manager, Mario, whom was great & I believe is honest & ethical. I truly hope he cleans up shop & fire the dishonest individuals that are damaging the reputation of his business. Unfortunately, I can't say anything good about the salesmen & finance managers we encountered at Cumming Chevrolet. We went in to buy a reliable, economical 2nd car for my husband to get to work. We were referred to Cumming Chevy by a credit agency, claiming that they would help us get a good car at a reasonable payment. The salesmen we dealt with, namely Adrian (asst sales manager) & Erick, saw our misfortune as an opportunity for their own financial gain. Adrian was clearly the mastermind & is an extremely arrogant, rude, dishonest, unethical, shady individual & need to be fired ASAP. Of course, the finance manager, who's name I did not get (Maybe Joe), was in on it too. The "deal" we were given was SO BAD that when the GSM (Mario) found out, he allowed us to unwind the deal & bring the car back & was extremely apologetic, agreeing that his people scammed us in a major way & that ALL the men involved would be dealt with very harshly... hopefully that meant being fired. We were sold a $6000 car... a 2011 Malibu with 93000 miles... We left with a $16,000 loan on that $6000 car. Our credit isn't great, but it certainly isn't bad enough for $10,000 worth of interest on a $6000 car! We waited over 4 hours for them to "work out the deal" because as Adrian said, our credit was so bad, this is the kind of deal we would get anywhere (not true, we did get a much better, nicer, newer car elsewhere at a much better deal)... we had our 10 month old baby with us, so you can imagine his restlessness after 4 hours! By the time they were ready for us to sign the papers, we were beyond ready to get out of there. Admittedly, that's where our only fault comes in, we naively trusted that these individuals were giving us a good deal & did not ask questions or really read the paperwork. LESSON LEARNED THE HARD WAY FOR US, READ ANYTHING & EVERYTHING YOU SIGN & ASK QUESTIONS! At home, we looked over the paperwork... what's this extra nearly $4000 charge under optional additions?! The charge was written in only as "First extended". We found out this was an optional extended warranty, which we did not agree to & was never mentioned to us AT ALL! Upon further research, I found that this is a known dealership scam... they add in hidden additional options & "pad" the deal by extending the terms so that the consumer doesn't notice the charges. This gets them an extra commission... screwing over the consumer for their own financial gain. But $4000 warranty for a $6000 car?? I called an auto fraud attorney confirmed that this was a fraudulent scam. The attorney instructed me to call the dealership & advise them to cancel the warranty & remove it from the contract. I called Adrian & told him to remove the charge from our contract. He said he didn't know if it could be removed & he would talk to finance & call back. I advised of my contact with an attorney & told him that this CAN be cancelled & that he WILL remove it from the contract! He called me back 2 minutes after hanging up & said "you can just bring the car back!" Perfect! Not long after, I received another call from Mario wanting to know what was going on. Apparently he caught wind of it somehow (THANK GOD!) & wanted the details so he could take proper action. I'm glad that God was able to use us to uncover this scam & hopefully prevent anyone else from falling victim to the same. I wonder how many others Adrian has done this to & I hope the dealership will pull his other recent contracts to ensure there are no other victims.
