Portsmouth Chevy goes above and beyond

by happyinyork on 12/20/2016

Dan, the General Manager went above and beyond to provide A+ customer service during the process of locating and securing a new Suburban for my husband. We appreciate all he did! Thank You Portsmouth Chevrolet!

ran my credit 7 times, refuse to answer questions

by ecodisaster on 05/05/2016

This dealership started out decently enough- offered to pick me up at my convenience and drive me to the dealership. Not unique, but convenient, and they did it graciously. However, when I got there and had test-driven some couple vehicles already, and had narrowed down the choice, I was finding that their online prices were a bit less than the in-person prices, plus the non-Chevrolet vehicles they had were extremely overpriced. Now, while I was waiting to test-drive vehicles, the salesman kept doing the typical time waster activities- losing keys despite them being in a filing cabinet at the entrance to the dealership, losing paperwork, etc. He also kept disappearing if I asked what sort of warranties came with the vehicles- he'd say "you know, the typical warranty" and be evasive and try to talk about the features of the three cars I had narrowed it down to. Plus, although they did lower the price of the vehicle a bit, after their dealer fee it came up to well above the budget I had given them, for even the cheapest, most-used vehicle. None of these were certified pre-owned vehicles, by the way (those were far out of my budget). When he handed me off to finance because I said I didn't feel comfortable signing for a car when I didn't know what the warranty was, the finance manager also acted evasively when I asked him about warranties, and both kept playing dumb and constantly asking if lowering the price down by $5 would make me "feel better" about sticking to my budget. Well, it's still $1,000 over budget, so...no. And anything well within my budget was available for less elsewhere. Did I mention that no one had a paper copy of the warranty, and despite asking for it constantly I never saw one, and the finance manager claimed to have one, showed me the front page, and then FILED IT AWAY and acted evasively about handing it to me to look over before I signed anything? Because he did. Lucky thing about these games where the salespeople disappear is they leave you quite a time for browsing the internet, and while the vehicle I had narrowed it down to here was 2010 Volkswagen Jetta with 48K miles on it that came up to 11K after fees, I happened upon a new arrival at a nearby dealership: a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta, 31K miles, for $10.5K, full warranty, fully certified. I did try to barter my price down, and again they asked me about "feeling better" if they brought the price down $5. Yes, FIVE dollars. Not a typo. One of them let slip the warranty was 30 days and only for certain vehicles- not any I had looked at- and that repetition was the last straw. I walked out. Four days later I went to the Volkswagen dealership, where I was treated far better and the sales team read over all documents and options before giving me anything to sign, and answered all my questions. In half the time i spent at this one to buy nothing! The Volkswagen dealership also told me, because I had mentioned that my credit was run at Portsmouth Toyota, if I went to more than one dealership. I told them no, and they told me my credit was run 7 times the day I went here, Saturday, all going to totally different places. Needless to say, I am thankful I walked out and purchased a newer, more gently used vehicle with full coverage elsewhere. I'm sure my credit score will drop dramatically once those 7 tries register. This was a sickening experience, the kind we all expect and fear from car shopping. And cherry on top: when I mentioned I had gone here as idle chatter twice during this week, three total strangers told me quite sharply to stay away from this dealership.

Dishonesty In Car Selling

by BoazNH1 on 10/05/2015

Buyer Beware......... We've all heard of those stories of games dealers play. But when you first encounter their salespeople and dealership you think wow how refreshing they are different. Not so. They play all the simple games from disappearing keys, disappearing salespeople, making false promises. However some of the other games they play are outright dishonest, illegal, and should cause them to lose their franchise license. From trying to force multiple loans through before banks realize the buyers already bought a car, and without informing the buyer that is the trick they are playing. Spot delivering vehicles without any financing lined up then trying to either get higher payments or take the buyers deposit and vehicle back. Selling used cars as new and only disclosing they are used at the last minute (car was unavailable to be seen until paperwork had been signed, but a similar vehicle was shown) (this is one of their internet sales tricks, they claim they thought they told us, and it was a loaner, in fact it was a spot delivered car they had taken back from someone else). They try to force warranties on people saying its the only way they could get them financed. Etc. Don't buy a car from this dealership.

The Best Buying Experience

by larry235 on 06/02/2014

Bought my 2013 Silverado last year and had the best expeience. Leroy M worked tirelessly to provide the truck that I wanted. The pricing and personal service was great. Purchased a new Traverse for my wife and this year my daughter purchased a used Traverse. Cannot say enough good things about this dealership.
