bought a car 2 months ago from these guys. process couldn't have gone smoother. im a 1st time buyer, so i was expecting the worst. in total, i spent about 3 hours in the dealership, so for that i was happy. only thing that took long was the financing

Rude and Unprofessional Sales Person

I received a fairly prompt call from the dealership. I allowed the sales person to speak and ask questions. When he asked how much I pay per month on my current vehicle, I stated it was not pertinent to getting their best price for a new Outback, nor pertinent to the trade-in value for my current vehicle, and I would not divulge that information to him at this point in the negotiations. He then became very rude and began speaking over me, making statements that I wasn't intelligent about purchasing autos, and he was going to inform me about buying and trading-in cars. So, I asked how knowing what my current car payment was relevent? He started to very loudly give me a [violative content removed] spiel that did not make any sense. He would not allow me to speak. At that point I was forced to speak over him to state he was not the type of sales person I would do consider doing business with. He then stated I was not the type of person he would do business with. I laughed and then hung up the phone. Apparently he chooses to prey only upon the dumb and uninformed buyers, or maybe he was just having a very bad day!

I shopped around Hartford, CT area for dealers who gave reasonable quotes. Bertera Subaru gave me a price for 2012 Subaru Legacy that is below invoice price after test drive. That was below my target price and I was presently surprised. That saved a lot of my time for negotiating a good price and I went directly to figure out what ideal configuration. I also contacted Suburban and Mitchell. Both of them just gave quotes close to retail price. Nick was the salesperson who I was dealing with. He was very professional, responded my questions quickly, went out his way to find the car I wanted, and kept me informed in the whole process. The configurations I was interested was quite popular and a few were sold before they reached the dealer. I needed to reserve one and waited for 3 weeks to get the car. Overall, I am very happy with Bertera. I got the car I wanted with the price I liked. I was well-informed and never pressured to make decision. I would recommend Bertera to anybody who is interested in buying a Subaru!

first time buyer

salesman was nice but we felt pressure from his boss. we ended up buying a car from them because we felt like we had a good deal. finance made multiple mistakes on our paperwork on the first day. for example, wrong VIN # on the paperwork that we signed & taxes were wrong. within a wk, finance had me signed more paperwork saying it's an updated paperwork. a wk later i got a second bill in the mail and the price was different and higher than what we agreed upon. later i found out that the 2nd paperwork i signed was wrong and the financing price was changed but the VIN # is correct. in a brief way, we ended up signing the paperwork 4 times. so, couple wks later, they corrected this issue. now, that was one problem solved. next problem (look in dealer's service review).

Excellent, low-pressure experience

I purchased a Subarua Forester (my first experience with car dealers) under a tight timeline and budget here, and couldn't have asked for a better experience. I worked with a gentleman called John, who was the opposite of my preconceived notion of a used car salesman. John was totally laid back, professional, and courteous. The best part was that I actually walked out of there with a really great deal (or at least they made me feel that way!). Of course, you stlil want to do your homework. I compared the price that I purchased my vehicle at with that on KBB, Edmunds, and eBay, and they definitely have very competitive prices! For any inexperienced or new car buyers out there, I'd definitely recommend Harte Subaru.
