Purchase of new Toyota Tundra CrewMax

by tonys8 on 08/27/2013

I recently decided to buy a new truck and compared a F-150, Silverado, Dodge RAM and Toyota Tundra. Phase 1 was to determine which vehicle and then Phase 2 was to select a dealer. I found that the responsiveness of Richardson Toyota was a key factor in helping me select the Toyota tundra CrewMax. In selecting a dealer I looked for price services offered and location. Again the responsiveness and willingness of Richardson Toyota to work towards a win-win led me to select them even though they were not the cheapect option available to me. Matthew M. was by far the most responsive sales reps of the 20 plus dealers who made contact with me and this drove my decision.

Honest Mistake?

by Swimdude on 01/03/2013

I asked for a quote from this dealership and 4 other dealerships through Edmond's. I received quotes from all 5 dealerships. This dealership appeared to be the best, however, when I went to the dealership they said that they had quoted me a price for a Stripped down version of the Toyota RAV4 we were asking for. I specifically stated Limited version of RAV4 in my quote request. We discussed the issue, they said it was an honest mistake and provided a Photo Copied portion of an Invoice as proof. However, the Invoice they provided had no VIN number on it and was only about 2/3rds of a normal Dealer invoice for a vehicle. These people called me several times at my home after I left to see if I might take their offer. I will never step foot in this dealership again and have told everyone I know about my experience.

BEWARE OF [non-permissible content removed] at TOYOTA OF RICHARDSON!!!

by stephintexas on 07/18/2012

Wednesday, July 11, 2012 -- I stop by after work to see if they had a Scion FRS and sure enough they did. Spoke with Sam Mansfield, Scion Sales Manager. Nice guy, but not very knowledgeable about their products, especially the technology aspects of the Toyota and Scion. Strange, considering he was a manager. Sam was a very nice, laid back, no nonsense guy. Husband met me up there and test drove the Scion-FRS, which is a cool car, but very bare bones on the inside and scant on technology, compared to other cars in it's class and below. We decided to look at the Prius C and later, decided to purchase. The painstaking process took nearly four hours and our brains were fried and by the time we made it back to the finance department, the dealership was closing. After signing all the various paperwork, the upsell was in full swing. My husband told Morgan, the finance person, from the very beginning that he did NOT want an extended warranty. For a brief time, she left it alone and later asked "What if I could get you an extended warranty without you having to pay anything more?" I replied, "Sure, I'll take it if it doesn't cost anything extra!" Following my reply, Morgan walked out of the office and came back to say that she was going to give us Gap Insurance, Clear Coat and a 7-Year Extended Warranty for no additional cost. He asked her how she got that done and her response was "I'm very persistent." Originally we were quoted approximately $500/month for our car payment. After she said that she was giving us all this free stuff, she tried to talk me into bimonthly, automatic checking account withdrawals that amounted to $250.00 every two weeks. She went on to say that we'd pay the car off earlier by doing this and never mentioned that we'd end up paying $3,000 additional which was for all the FREE stuff she said she was throwing in for us (Extended warranty, clear coat and Gap Insurance). Fast forward to this morning after a night of rest and access to a calculator, he realizes that this lady basically scammed him into agreeing for everything he told her that he did not want in the first place. He called the dealership and asked for the person in charge, who never bothered to call him back. I called them approximately three hours later and spoke to Jeff, the Sales Manager. He called my husband and said that we could come back in and go through all the contract crap again, which we were not willing to do. After we didn't show up to pick up the Prius C, he called and my husband told him that we'd take our business elsewhere and he said, "Alright." Having a customer service background, this is no way to treat a customer. Most businesses/dealerships would do whatever it took to make things right for their customers and gain their trust. NOT Toyota of Richardson! Our sales person, Sam Mansfield, didn't even bother picking up the phone to call either. Apparently this dealership doesn't need anymore business and if they treat a new customer this way, I can't help but wonder how they'd treat you once they had your money?

Honest and straightforward

by mikecopenhaver on 05/29/2012

Car buying normally ranks up there with visits to the dentist in my book but these guys were great! Straightforward, friendly and dare I say honest. Jeremy Karlovich and Martyn Walsh provided me with a very pleasant and satisfying experience purchasing my new vehicle.

Run dont just walk away

by tornot on 03/20/2012

Do not believe the ratings on dealerrater or cardealercheck. They refused to post my review since it was negative. This would explain why they have close to 5 stars on those bias review sites. So I contacted the dealer about a truck. but when I arrived for a test drive, the truck was sold. A week later they call me and tell me they have the car back. I purchased the truck with an agreement to fix some body damage and took it in a week later for the repairs. Upon picking the truck up, I notice the repairs were not done correctly as well additional damage on the car. On top of that, they wrote racial slurs on my paperwork. Take your money somewhere else!!!! You have been warned. Run dont just walk away!!!

I'd go back

by dck on 01/01/2012

They were reasonably responsive to my inquiries. They use the tactic of keeping you waiting a long time ("holding you hostage") while they work on a deal. I have bought 2 cars there in the past. This time, they did not have the colors and options that I wanted, but I will return in the future when I'm ready to buy again.

Sales People insult Customer

by manishkasotiya on 12/15/2011

I called before going to Toyota of Richardson on a highlander that was showing online. They lied just to get me in, as I found later they already had deposit on it. They showed me another one (way out of my budget) which I only agreed to look at and thats it. We started talking numbers as I wanted to find out the the value of my trade-in. As I realized that even after their best offer, it was too expensive for me, I wanted to leave. But Mr. Harmon Goins in pre-owned would not let me go without insulting me, my wife with my 9 month old getting annoyed during this conversation. He played guilt angle with me and insulted me so much for a sign on a piece of paper that I did to say that I would buy it. He would not even let me leave though I promised to call back once my kid settles down, without insulting me. It grew so much that fellow customers yelled at him for his misbehavior and walked out of the showroom. We walked out and had to wait outside in wind and cold for them to get my car back so that we could leave. I guess when higher management sensed that they might loose more customers as we left, they came running (Mr. Cesar Sotelo and their director of operations) apologizing for Mr. Goins behavior and offering us a better deal. I left at that time feeling humiliated and agonized from Toyota of Richardson. They did end up offering us a good deal just because of this episode and apologizing several times. I went back later to accept their offer and apology. I am not going back again ever though as I know that Toyota of Richardson lacks standards that can prevent horrible people such as Mr. Harmon Goins getting into the dealership and torment potential customers. Mr. Harmon Goins still works at Toyota of Richardson. Apparently this dealership values horrible employees more than potential polite customers.

Purchased a vehicle in May 2009

by bigtexas on 06/09/2009

I spent the better part of April and May working with different dealers in Texas in my effort to buy a Toyota Highlander. I live in central Texas and ended up buying from Toyota of Richardson. There was a big difference in dealing with the different dealers. Initially I approached my 3-4 Austin area dealers as I wanted to buy locally. There were too many games being played both face to face and through email. After numerous bold face lies from the local dealers I decided to expand my search. I chose 3 dealers in Houston, 2 in San Antonio and 4 in the DFW area, and a couple in smaller markets. Again I saw similar tactics from the majority of the dealers. Looking back I interfaced with over 15 dealers and looked at the spec's of 40+ variations of the model that I was looking trying to acquire. I was very frustrated with the Toyota network and gave myself a week to make a deal come together otherwise I would go to my second choice car, a Lincoln MKX. Ultimately I selected a dealer from SA and Toyota of Richardson to try and put a deal together. During this period one individual that I was dealing with stood out. Jeff Skolnick of Toyota of Richardson. Jeff worked hard over this period to earn my trust, help me find the vehicle loaded the way I wanted it. And ultimately was able to work with his boss to put together a fair deal in the time frame that I set as a deadline. I can't speak to the dealership overall but Jeff Skolnick and his boss Mike McDonald worked straight up. Jeff worked to both protect his organization's interest and to be my advocate. Jeff was clear on what they could do and couldn't do so we weren't wasting each other's time. Jeff was extremely responsive and was excellent as juggling my requests and presenting his differently loaded vehicles (to meet my requests) against a number of deals he was working at the same time. Based on Jeff's consistency to respond, one would have thought that Jeff was dedicated to me 100% and put other customers on the back burner. After meeting him in person and watching him work, I could see that he was excellent at multitasking and staying on top of the different transactions. And to be honest it looks like he enjoys his job. We put the deal together, Jeff got the car from the port, outfitted it the way we agreed, took delivery on it, prepped it up and had it ready with the correct paperwork when I showed up. No games, missing information, etc. Just a straight forward transaction. I showed up and we were done within approximately an hour. It was almost a non-event as I was prepared to show up and find all kinds of issues in getting the deal completed. This didn't happen and it went smoothly. The finance people presented all the sell ups but did not try to pressure anything. I was actually surprised that the finance group didn't try and sell me their financing. I came with 50% cash and an extremely attractive financing package. I think they realized there wasn't much to offer against my financial arrangement. I would strongly recommend working with Jeff. Do your research and lay it out where you are will to be from a price. Jeff will quickly tell you if he can make it happen. My comment is that Toyota is tougher to deal with than the traditional dealers. In the south there is Toyota, Toyota's distributer (Gulf States Toyota), and the dealer. All of them have to get their share of the pie. It appears that Toyota get's the lion's share, then the distributor and finally the dealer. This provides the dealer with less ability to negotiate because of the distributor's interest. If you are in the market for a Toyota vehicle, I would suggest going to Jeff. I am pretty sure I would not have bought from Toyota if it weren't for working with Jeff.

BEWARE, DO NOT HAVE SERVICE HERE

by tarugs on 12/12/2008

I have a 2008 Limited Toyota Highlander and went in for an oil change and tire rotation service. This is my first time going to this location as it is near my work. Upon arrival at the service department, I was told that I needed a major maintenance service as my truck already has 15,000 miles. I was not sure what are needed to be done on my truck as I cannot find anywhere on the Net and in the Highlander manual list of 15k maintenance services. Since the service advisor said it was required then I agreed to have it done. Good thing that I had their service shuttle take me back to my office as it took 5 hours for the service to be done. I demanded to have breakdown of services and parts replacement done on my truck. There are a number of services listed on the bill and there is really no way of telling if some of the services were indeed done. So I checked the one that I check, which is the cabin air filter replacement, which was included in my bill. Lo and behold the cabin filter is filthy with leaves, dirt and all. Obviously it was not replaced. I was told that the glove compartment was locked so the cabin air filter cannot be replaced. When I asked why was it checked off in the list and charged to my bill, they simply said it was a mistake. They eventually replaced the filter and the service advisor was very rude and was speaking to me in a high tone of voice as if I was the one at fault. I have been to another Toyota Service center in the DFW area (Plano) and Richardson has a very "unfriendly" atmosphere. I would not recommend having service done at this location, there are a lot of other Toyota service centers in the DFW area you can go to.

by paploo on 09/30/2008

This is an old episode but thought i would share this with others. We bought our 03 Highlander from them. After much haggling on the price we settled on the $ amount and the rate of interest. they gave me a monthly payment number which seemed fine. Once we saw the Finance guy we started getting hassled for the extra warranty and other add on's which we refused but the guy kept pestering us. If this car needs extra warranty then its not a reliable car and i dont want to buy it aat all, thats what i told him. Finally the guy goes "just so we can all be friends i will throw in the etch guard and tire protection for free". I sign on the dotted line after making sure the monthly payment is the same as before. I go home to discover the finance guy had added in $1000 for the "free items" and reduced the rate by 1%, fudged with the numbers to make sure the monthy payment was the same. This would be great for someone what wants to pay the exact amount every month and not for someone who wants to make extra payments every month and pay the car off early. This happened on a saturday night and sunday they are cloesed. I had to budge my way in on Monday thru the [violative content deleted]. The finance guy said i cant do anything as the papers are gone thru. after much yellling, screaming , cussing, getting managers involved i managed them to agree on their "mistake" and redo the paper work. BUT they agreed on doing this only if i gave them the blank feedback/survey that Toyota would eventually send me. i could not believe they had the audacity to do this and mark themselves up as execllent after screwing customerss over. [violative content deleted] ...are there any other words left to describe them. Rot in Hell.

They Buy Water Damaged Autos from Auction for Resell

by texasrob on 07/24/2008

Beware they sell water damaged/flood cars from auction before checking them out. They sold me a 2 year old low mileage Tundra that has apparently been in water at some point possibly up to the door handles. The smell was unbearable and they have tried everything to get rid of it shy of buying it back. It smelled like someone had actually died in the truck after the hot Texas sun hit it for a few days. Of course they told me the smell would go away and it was because the carpets were cleaned and weren't allowed to dry properly. Smell didn't get better, got worse. After about two weeks of back and forth with them on a solution they gave me the offer of trading for another truck on their lot or to have new carpet installed. They wouldn't even consider a refund. By this time my trade had already been sold or traded so there was no getting it back either. I ended up having to purchase a more expensive truck than I had planned on just to be done with the whole thing. On the second truck they had me over a barrel on price and I had no choice but to get an attorney or just pay the difference. I figured it was going to cost money either way so I took the less painful route. The used car manager is about as [violative content deleted] as they come. The assistant general manager can't make a decision and stick to it and the GM over the dealership won't return calls to unhappy customers. I learned a lesson but hopefully you can learn from my mistake. Tell your friends! Walk... NO RUN as fast as you can!!!
