Deserves no stars

by Kate.G on 08/15/2018

They are not inviting or welcoming at all. The receptionist just stared at us, never even said hello and we immediately felt like we were not welcome. The salesman, James, was rude and short with my husband. We left because James shut down any opportunity of doing a deal with us with no explanation. He couldn’t get us out the door fast enough! We went down the street to another Jeep dealership and was treated with the utmost respect, and while we still couldn’t make a deal, we were treated like humans and explained how to move forward on our own, in order to get in the car we want in the future. Will NEVER go back here, horrible customer service.

Mike Kennedy..a great salesman!

by Michael on 08/03/2018

Mike Kennedy just sold us our new Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited from East hills Jeep. He was so fair. This was an easy purchase, mostly because we were so pleased with his knowledge of our new vehicle and quite frankly...he had important qualities...he was honorable, knew the car and we felt we could trust him. This was not our first purchase or lease of a new car, but Mike surpassed other salesman. We would certainly recommend him and East Hills Jeep to friends and relatives.

Honest, easy and a pleasant lease purchase experience.

by MPF on 04/27/2018

I was deciding on buying a used car or leasing a new one but of my two short visits @ East Hills Jeep it was so pleasant I had to leave some feedback. Two gentlemen stood out and made the entire vist really fun, NOT TO MENTION I ROAD AWAY WITH A BEAUTY, 2018 GRAND CHEROKEE LIMITED. First off Ryan Fernandez the sales and lease consultant was very helpful with my decision to buy or lease. Pleasant , friendly and helpful. My wife and I made a decision within an hour of our stay and was on our way with a new 2018 lease. Thank you Ryan! The lease financial manager Arnie Price was too much and if I wasn't buying I would have happily went there just for his company. He is honest quick to give a straight answer and doesn't BS. Thanks Arnie for taking good care of my wife and I. I will look forward to our next purchase. Thank you kindly! Best, Mike

Go see Adam for a great buying experience

by Nikeguy1129 on 04/01/2017

I was in the market for a used car that was reliable for me. I called a few dealers and wanted pricing before I came in, only dealership called me back!! I dealt with Adam and he was a real pro. He did what he said he was going to do and he gained my trust. His manager Steve was great and helped us put the numbers in order. Now I'm driving my new used car as we joked about. I am very happy I purchased from East Hills!

Research first, stand up against upsell tactics and be prepared to walk

by limom1 on 04/30/2015

We were referred to this dealership via the Costco Auto Program. New to the program and its practices, we had read (and heard from friends who used it with other car makes) that it was a relatively easy way to get a "haggle" price without the hassle of actual haggling. Prior to visiting East Hills, I spoke briefly with Ed Whiffen on the phone about the Costco Program and East Hills own online specials for the 2015 Town & Country. He was deliberately vague on getting into any specifics, but presented a scenario that he and his team were here to help and give us the best possible deal (but, naturally, we had to physically go there to discuss anything more specific than that). East Hills' strongest asset is Vanessa Velasquez, a front desk receptionist, who was very nice and professional to communicate with via email about the availability of the Costco Program sales managers and who greeted us personally upon our arrival to the showroom. She then brought over Steve DeSetto, who seemed very nice, schmoozed a bit, and then quickly arranged to pawn us off to one of his salesmen for test drive and, ultimately, pricing discussions. We were upfront with Steve that, pending a good test drive, we were highly motivated to lease the Town & Country quickly as I am now three weeks away from due date with baby #3 and we were hoping for a no-nonsense and smooth experience. We also brought a copy of an online ad from the East Hills website for a great leasing special on the van ($998 down, no bank fee, $99/month for 24 months/10K miles per year, plus dealer/tax/DMV fees), and mentioned that we would be interest in discussing all options to settle in on the best numbers. We would learn later that evening that the fine print on this particular deal included such an impossible combination of qualifying for particular discounts (military, loyalty trade-in, etc.) that our best pricing point would be nowhere close to that, however Steve did not mention any of that initially (when I'm sure he was keenly aware). Strike one, lack of transparency. We were made to wait over ten minutes for the salesman, Stan, to introduce us to the car and escort us on a test drive. It was a nice evening, so I didn't so much mind the wait, but having previously read the Edmunds-published "Confessions of a Car Salesman" (written by a staff member who went undercover as a car salesman for three months; a must-read for any consumer, found under the "Car Research" Tips & Advice section) I question the motivations behind any delays in service because of their notoriety as tactics to maintain control over the customer and wear them down. (Not to mention, at 9 months pregnant, I'm on borrowed time to get anything done.) The waiting game would continue after the test drive when it came time to sit down and talk numbers (the back-and-forth "let me see what my manager can do" charade). Strike two, unnecessary delays. As for the salesman, Stan, he was very nice and knowledgeable about the car. I would have appreciated a bit more presentation on the car and its features, but he readily answered any and all specific questions that my husband or I had about it. The test drive was the best experience of the night. We then returned to the showroom -- which was clean and presented well overall, where we were offered refreshments (much appreciated), and where I regrettably learned that the lock on the women's bathroom door is broken. Then, for all the pleasantries and schmoozing leading up to the numbers discussion, reality soon set in. We sat down at a desk and were asked about what sort of terms we were looking for. We explained that we were open to hearing some options, but primarily interested in a comparison of the East Hills online special terms to equivalent Costco terms. I indicated that I didn't care about vehicle color, going so far as to point out I'd be happy to take whatever color they had excess inventory of. Stan did give us a heads up that the East Hills online special included a bunch of specialized discounts that we didn't qualify for, so we wouldn't be able to go off of those numbers and would be dealing with some higher amount. (Again, this was the first mention of that, even though Ed Whiffen had the opportunity to clarify that on the phone in previous weeks and Steve DeSetto had the opportunity to clarify that upon our arrival that evening. Shame on us for naivete re: the fine print, but shame on them for evasive tactics.) Fine, though, we thought -- how much higher could the offer to us really be? Over three fold, that's how much. I can tell you right now the moment that I changed from a highly motivated buyer to a lost buyer and future customer of East Hills and cost only played a small role in that. Nevermind the actual numbers for a moment, I was virulently offended and turned off by the attempt to upsell us from the Touring to Touring-L model under the questionably truthful claim that they only had Touring-L models available (and the unavoidably higher MSRP that comes along with them). If this was really true, why did no one know that or disclose it to us before that point in time? And if this was really true, why does their online inventory record indicate otherwise, to the tune of 13 of them in stock? (I did question this, and Stan gave an explanation that the online inventory includes cars on order -- but ought we believe that all 13 Touring class vans "in stock" are really "on order" and no one knew to tell us until then? If it looks like duck and walks like one, it's probably a duck. This explanation looked and walked like BS.) Strike three, deliberate upselling tactics. Additional attempts at upselling included talking us out of 7,500 annual mileage options (which, while a poor idea for many, would be fine for me as a stay-at-home mom with a secondary car for solo trips) and extended lease duration terms. Once we came down firm about having no interest in the Touring-L, Stan was somehow able to come back with numbers from his manager on the Touring class (that's convenient), but by then the damage was done to our good faith attempt to buy a car without hassle. Stan and Steve must have sensed this, too, because they didn't even try to make a better deal thereafter. Moreover, the "deal" for the Costco Auto Program was underwhelming -- a pittance of a price concession compared to what even the most novice of a negotiator ought to be able to achieve (we were there last night, a day away from month's end, when dealerships are usually most motivated to bring up their sales numbers and gaining extra kick backs from the manufacturer, etc.) The numbers didn't even match that which I've seen on Edmunds for average purchase prices. Needless to say, we left East Hills empty handed and under the impression that the sales team tried their hand at taking advantage of the desperation of a sedan-driving couple expecting their third baby any time now. It's an unfortunate conclusion, particularly because we had found Stan to be a consummate professional and friendly salesman. However, our experience led us to conclude that the showroom tactics at East Hills are clearly aligned with the notorious behaviors that dealerships in general are known and dreaded for by consumers. My two-star rating is being kind. Vanessa Velasquez was lovely and Stan provided us with a good test drive experience. Other than that, we were less than impressed. We were insulted.

Excellent first car purchase experience

by Duncan25 on 03/25/2015

Ann DeMayo was my sales rep and proved to be a truly professional and respectful resource for my first car purchasing experience. I was in the market for a Wrangler and went to a few dealerships to check out multiple vehicles. East Hills had the truck I was looking for at the right price. Ann and the rest of the staff were pleasant and made my experience enjoyable. I NEVER felt overwhelmed and was NEVER pushed into making a quick decision. Buying a car is the second most important purchase in a persons life (behind buying a house) and the staff at East Hills made this process as simple and worry free as can be. I would highly recommend this dealership and Ann to my friends and family for their future car purchases.

Customer service beats conveniency

by MrHolmes on 12/09/2014

I recommend this dealership, sales staff is friendly ,they know what they're doing, my salesman Gary Candullo was very cool, a lil hyper but I think it's was because of all the coffee he drinks lol. There was zero pressure when buying my car which counts for a lot when in a car dealership. This was my first time purchasing a vehicle through a dealership and he made the process easy and understandable. I was recommended to this Long Island dealership and I live in the Bronx, trust when I say the trip is worth it. I'm sure everyone can agree that friendly customer service beats conveniency when buying a car so East Hills is the place you want to go.
