SHADY BUSINESS PRACTICES - WILL PAY $1,000s MORE

by Michael on 09/30/2019

Came in for a test drive. Asked for a price of $29,900 (which was $1,097 below list price) and was told that the price listed online was final. Was not able to come to an agreement on financing either and was laughed at by Dale’s manager Troy about getting a low rate at a local credit union. I said I would be in touch once external financing was set. I look the next day online and see they raised the car by $1,000 (up to $31,997). I emailed Troy and an internet sales rep (Ashley) 6 times over the next week and only received 1 response from Ashley. I call Ashley to ask if they are able to take off $400 from their asking price. She said that the asking price was the lowest they can go. I then ask if the price offered when I came in to test drive was still valid ($30,997) as the price online now showed $31,997. She responded by saying that the price never changed (even though it had changed for 9 days). After we were off the phone I re-checked the price and it was back down to $30,997. I then talk with Dale and ask if they can take off $300 off the out-the-door price. He tells me that they are not able to and that the price had now gone up $1,250 during the 5 minutes he was talking with the GM. I know they executed these price increases due to me not completing my financing with them and not having a trade-in which makes for extremely shady business practices. I HIGHLY ADVISE TO GO TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP DUE TO THESE SHADY BUSINESS PRACTICES. BUYER BEWARE. IF YOU DON’T PLAN ON COMPLETING TRADE-IN/FINANCING WITH THEM EXPECT TO PAY AT LEAST $1,000 OVER ONLINE PRICE. MANAGERS/GM HAVE NO MORALS OR CUSTOMER SERVICE SKILLS. GO ELSEWHERE FOR NEW CAR. PRICE MANIPULATORS. *Dale was a patient sales person and listened to us. He obviously couldn’t complete any deals due to management. Ashley was quick to help as well but did lie that they price never changed. Manager Troy and the GM of Russ Darrow Greenfield should be ashamed of themselves for these slimy business practices.

Very disappointed potential buyer

by Disappointed on 12/14/2018

Terrible customer service. Tried for 3 days to buy a car and no one would speak to us because our salesperson was out sick. Called and asked to speak to the sales manager but was transferred to the wrong person. Called back and was put on hold for 5 minutes and then told he was "busy". In 30+ years of buying cars I have never had an interaction with a dealership seemingly so disinterested in selling a car.

Horrible sales/ manager crew

by Horrible on 08/31/2018

Horrible crew to deal with long story short they listed a 2007 Cadillac Escalade for 18500 when we got there the changed the price to 19400 already had a bank approval for that amount got there to pay down payment and purchase the vehicle was told by management he needed more money and the finance company was not willing to give it was told that they wouldn’t be selling us the car for that amount they need more money. Spent two days dealing with these unprofessional fraud commuting sales people! Spend your money else where 22000 was in transit ready to purchase a 2007 and he needed more money off a trade he probably gave the people 10000 for! [non-permissible content removed]! Would give no stars!

Horrible customer service experience

by CLR on 08/16/2018

I went to look at a vehicle in July 2018 and had the worst experience ever!! The dealer posted a price online and gave a different in person. I had to look for a sales person because no one tried to sale. I had to speak to the manager about the price difference. The manager lacked people skills because he was rude. I will not buy from them!!

Avoid this dealership

by Pissedoff on 08/10/2018

1st off, spoke with the sales manager on the phone who personally took the car in and wanted us to ask for him when we got there. Yet we were given to a different salesperson right off the bat. We went to look at a specific car, yet they couldn't be bothered to move the car close to the door, or even away from the other vehicle it was parked too close to. The ad for the vehicle left out several key factors that may deter people, like the battery door being broken off and laying in the cargo area (which exposes the battery to the elements), part of the grill was loose and poorly held in place with tape, and part of the antenna missing, plus one of the tires was low which set off the monitoring system. . After the test drive which revealed that the brakes were also going to need to be looked at we get to the price negotiations. Or this is where the negotiations would be. They write up their price and hand it to us with a local comparison price sheet. A counter offer was given. Now we actually get to talk to the sales manager. This is where we see their true lack of sales talent. We were flat out told that since it was a low cost car, their detailers don't care about doing their job which was why there was still sand in the back seat. The reason they gave for refusingto drop their price $800 was because they had more appointments lined up to look at this car that has already been sitting on their lot for a month.

Nissan Rogue 2017

by Angrycustomer on 07/15/2018

I was informed multiple times that the Nissan Rogue was available. I scheduled an appointment to come in the follow day. I drive all the way there and the Rogue has been sold. I am super upset and wouldn’t go back or send anyone to that dealership. The sales man Bill said his manager nick S apologized and that he would cut me a deal on a cx5 hello that car was 33k plus dollars. when the Rogue I went to purchase was 17774.00 where do you see a deal could be cut. Nick S the manage never came out to talk with me. I just left. Extremely disappointed 😔.

Extremely Poor Service and Ethics

by BobW on 01/08/2018

We drove 5 hours from St Paul, MN to buy a $43,000 One year old vehicle with 20k miles on it. Told it was a very clean 1 owner car. Get there and car was filthy, once they cleaned it for us we found 3 major dents, one scratch which probably cant be buffed out and front bumper trim broken and hanging. Really disappointed that is was anything but a clean one owner vehicle with low miles. Even more disappointing was the treatment of the sales person and sales manager. They said "what do you expect, it is a used car." Then they offered us $100.00 off for fixing the damage. I think I could get it fixed for between $1,000 and $1,500 provided no new panels were needed. All in all we wasted 10 hours of drive time, $100 in gas, making the mistake of trusting them to be truthful and honest. Incredibly frustrated and disappointed.

How much is a customer worth?

by DPersch on 04/28/2017

We just leased our second, and last vehicle from this dealership. At the time we finalized the new lease deal, the sales manager Patrick agreed to cover our over-mileage charges ($500) from our previous lease. The vehicle we wanted wasn't available at this dealership, but was at another lot, so we made an appointment with our salesman for the following week to pick up the new car, and complete the paperwork. We returned at the time of our appointment, but our sales person was tied up with another customer, so they had another sales guy write up the deal. All was great until we got the over-mileage invoice from the finance company. I returned to dealership on a Friday, 4/14/17, to get this resolved. I spoke to original salesman we made the deal with, and he remembered that the over-mileage was to be covered. The manager did not remember, and said they would have to send out for the original paperwork because it was no longer at the dealership. I was told I would receive a call on Monday, 4/17/17. I did not receive any calls the following week, so I made the drive back to dealership to find the manager on vacation, and no one knew anything about it. The sales manager that was there said he would look in to our situation, and get back to me. He did, and because it was not written into the original contract, they would not cover it. I take some responsibility for not making sure this was written into the contract, but I think if my appointment was honored, and the original salesman wrote up the deal, this would not have happened. It didn’t matter to these “managers” that their salesman remembered this as part of the deal, so we got punished for them not honoring an appointment with a sales person. In the mind of Russ Darrow Mazda, a customer is not worth $500.

Professional, fast and courteous service!

by acvirgo2003 on 08/31/2016

I was pleased to deal with Edy and Patrick who were very professional and answered all questions. Car was delivered just the day after purchase, CX-5 GT fully equipped, beautiful! There was a little issue with my docs because I'm a foreigner with working Visa, but they have worked hard with the support of the GM George to get it fixed with success. I am overall very satisfied with their service and the car I've bought, I would suggest to everyone to go there!!!

Bait and Switch

by LoveMazda on 12/05/2015

Called to confirm that they still had a car that had been sitting on their lot for months and was still listed in their online inventory. Donovan says "I'm looking right at it"; Ashley Pashkewitz says "It's right here, let's set up your test drive", even had her email me the online price. I drive the two hours to get there (I had told them I was driving 2 hours to get there) and wow, but that vehicle was JUST sold, moments before I walked in... riiiiight. They would be happy to show me other vehicles though.

Ideal Car Buying Experience

by tforst on 08/24/2015

Talked to dealer prior to arriving. They had two cars I wanted to test drive waiting out front. Then it only took 10 minutes to get a quote on both cars including evaluation of my trade in. I was amazed with how simple it was to get a quote. If you are considering buying a car go to Russ Darrow Mazda and get a quote.

December 2014

by Lua0217 on 12/15/2014

My overall experience with Russ Darrow Greenfield was an ify one. First off, the test drive they took me on was 5 minutes if that. They offered me $600 less than what my car was worth on KBB for a trade-in because "IF they kept it it would need new tires". Then after I decided to purchase the vehicle from them I asked my salesman how much gas was in the car, he said he would check and get back to me, this was the last time I saw him aside from when he gave me the keys because from then on I worked with their finance lady...when I got into my new vehicle it was on 'E', after I just spent 3 hours at your dealership and how many thousands of dollars I get a car that needs gas immediately. But, let me back up...they also charge taxes on the "Russ Darrow Rewards card" that you get for "free" for buying a car with them. And when i went to sign the papers they attempted to charge me $1,500 more than the sticker/advertised price for the vehicle, even after I inquired about it online and the salesman seemed shocked at the price..."wow, it went down in price again..he keeps dropping the prices since black friday" is what he said to me, they told me the extra charges we due to bank fees for having not perfect credit. If thats not bad enough when I put gas in I noticed a deep chip in the windshield that they had covered up with the window sticker...now they are repairing the chips at their cost which I am thankful for. Overall I was unsatisfied with my experience here and I would not purchase another vehicle from them.

Epitome of Unprofessional

by Eirik on 12/03/2014

My wife and I recently purchased a vehicle from Russ Darrow. The vehicle itself is fantastic, but our experience with the dealership and it's staff, well, I'd describe it as "laughable". From the moment we took our test drive with the foul-mouthed salesman named Chris right up to the poor communication we've experienced with the managers Adam and Carson after the sale, these people have managed to demonstrate a lack of professionalism that boggles the mind. We purchase, on average, one new vehicle per year. To think that this [non-permissible content removed] would intentionally blow off a customer that could easily have a lifetime value of $1 million or more over an issue that could have been rectified for under $100 is actually quite comical. Now let's consider what happens when a disgruntled customer starts "talking" about his experience! In any case, there are plenty of dealerships out there. I strongly recommend taking your business elsewhere.

Darrow of Milwaukee, not Greenfield

by dpcltd2 on 10/07/2014

Sent to Darrow Mazda Milwaukee prior to filing. Darrow declined to comment. Darrow Mazda 11330 W Metro Auto Mall Milwaukee, WI 53211 [contact info removed] Mazda North American Operations 7755 Irvine Center Drive Irvine, CA 92618-2922 "Innocent or intentional misrepresentation" Sirs: I twice came to your newest Milwaukee northside dealership, 9-29-14, 9-30-14, to shop and possibly buy a Mazda ‘3' and spoke with Andrew, Daniel and Carson, the general manager. While the dealership was new, [one mechanic in the whole service department] the tactics were old and slippery. I was ready to close when the numbers changed upward by thousands & I was told I had misunderstood the agreements and Carson took notes. I also took notes, had screen prints of invoices, offered prices from other dealers and at least one print from an Internet "“sales pricing"” which was close to all others on a red Mazda 3 GTi, hatchback ; I also looked at a blue reflex color but wanted to sleep on the choice, red or blue. I decided on a slightly more expensive red [$250 net extra for "“red"” paint]. Before I drove to the dealership I called to confirm the closing and was told the higher by thousands number by sales staff. I then spoke to Carson who told me he takes notes in the color of the car wanted. I said I had notes, emails, invoices [from other dealers] and my worksheet completed in front of him along with the pricing. He disagreed, said I was wrong and decided to take a "“pass on my deal"” - after first declining to give me more for my trade-in. Carson called me back, our 3rd telephone exchange, to say the higher number was for the 's' package and he was mistaken. I was never interested in the 's' [ larger engine], never discussed the '‘s' pricing so I don't know how that entered into his notes. His quote for the red Mazda '3' GTi hatchback is not what we discussed nor reflected anywhere in my notes nor Carson's worksheet, in his handwriting; I have a copy and have it in my folder. All other discussions were based on the printed material I had with me. Carson used my net sales numbers on his offer "sheet" and I wrote it out in my notes, in front of Carson, labeled the numbers as to "red" or "blue" and the calculation of the net of my car and subtracted it from the agreed sale number, less an additional $1,500 down to achieve a mo pmt of $326. Carson remarked "“people put money down to get an even mo pmt number." Carson's number was $250 higher after first attempt a number thousands higher than what I openly discussed and agreed, noted, documented and supported by screen prints of the offers; by the invoice shown on my phone; email or postings from other dealers I brought to Darrow. Suffice it to say, I believe the misrepresentation was either innocent or intentional. I confirmed the deal with one of the other dealers after Carson twice declined to make the agreed deal. He is, of course, free to decline what he agreed to do and he did. I took delivery on my 2015 Mazda ‘3' from a different dealer and closed on an agreed price identical to Darrow except without numbers changing or unilateral revision of an agreement to numbers that were never discussed. If I accept poor customer service without objection, I deserve it. Beware of Russ Darrow, northside of Milwaukee, moving targets on closing numbers and "“agreements"” - new dealership, old tactics and slippery slopes. Jussssss my opinion, but were I y'all, I'd have a back-up dealership as did I.

Mazda CX-5

by Wendy52 on 10/04/2013

This was the very first dealership that I visited in my quest for purchasing an SUV. The initial sales person was nice and soft-spoken. I told him the vehicle that I was interested in. He then proceeded to run a credit check on me. He told me that his manager "had a very easy way to check credit without running a credit report". He insisted that it was an "unofficial" credit check. He asked for my license, social security number (which I should have known better), employer, my employer's HR number . . . by then I became very worried. I hadn't purchased a vehicle in years and thought how odd it was that the very first thing a dealer did was review your credit. He then asked me for my initials on a screen pad that stated, "I agree to the terms and conditions that I HAVE READ". I asked him to give me a hard copy of the terms and conditions so that I could read them. He then got up and brought over the "Sales Manager". The Sales Manager and salesman never mentioned anything about the credit check again. Both individuals just dropped it altogether. (I must say, for as young as the Sales Manager was, he certainly was very arrogant.) Throughout our interaction, he talk down to me and insisted that "these Mazda's are selling themselves". I looked around the show room and, other than sales personnel, there was no one else in the building. I looked on their lot and noticed that they had an abundant inventory. After my test drive we went back into the building to sit at the desk. The sales man asked me what it would take to put me in a new vehicle TONIGHT. I was very candid and told him that I was not going to buy a vehicle tonight, as this was the first of many vehicles that I was researching. He wrote down some numbers and asked me what I wanted my car payment to be. I told him that the car payment amount was irrelevant, as I was more concerned with value and the bottom line. I understand that they want to sell their vehicles. But the purchase of a vehicle is a major purchase for most people - second only to a home. It is something that cannot be decided in the span of one hour. I guess, in defense of the sales person - nothing ventured nothing gained - but I won't be venturing into that dealership again. My suggestion to Russ Darrow would be that they should allow the Mazda to "sell itself".

Buyer Beware

by darth_flatus on 01/12/2012

This is a very shady dealership with lots of employee turnover. Make sure that anything they say you get or promise to you is written down and signed or they will not honor it. Before going, have a general understanding of how financing works or they will take advantage of you. I will definitely never go back nor will I recommend these guys to anyone. Stay away. Oh yeah, gave one star because I had to, or they would have gotten zero.

by afs0308 on 07/15/2011

Eric from their internet communication dept was very helpful and low pressure--which put me more at ease. This was a big decision and I didn't want to rush through it or feel pressured. I would strongly recommend Russ Darrow Mazda. I love my new Mazda 2 and am looking forward to driving it for many years to come.
