I bought a Genesis Coupe 3.8 GT yesterday (7/7/09) from Gossett Hyundai. I signed an offer to purchase the vehicle over 2 weeks ago and gave them a deposit. When I went to inspect the vehicle before signing the contract, I found the car had 236 miles on it and had been driven hard...there were bug splatters all over the front of the car. When I tried to cancel the deal, I was shown a clause in the offer to purchase which stipulated that they could withold my deposit if the deal was cancelled. I contacted Hyundai USA and was told that because it was an independently owned and operated dealer, they could do nothing. My choice was to go ahead with the deal or lose my $4,000 deposit. So I just paid $28,900 (before Tax, Tag and Title) for a less than new vehicle when I expected a new one. Fortunately the car was detailed before delivery and I could find no cosmetic issues with it. I just had to make sure I commented on my experience. 1) Don't put down your full deposit until you inspect the physical car you are buying. 2) Watch for fine print.
