Stay away

by Rob90gt on 01/10/2017

Terrible, by far the worst experience I have ever had buying a new car! They transferred my plates from the car I was driving that I didn't trade in. Only reason they had the info was for the owner loyalty rebate. Then they were in no rush to fix the problem. Took them 3 days to re register my other car. Plus I got screwed on the price in which I was lied to so they could complete the sale. Normally I do my research and shop around but was unable to due to my current work schedule. I have bought plenty of new cars in the past and have never had issues like this. Stay away.

My first Volkswagen purchase

by KelCol518 on 08/25/2015

I recently purchased a brand new Jetta at Scott. I was planning on a used car but my salesperson got me into a brand new car that's completely in my budget. My salesman, John was so nice and helpful. There wasn't any pressure here that I have experienced with other dealerships. I can't say enough good things about Scott Volkswagen. From the look of the Showroom to the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff. I'm a Scott Volkswagen customer for life!

If I could give MINUS stars, I would

by vwbuyer2003 on 12/09/2013

I have had a SEVERE problem with a local dealer, Scott VW in East Providence, RI. I went to the dealer to test drive a used 2003 Jetta TDI wagon that was advertised locally. The salesman was unprofessional from the beginning (he was more interested in playing with his cell phone), but I was very interested in the car, so I asked to go on a test drive in it anyway. During the initial viewing of the car there were several problems, but it was during the drive that I had the worst experience of my LIFE! Upon trying to merge onto the interstate, the hood of the car flew up into the windshield and completely obscured my view of the road except for about 2 inches at the base of the dash. It went so far back that it left paint on the windsheild and crumpled both corners of the hood, ripping off the piston used to hold the hood up in the open position! I could have been KILLED and the salesman was more interested in the sale of a newer car! His actual comment to me was, "I guess we won't be selling this one, do you want to look at the 2014?" The manager of the dealership didn't even ask if I was OK and the only reason he even came out to see me is because I asked someone to get him so he would know what happened! The only person at the entire dealership that was even remotely concerned with my well being was the lady who worked in the parts department that the manager asked to sit with me when he thought I was getting hysterical. I have never been horrified by any experience as I have at this dealer.

Wonderful Experience

by fszaba on 10/03/2013

I rarely write online reviews, but felt I had to in this exceptionally wonderful case. Last weekend I purchased a 2010 Jetta TDI, (manual transmission, Black with sunroof) from Scott VW. It was being sold as a VW Certified Pre-owned vehicle, 3 years old, with 38K miles. I live in NY State and had been searching for exactly this vehicle for almost a month without any luck. (apparently black, manual, sunroof is a rare combination for used TDI's.) That is how I ended up expanding my search to include Rhode Island. The car was originally listed as Not having a sunroof, but I called just to make sure. Chris, the business development manager, said he would check the car and let me know ASAP. He emailed back in 20 minutes with a photo he just took from his phone, confirming that it did indeed have a sunroof. In a total of just two emails each, plus two phone calls, we were able to negotiate a great price ( almost $1000 lower than the original listed price), arrange all the financial details, worked out the logistics for the out-of-state sale (tax, transit plates, etc), secure the vehicle with a small deposit, and arrange for a test drive. They understood the concerns that are faced by someone buying a car from a distance, and did everything ppossible to make me feel confident to make the 5.5 hour drive to Providence. Chris did not hesitate to put, In Writing, the actual final negotiated price, all guarantees concerning the VW CPO program, the guaranteed hold for three days, an statement that the deposit is fully refundable if I decided not to purchase, etc. He was candid, professional, and very forthcoming with all information. I never felt as if I had to drag action or information from him, as I have felt in the past from other car dealers. Rather he seemed to pre-empt all of my concerns and fully address them, in writing, even before I asked. I am a good judge of character, and can say that he is a man of highest integrity. Having secured the car with a deposit, I was then assigned to a salesman, named Dennis. At the dealership, I found the car to be in even better condition than had been described; and looking much better than the photos could capture. There was literally not a scratch on the vehicle, the paint looked like new, engine purred, handling was flawless, brakes and tires were more than 80%, interior condition was like new. The paperwork did take quite a while, but that was because I ultimately decided to finance through the VW dealership as they were able to offer me 1.9% financing on a CPO special that was taking place. In the end the dealership, through Dennis's help, also through in several nice 'extras' such as trunk cargo mat, full set of rubber monster mats, ipod audio accessory cord, fill-up of diesel fuel, and extended the vehicle's subscription to Sirius radio. They also offered to get me a free valet key, which is absent from the vehicle, but which is not required under the terms of VW's CPO program. All of this was thrown in after the fact, and was not part of the original negotiation. When was the last time anyone reading this had that kind of experience shopping for a used car? I've had the vehicle for a week, and so far I am extremely happy with it. It's my first time owning a diesel, and some aspects of this are new to me. I have been in contact with the Dennis three times this past week, and he has happily answered all of my questions, and sought the advise of the relevant person to address all of my questions expertly. He also informed me that since my car had 38K miles on it, they had already performed the 40K service maintenance on at the time of certification. That means a lot, because the 40K service is 'the big one' that usually costs like $500. And it is also nice to know when my next one is due, and what should be done to continue with the normal recommended maintenance schedule. Plus, they are going to send me all of the vehicle's maintenance records of what was done to the vehicle as part of the certification process, when they send me the valet key. I have no reason to doubt that they will hold true on this, given all of the other extras they threw in with this deal. I do have to stress here that for me it is not the 'extras', but rather the honesty and integrity that make me feel so good about this deal with Scott VW. I have bought 9 used cars in my life, most from certified dealers, but a couple from snake-oil-salesmen (especially in the early days), and this was by far the best experience that I've had to date. They did not over-represent the condition of the vehicle, they facilitated a smooth long-distance price negotiation and purchase, at a great price, they stood by their word on every detail, there were absolutely no hidden charges or surprise last-minute fees, they threw in a bunch of perks, and they have followed up to make see how my car is working out and continue to be there to take care of all my questions and concerns. Is there anything more than one could ask from a car-buying experience? I sure can't think of any. Their showroom was very clean and neat, and decorated in a cool 'old-timey', 'fun-in-the-sun' VW theme...complete with classic bugs/busses, wooden surf-boards, and antique gas pumps. We were offered coffee and free iPads/wifi while waiting. If I had to think hard to find a single criticism during the whole experience, it is that the person who detailed the vehicle while we were finalizing the deal probably should not have put Armor-all on the clutch pedal. Quite slippery, even for this seasoned MT driver, but at least it was shiny!

MISREPRESENTED, DISHONEST, AND A WAIST OF TIME

by swolfgang on 05/08/2013

Not one to write reviews, but felt I had to share this story.... My husband and I are from NYC and have been looking for a year old Touareg TDI Sport with low millage, which is not an easy feet. This will explain why we spent almost 8 hours traveling back and for from Road Island to Scott Volkswagen in order to pick up a 2012 Touareg TDI Sport with 12,000 miles on it. We found the car on line and discussed it's condition in detail and made a deal via phone and managed to get up to them 5 days later. Upon arriving they had us sign and close the deal and told us they where going to get the car filled with gas while we did so. We thought great how nice. Then we asked to see the car........ Electrical problems with the trunk...... A broken piece of plastic hanging off the right front bumper..... Very damaged inside consul and stained ceiling.... (I know it is used, but this was wear and tear of 5 years plus not 1...we have bought many used cars in the past) And last but not least 10% more on the milage. 13,000 not 12..... To say the least we where very upset, but decided to see if they would fix the damaged parts and we would except the car. We just could not understand how they could not disclose this information before we came, but felt like we had driven this far and we knew how hard it was to find one these SUVs. But they would not fix anything, they just wanted to offer another $400.00 off the car, so we ended up having to walk out. No apology, no offer for gas or even a measly lunch while we waited and waited for them to make a decision on weather or not they would fix anything. But all stories should have a happy ended. After being so disappointed we ended up with a 2013 Touareg TDI with 2,500 miles on it for only 2k more!!! By the way did I mention it is a LUX!! How do you like that!!!

Unprofessional and Rude...not worth your time.

by des11 on 05/20/2012

Chris the salesman was polite, but Jamie the General Manager was very dismissive. I will never do business with them...ever. They also stated that they would charge an extra $1000 dollars on top of the already arranged price, after I told them that I wanted to pay with cash...shady business practices...Stay away!

Scott VW was great!

by davidlm3 on 10/22/2011

Purchased a car from Scott VW last week. I was hesitant to purchase a car from a dealer in a different state and did not want to deal with registration, title etc. or the headaches that dealers typically create during a car purchase. They were great. No lies, no games. They followed through on everything they said and the Tiguan was delivered on time and in perfect condition. They took car of registration and title. Overall the purchase was the best I have ever experienced. Will definitely go to them again for my next VW.
