This is my 4th lease at First Team Honda and I drive 45 mins and pass 3 other Honda Dealers just to go to this one every time!! The process is seamless. The customer service is amazing. Mark Bowles and D.A. Young are always my number one contacts. I never have to worry with these two! I know I’m in good hands!!!

Good Service, Bad collaboration

by jpl572103 on 07/25/2013

Assistant Service Manager Craig, took care of my problem. Even though he was stuck because of Honda, he still did his job. Also Kent the mechanic, did his job. Shame on Honda. They confessed to me that the transmission has a problem and Engineers are working on a fix.. Craig said that he can't fix the transmission because Honda says its NORMAL to SHUDDER.

Trustworthiness? What trustworthiness?

by klimerick on 09/23/2011

I was contacted by Mark Carey who made on offer on my vehicle that had just been posted on craigslist. I declined the offer stating that it was too low, and that I intended to meet with several interested parties. Mr Carey got back to me stating that he believed that he could meet my asking price if my vehicle was in the condition stated. Being confident that it was, I accepted Mr Carey's offer and stated that I would no longer plan to meet with other buyers. I stated that working with his dealership would be more convenient, and that I would not need to be concerned with fraud and/or other internet scams. Upon making an appointment with Mr Carey he then stated that if my vehicle had problems, we would then need to negotiate an adjusted price. As Mr Carey had not seen my vehicle and I was completely confident in its condition, I found this to be both expected and reasonable. Due to an unforeseen family needs I was required to reschedule my initial appointment time. When I contacted Mr Carey a few days later to reschedule, it was then that he informed me that he did not intend to abide by our agreed upon pricing procedure. He went on to insult me by now offering $200 less than his original offer, and $1,100 below my posted asking price. This lack of personal and/or professional integrity was shocking. The First Team Honda literature states, "At First Team, we pride ourselves on our trustworthiness". Mr Carey's lack of basic ethics has gone a long way to undermine the mission of his organization. Please note that I have all email correspondence with Mr Carey, and will be happy to provide them as needed.

FIRST TEAM...You Are Off MY TEAM

by kookster on 08/06/2011

I tried to purchase a 2012 Honda Civic Sedan EX (w/ NAVI) from this dealership. They had a couple Civic Sedans on the lot and one being delivered within the month. Just through random questioning with the Internet Sales person as I sat at his desk, I asked why Honda didn’t have a longer Warranty like “Kia” or “Hyundai”. The sales rep said “because we don’t have to”. And that was it, no explanation as to why he said it or anything…just like some little elementary kid at school. I asked if we can negotiate the price down from the ridiculous quote he gave me of $2500 over MSRP and he about passed out. He immediately went and got his sales manager who said there is no way they could lower the price because of the Tsunami in Japan. Why should this affect me??? I just want to buy my wife a new car! Why should the customers suffer and have to pay these outrageous prices. Honda is ‘big business’ which makes billions of dollars annually off hard working people around the world. If you haven’t noticed, America is going through a big recession too. It’s not everyday Americans can go out and buy a car. I am over 40 years old and this is my first NEW car I am able to try and buy. First Team Honda…I’m kicking you off MY team!!! I bought the same car I requested through a dealer just outside of town.

Extended warranty

by ggupster on 07/10/2009

I bought a 2002 used car from these people in 2004. At the time they sold me what was supposed to be a 6-year extended warranty for $880. Now, 5 years later, the warranty people tell me that they sold me a new car warranty-NOT A USED CAR WARRANTY-- that began the year of the car--not when I bought it. Thus the warranty had expired in 2008--6 years after the year the car was made. The dealership refuses to make good on the warranty or refund my money. I never received an actual copy of the warranty, as other dealers provide--just their word. WE CAN SEE HOW GOOD THEIR WORD IS!! Also, make sure the final papers you sign reflect the "deal" you agreed to. They also tried to change the terms without disclosing the change to us.

Customers beware

by rogerrabbit1 on 06/22/2009

We brought in our 2003 Honda Pilot for a timing belt change as the dealer quoted a reasonable fee. The service fees quickly racked up (new motor mounts to pass inspection??). $1400 later the car is ready. On a trip outside the area I discover that the oil dipstick tube is not secure and is wobbling loosly, interfering with drive belts. I take it to a dealership out of town and they find the bolt to secure the tube stuck in the recesses of the engine and tell me that several clips were not reattached by the dealer that replaced the timing belt. They were shocked at the poor job 1st Team did. When I return to 1st Team Honda, they tell me that the bolt came out on its own and glued it in place with LockTite. What a ridiculous response! Of course they couldn't say that all the fastners became undone on their own too. If the dealer would have accepted responsibility for what they did I would not be upset. Refusing to take responsibility makes me angry!

2008 Accord Steering

by bbrowncods on 04/08/2009

Let me see, how can I say this gently: They suck. Do you ever feel like some places are so bad that you can't even be mad at them and you just feel sorry for them because they can't help it? Well this is such a place. I'll just list the issues. 1. I had to diagnose a bad steering rack for them after they told me "they all do that". A clunk in the front end of a one year old accord? Really. 2. Delivered it to me "ready to go" with the hood unlatched. 3. No way to give me a rental car. "Even if I pay for it?" "No. I do not have the resources." - Todd. This is stone age. 4. Car is still not fixed.

First Team Rip Off

by ickenham on 01/06/2008

My experience with First Team Honda was very disappointing. The sales staff was passable, but the floor management staff was downright rude and insulting. I think the only way they are staying in business is by selling the popular Honda brand but it's not because they offer any kind of salesmanship or professionalism. They are the example I would use of the stereotypical car dealer out to rake in as much profit as possible, mainly off the ignorance of the consumer and the desire for a popular brand. I would not ever do a deal with this Company. Wasted over 4 hours of my time then made me an offer only a the most desperate person would take. Insulted my intelligence and thanks to sites like Edmunds I was prepared and knew what a reasonable deal would have been. I was even trading in a Top of the line Acura and they bad mouthed their own parent companies product! In over 4 decades of buying cars I have never been treated as poorly as I was at this dealership. Take my advise stay away, plenty of other Honda dealers in the Hampton Roads area.
