False advertising, deceptive practices, avoid!!!

by big_blue79 on 06/04/2016

Believe the terrible Yelp reviews and BEWARE - this dealership has been sued (2013) and settled (2014) for deceptive practices, including false advertising. They tried false advertising shenanigans with me, earning a complaint to the state of NJ. They try to tack the cost of rebates onto the advertised price despite assurances on the phone that the price is the price and not subject to rebates, and despite the clear language of the disclaimer that the rebates are not part of the advertised price. Shady, shady people. And rude to boot! My wife and I were interested in a 2013 Volkswagen GTI with 44,564 miles listed for $12,500 at 21st Century Auto Group (21 CAG). The sales ad, appearing on the 21 CAG website, Cars.com, Edmunds.com, and Autotrader.com, had the same listed price and details (all advertisements saved from the webpages as of May 27, 2016 and attached). None of the advertisements noted that the offer was subject to any caveats. On the 21 CAG website, there is no fine print or other indication that the advertised price was subject to any other terms. There is a disclaimer link, however, and I checked on that (disclaimer language screenshot attached) before going to the dealership. The relevant language is: "Internet Pricing! In order to receive any New and Used car price listed on this site, the buyer must present the internet advertising including the listed price of the desired vehicle to our Sales Manager prior to purchase. It is this site's intent and policy to be in good-faith compliance with state laws regulating automotive advertising." ... "NOTE: Prices do not include additional fees and costs of closing, including government fees and taxes, any finance charges, any dealer documentation fees, any emissions testing fees or other fees." ... "College students who have graduated during the last 12 months are eligible for a $795 College Grad Rebate. Active Miiitary Personnel and Military Veterans are eligible for a $745 Military Rebate. You may also be eligible for a 21st Century Auto Group Customer Loyalty Rebate of $995 if you purchased a vehicle with us during the previous 3 years. Sales Price may not be combined with any other special offers and rebates may not be combined." ... "Any advertised price must be financed through 21st Century Auto Group." My wife and I scheduled a visit and test drive on the evening of May 26, 2016, borrowing a friend's car to do so. We presented the $12,500 advertisement up front with the sales rep, who agreed that was the price. We said we'd finance through the dealership, thus meeting all the requirements to receive the advertised price. As we sat down to hash out numbers, the sales rep said that the advertised price was subject to obtaining all 3 of the rebates - college, military, loyalty - otherwise the price was - $2,500 more. After a great deal of argument, including a second sales rep coming over to take over as the first one drove us to start to walk out, they could not point to the specific language of the advertisement that stated the price was subject to the rebates. Instead, Diego (who was kind but otherwise part of this obvious fraud) pointed out that at $12,500 they would be selling at a loss. I pointed out it's not my problem - they clearly advertised a price and fraudulently said that price was not, in fact, the price, or that it was subject to several rebates. Nothing in their own language on their own website made it so. Specifically galling is the fact - confirmed by their own disclamer - that 1) a sales price may not be combined with rebates, and 2) rebates may not be combined. So even if their advertisement stated that the price was subject to rebates or other offers - and it clearly does not - the language of the disclaimer would bely that claim as offers cannot be combined. Either way, they are lying and deceptive and cannot be trusted.

Bought a 2012 BMW 750Li Call John Garcia for the VERY BEST CUSTOMER SERVICE

by russ4246 on 03/20/2016

IF YOU ARE PUCHASING A CAR FROM 21st Century Auto Group in New Jersey ASK FOR MY SALES ADVISOR “JOHN GARCIA”, HIS CUSTOMER SERVICE AND HELP IN THE PURCHASE PROCESS IS OUTSTANDING!!!! John Carlo aka John Garcia was the best when it came to handling all the purchasing details of my 7th BMW. You definitely want speak with JOHN when you contact 21st Century Auto Group. Please note: After searching nationwide, this was my 4th BMW I was buying online “sight unseen” solely relying exclusively on John Garcia at 21st Century and Jacob the Service Advisor at BMW OF SPRINGFIELD next door to fully inspect the car inside and out for me for any blemishes, scratches, dents, dings, interior damage, body damage, or mechanical issues. And then in the end have the car shipped by car carrier to my Rockville, MD home. Both of these gentlemen took great care of me, especially John Garcia at 21st Century Auto Group. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE BMW s. They are INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCE CARS and INCREDIBLY FUN TO DRIVE. At 21st Century Auto Group, I was buying my dream car a 2012 BMW 750Li xDrive INDIVIDUAL COMPOSITION MODEL in Deep Green Metallic w/ Amaro Leather Interior & Honey Walnut Wood Trim. It’s a gorgeous car! The Original MSRP was $118,445. I purchased the car with 42K miles for $39,000 EVEN WHILE “NOT” QUALIFYING FOR $2,500 WORTH OF THEIR STUPID SILLY NON-REBATES THAT THE VAST MAJORITY OF BUYERS “DO NOT” QUALIFY FOR. 21st Century Auto Group SHOULD DO AWAY WITH THOSE STUPID REBATES AS THEY REALLY DO IRRITATE THE HELL OUT OF CUSTOMERS AND “DRIVE DOWN” THEIR ONLINE REPUTATION. While John Garcia was incredibly helpful in the purchase process of my new 2012 BMW 750Li xDrive, my initial experience with another Sales Advisor “Justice” WAS NOT GOOD. For whatever reason JUSTICE WOULD NOT GIVE ME THE TIME OF DAY. He was too busy with other “unknown customers” walking thru the door than to deal with someone like me trying to purchase a $40,000 car over the phone. John Garcia is a WINNER!!!!, CALL JOHN. I do not usually write these things but this place deserves it! I loved every single thing about this place! From the service all the way to the eye catching art on the wall. Satisfied Customer

by Bluedove95 on 06/23/2015

Went to purchase the Porsche Cayenne, but unfortunately the one I was interested in was no longer available. My Husband and I made it perfectly clear we were not interested in a lot of "salesman haggling" and our sales associate Justice Hodges was very respectful of the that. We were not pressured to look at other vehicles, we were left alone to look freely. Due to the lack of pressure (which is a turn off for me), we did find something else we were interested in and made the purchase. We gave our bottom line and Justice made it happen. I am happy to say we are very pleased with our purchase and our experience.

har Susha from Trenton NJ February 20, 2015 This place was wonderful, I've been to a couple different dealerships before, by the phone call, talking to Roland who eventually become my salesman asking about the advertising on internet. The price was correct as advertised. Coming over, I was offered coffee, which was made how i like. All the girls that was around us were smiling and doing a great job. I am very elated with purchase of my dream car, 2012 BMW X6, and also the dealership......five plus guys be sure to come over here but there was a second car that i would like to purchase but unfortunately is not for sale. Again thank you.

Advertised prices are a scam

by rocco_j_jersey on 01/19/2015

Read the "notes" link in fine print (very hard to find). Went there to look at a vehicle, and their starting negotiation point was $3,000 over the advertised price, consisting of a $2,500 prep fee and a $500 documentation fee. No thanks.

2011 Mercedes Benz c300

by Liiih on 10/31/2014

Entirely satisfied with my purchase. I've been looking into purchasing a 2010 or 2011 Mercedes c300 and found the perfect one at this dealership for the perfect price. Of course, I had to do a lot of research before hand and decided to stop by this place. Best decision I could've done.

by Lferro on 05/22/2014

Recently I bought my second car from 21st Century and once again, they did it again! This is my second BMW 3 series and I'm impressed with the service I received. This is my go-to place for a car purchase. No matter which employee I talk to I know I'm going to get quality service.

Beyond Happy

by carlover0922 on 05/20/2014

I recently bought a car from 21st Century Auto Group (2010 Infiniti g37) and I'm in love. the service was top-of-the line, the location was easy to find, salesmen were friendly and cooperative, and most of all- I got my car. I would highly recommend this car dealership. With so many options to choose from and such knowledgeable employees I left happier than when I came in. and that's a good thing.

Ocsar was a real gentleman

by terryya321 on 05/16/2014

stopped in at 21st Century Auto Group to just get some information and test drive a Mercedes Benz GL 550. I was immediately greeted by their friendly Customer Service Assistant who had Oscar come over to help me. As a first time visitor to 21 Century Auto, Oscar took the time and the patience to answer all my questions and in a very respectful and honest way, educate me about the car I was interested in. He not only provided me with things that I might want to consider, but also those that I probably wouldn't because they were not right for the car I was interested in. That was a different experience for me, one that was not expected, but certainly welcomed. I have always built and ordered my vehicles. For me, getting exactly what you want is half the fun of buying a new car; this where Oscar was at his best, and the greatest help to me. He made my order feel special, unique, and stand apart from the other vehicles on the road, including other Mercedes'. He suggested options that really made the car distinctive, but he did it in such a way that it was more about things to think about and consider, rather than things "you really need to buy". Moreover, there was also no pressure to buy; rather Oscar was okay with just spending the time with me, which was what I needed that day. There is a benefit to not being pressured to buy on the spot. For me, it allowed me to take the weekend and review and consider all that Oscar so thoughtfully explained; options that I did not think I would want, became options that I did because it really made the car special. I am pleased to say that with Oscar's help, I purchased my first Mercedes Benz within 2 days after my initial visit with him. It was pleasure dealing with 21 Century Auto Group and in particular, Oscar.

Take your business elsewhere, not worth the HIDDEN fees!

by towncrier on 02/12/2014

This dealership and their salesmen give used car dealers a bad name. Poor customer service and they try to scam you with all of their hidden fees. They advertise their prices as one thing, not that competitive with other dealers but decently priced. Then when you get to the sales table, they tack on thousands of dollars of "dealer fees." Hear me, no other reputable dealer does anything like this. Customary to expect a $300-450 dealer document fee. 21st Century Auto Group tries to charge you THOUSANDS for "inspections, detailing and stock." I test drove two of their so-called "inspected vehicles" and they both registered check engine and brake lights. To add insult to injury, if you go further in the process, once you get to financing, they try and charge another $500 for "finance office" fees. None of this they disclose in your final contract nor will they give you anything in writing to substantiate these fees. They hide it in the cost of the car on your contract. Take my advice, and go elsewhere, there cars nor prices are not something you can't find at a more reputable dealer.
