Overall the salepeople do try and help...if....

by georog on 08/22/2017

you have no credit at all. After purchasing a Fusion, I wish I had gone back and bought a Prius I tested from them. My salesperson was down to earth and was really trying to help me and my family out.Lesson learned I will shop here once I establish a payment history in about a year or so, and trade out of my Fusion to a new vehicle!

Shady Pricing Practices

by kenneth18 on 01/19/2016

I contacted this dealership (via email) on 1/15/2016, interested in a Toyota Tundra. Shortly after contacting them, I received an auto response email listing their current new vehicle specials, followed by a response from their internet sales manager Mario. In that auto response email, the dealership advertised $10k off left over 2015 Tundras. I responded to Mario asking if they do in fact have $10k off the 2015 Tundras. His initial response was “We do have $10k off the 2015 Toyota Tundra 1794 editions.” Now this is the first shady practice by this dealership. When you check their inventory, you will see they do not even have any 2015 1794 editions. So if I went to the dealership thinking they had some 2015 1794 trucks with $10k off, I would not be able to purchase one. It is simply a tactic they use to get you to their dealership. And I will show further proof of this tactic. The email clearly said $10k off ALL 2015 Toyota Tundras. So I responded to Mario stating this. His exact response was “Congratulations, not everyone will receive that email, we do not have many 2015 Tundras left over and I would like for you to take advantage of the $10,000 off of our remaining Tundras.” I’m not sure what he meant by “not everyone will receive that email.” I received that email as an auto response when I originally emailed their dealership. Ignoring the fishiness of this $10k off tactic, I decided to visit the dealership on 01/16/2016 and get an Out the Door price on one of the left over 2015 Tundras. I checked their inventory which showed they still had 9 available. When I got there, they told me all they had was just one left. It was parked in front of the dealership and was a 2015 Platinum edition, msrp $47k. I wanted to make sure the truck would then be $37k plus tt&l. They assured me they do not add on any dealership fees, prep fees, document fees, etc. The truck would be $37k plus tt&l. The next step was to value my trade-in. And this is where their $10k off tactic occurs. I brought them my trade so they could value it. Before they would even give me an offer, they called up my financial institution to find out how much I still owed on the car. This is a very shady practice as they used this number to offer a lower amount. Any dealership who wants to know how much you owe before offering you an amount is just shady. The KBB trade-in value on my car is $26,229 to $28,888. The dealership offered me $24k on my trade in. The fair purchase price on my car is almost $32k. And this is the value of the car in stock form. My car has many expensive upgrades that this dealership wants on the car. They told me if I wanted to take these upgrades off the car, it would decrease their trade-in offer. Here is how dealerships like this work: -They will advertise something like this, say $10k off ALL 2015 Tundras. -When you ask them about it, they will try and say it is on certain trims (example 1794) -When you call them out on that, they will say something stupid like “congratulations, not everyone blah blah blah…” -They convince you to go to their dealership with this $10k off offering -They don’t want to lose $10k by selling the truck so they try and make it up elsewhere, I.E. your trade-in -They will offer you $24k on your trade-in that is worth $28k (trade-in value) and $32k market value -They then make $8k off your trade-in, so they make $8k off of you. -They then only sold a left over 2015 model for $2k off MSRP When I questioned them about why they are not offering KBB value, they responded with “kbb is just a guide” and “kbb is not buying your car, we are.” But then when you go to their website, they advertise kbb used car guide on their webpage. This dealership is another stereotypical dealership that uses shady tactics. Don’t fall for it. Look at the overall picture before purchasing from them. If they offer $10k off, see where they are trying to make it up. Don’t be a sucker and let them make money off of you. I didn’t even get to the financing stage but I bet they try and screw people over there as well. If you do decide to buy from this shady dealership, I recommend getting preapproved through your bank first. If they are shady with pricing, they are probably shady with the financing. They probably add on 2% interest when they arrange financing for you. Legally they can do this to you and you would never know unless you went and get pre-approved elsewhere first.

Don't ever believe [non-permissible content removed]

by abc123007 on 12/01/2015

Cavender Toyota Sales guys are [non-permissible content removed]. They promise somethings on the phone and they cheat while you meet them. They are ruthless and you loose interest buying toyota vehicles. They have to learn customer service first and respect customer time and money. Toyota Manufactures, you should take care of these issues, otherwise all the customers will loose buying toyota vehicles in future like I do now. I would give zero if rating validation not there. Frustated and stressed out with this dealership

Buyer Beware Unethical finance practices

by savvy_buyer1 on 02/07/2015

I have owned 3 new Toyotas; I bought 2 of them from Cavender--the "old" Cavender. I also bought a Cavender Olds--back in the day. So, I recommended Cavender Toyota to a friend buying a car and went with her. What a circus! There are salesmen standing around outside--waiting to pounce. We "chose" a salesman before we got out of the car and I told my friend to hop out and approach him. Still, another salesman approached me before I could put my car in park. The salesroom had people (buyers) hanging out all over the place. I could go on; but, the WORST thing was after getting approved for credit, they REFUSED to tell us the interest rate! Not only is this unethical it is illegal. Of course, we would find out AFTER we purchased and signed the contract. Needless to say, we walked away. Buyer beware! I don't know what happened to the Cavender I used to know and trust. This place isn't it. I called the General Manager to express this sentiment; he never called me back, so here it is .

Cavender Toyota of San Antonio is a BAIT/SWITCH operation

by yudahoo on 05/23/2014

I don't want this to sound like anything other than it is, so I'll include the active link here: http://www.cavendertoyota.com/truck-specials.htm so anyone who wants to test this can. So I saw this great add for a new 2014 Tundra (MSRP $46,048) for $11,000.00 off! What a great deal! So I called and talked to a new car salesman (you can ask any of the salesmen - it's the way these guys are trained to do business) and he guaranteed me that this truck (only one of course) was sitting right outside his window and it was not sold. "Come on down" he says. So I made a called to my buddy who is helping me to locate a Tundra and asked him to check it out for me. He in turn called Cavenders Toyota and asked for a new truck sales person and was told "Yes, it's sitting here and is available - come on down!". Well he was only 5 minutes from the dealership and so he drove their immediately. And when he got there, he asked the 1st salesmen to approach him about the $11,000.00 promotion truck and again (3rd sale man now) he was told "Yes! Come on in and let's get some information...". Well it all went as you can imagine from here, and ultimately he was finally told that "THERE IS NO TRUCK HERE FOR THAT PRICE", and "LET'S GO LOOK AT ANOTHER ONE". Well then the next interesting thing was just as you would imagine "No, I'm afraid that "WE CAN'T SELL YOU THE TRUCK FOR THAT PRICE". Not even another truck on the lot with the same MSRP of $46,048!!! What a complete waste of time!!! We were both very clear in asking about this truck before we wasted any more time or energy on this, and we had 3 different salesmen play the same game with us. Look = I'm doing this because I think something has to be done to let them know that this is not the way to handle your customers. This is known as BAIT & SWITCH and it's against the law. So - if you're looking to buy a truck, I would feel that my wasted time at least has helped others to understand that CAVENDER'S TOYOTA BELIEVES THAT THEIR CUSTOMER'S ARE IDIOTS AND WILL FALL FOR THE BAIT & SWITCH TACTICS that they employ. Please try this for yourself before you go. Matter of fact - call them from the parking lot and ask about the specials then walk in a confront them. I doubt anyone wants to be treated like this.

Great knowledgeable staff, very competitive pricing, respectful.

by septembersrain on 05/14/2013

I initially had stopped there to inquire about a model of car that I had as a rental. I had found that I was very pleased with the rental car and was considering buying that exact car except with 3 doors instead of 5. This dealership was the closest to me. They were very knowledgeable, they weren't pushy, and they answered all my questions even though they knew I wasn't going to buy on that day. Went back to them with my husband and was pleased to notice that they treated both of us equally and with the utmost respect. They honored quotes that other dealerships had offered us. So we went ahead and bought from them a few days later. I love my car, and I'm glad I got it from them. Oh and they gave me a key-chain and a mug! Ask for Gus or Dustin.

treated me well

by bob267 on 06/13/2009

I worked with Rene from the internet dept. He was very helpful and courteous. He researched cars for me for several weeks and gave me good pricing. I was able to deal with him via phone and email. Got a great car, great price, great experience. When I bought the car, it took less than 90 minutes to close. Only negative was that when I went to close the deal he wanted $100 more than we had agreed. I refused and we went forward.

Watch your pocket

by goodgame on 01/19/2008

Went to Cavender because 1) close to home 2) needed a car fast, and 3) my wife knows a salesperson there. 1} Close to home is good. Cavender's service dept is open until midnight during the week and open on Saturdays. That is great for those of us to work. Hope I don't need to see them for anything besides oil changes. 2) It's never good to buy a car fast. Although there were generous end of the year rebates, the dealer puffed up the price with all kinds of add ons and was unwilling to lower the price. Perhaps if I walked on on the deal, I would have gotten some concessions, but that was not a good option for me at the time. 3) There are no friends in the car business - lol!! My wife's friend made the deal a bit more tolerable, but we still had to put up with the confusing pricing, changing numbers, mystical manager decisions, long waits, etc. When we got to the finace department, the finance guy tried to slip an extended warranty and insurance plan into the financing without even asking us if we wanted it. Instead, he told us the monthly payment and quickly said "that includes your extended warranty and gap plan" as if we had made those descisions and should be happy with them. When I called him on that he gave me this look of surprise and asked why in the world I wound not want these products. When I explained that we had just listed to a salepitch that focused on the reliability record of Toyota, and I was so convinced that I felt comfortable doing without the ex warranty, the guy just stared blankly. So buying a car from Cavendar is no different from most dealerships. They are not in business to do you favors. You've got to watch for your interests. Cavender will take you for all they can.
