Easiest Car Purchase Ever!

by virgo41 on 07/25/2018

I contacted approximately 5 area dealerships to see about trading in a lease early. Grayson Hyundai was patient with me, gave me the information I needed over the phone before I even arrived. They had the vehicle I was interested in ready to test drive right away and didn't make me sit and hear some dumb spiel first. Toni, my salesperson, was super nice and accommodating as I was pretty picky. And when it came to negotiation, they came down to my terms very quickly without playing the usual back and forth games. This is my new dealership of choice!

Beware of safety issues, false claims and shady practices

by volvoist on 09/23/2017

This is the worst possible option for buying a used car. The ‘sales associate’ made a number of false claims about the condition of the vehicle over the phone. When you get there, that same sales associate has already “started the car for you to cool down the interior” – and warm up the engine to mask any cold start problems… Then you look over the vehicle and the condition is not as described and then they are going to try to bully you into a sale. In the ad and over the phone the car was described as ‘excellent condition’ and then had some scratches and dents and bits of the fabric covering interior parts had come off (for more issues see below). However, when it comes to the price they will pull out the blue book value for ‘excellent’ and insist on their price. When I had inquired about the car over the phone and specifically asked about the condition of the tires and brake pads, I was assured that the tires were ‘still good’ and that ‘if they weren’t we would have to change them anyway’. The same for the brake pads. When I arrived the tires were worn to the level of being a safety risk – hardly any tread left and cracked side walls. In fact, an old receipt we found in the car confirmed that the last tire change was 40000 miles ago! The guy insisted that the tires still had a lot of life in them. The brake pads in the front were worn down to less than 1/16 but the guy said the brakes ‘worked well when he drove it’. These guys are either incompetent or intentionally misleading and I don’t know which is worse when it comes to safety features of a vehicle. In terms of customer service we also had a horrible experience. While talking to the sales associate and negotiating an appropriate reduction of the price for the brakes and tires, he went to talk to his manager. Suddenly some disheveled looking guy in a ball cap comes storming out of his little box in the back of the show room and starts yelling at us that this was the final price. He didn’t even introduce himself and started abusing us (we later learned it was Mike, the sales manager). It is a mystery to me why you would employ someone like this, or, at the very least, you would keep him as far away from customers as possible. This is all part of a sketchy sales technique that should make you to look elsewhere when buying a used car. The scheme goes like this: you are talking to a sales associate about the vehicle and price. He will make all sorts of claims and then listen to the issues you found with the vehicle and what a reasonable reduction in price would be. Once he gets you to make an offer, he writes this on their little deal sheet and asks you to sign and date it. That way they make the customer commit and make sure they ‘have you on the hook’. You naturally assume that signing a written offer constitutes a contract, but you are in for a surprise. The sales associate will take the paper away to clear it with his ‘manager’. This is the time when the manager mentioned above come out to declare that the going price is above what you agreed and says he is not bound by anything his sales associate says. In fact, Mike even flatly stated that “this is the reduction I gave you over the phone to get you to come here!” Then you are there, the car doesn’t match the description and they are not willing to account for these issue with the price. Cheapest trick in the book to get the customer to commit to the purchase and then change the conditions of the deal. As other reviewers commented, they also try to trick customers with their fee structure - the ‘online price’ according to the website includes a $499 processing fee. They might give you a reduction in price over the phone or internet, which you assume is then also going to be without the processing fee. However, they add that back on to the reduced price… Then they have a $250 ‘etching fee’ – some additional insurance they are making money from. Before you buy the car, they promise that ‘you’ll get some paperwork and everything’ and something about getting an additional payment from the insurance in case your car is stolen – we paid the fee but never received any documentation. Going to this dealership was a mistake, we had 5 hour drive to get there and needed a vehicle – these guys took advantage of that. Safe yourself an unpleasant hour or two in this place and go elsewhere!!

Absolutely fantastic dealership! Our salesman was Marty and the sales manager Curtis went above and beyond to make my daughters first NEW car purchase absolutely fantastic! I can't thank them enough for all the time they took to make sure it was a great experience for her. I will definitely without a doubt be going back to this dealership and specifically to Marty!

Tops in our book!

by kckbarton on 07/28/2014

Just bought a used 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe from Grayson and couldn't be happier on how it went. Our salesman CL was the best and very easy to work with. We own another Hyundai that we bought in another state and have serviced at Grayson since moving to Tennessee. Very pleased with the service department as well. If you are looking for a car look at Grayson! Thanks Guys!

Bought Two!

by jrlepage on 11/17/2012

Just finished picking up TWO cars from Grayson Hyundai, one 2013 Accent SE and one 2013 Elantra GT. The salesman we worked with, C.L. M., did an awesome job of locating the color and configurations we wanted and was very reasonable when it came to negotiating. It's a very low-pressure sales environment and I didn't get the sense that they were trying to monkey around with the numbers. When I asked to see the invoice, they were happy to show it to me. I recommend first requesting a quote through Edmunds or another car shopping website. Grayson's Internet sales team will get back to you within 24 hrs with a quote. If you then get back to them with a low (but reasonable) counter-offer, you will get a reply with an (almost) rock-bottom price. Their Internet sales team is not commissioned the same way as their other salespeople. Their only job is to make sure you pick Grayson over other dealers when web-shopping. Then, print that e-mail and go in to the dealer to speak with a salesperson. Negotiate once more to get them to lower the price slightly further, throw in free mats, etc. and you will have a price that's hard to beat. The thing I like most about C.L. is that he is happy to help you out after the deal is done, scheduling your car's service, getting you a loaner car when your car's in the shop, etc. All-around, couldn't be happier with how this turned out!

Pleasant Buying Experience

by rph6 on 04/26/2012

They provided an "Internet price" to us both during our initial visit to the dealer and via email. This price seemed fair - it was a bit below the Edmund's TMV. Negotiations were friendly, though they didn't show a lot of flexibility below that price and I was more interested in getting my wife into a new car than getting the absolute best possible price. My wife is very happy with the car and we were both happy with the car buying experience.

Great Experience Buying A Car

by bigjerry on 07/26/2011

I purchased a new Hyundai Sonata Hybrid last week from Grayson Hyundai - and in my 50 years of buying cars (frequently I might add), I have never had a dealer be so forthright with absolutely no BS, no price adder to the MSRP for items like wax, uphostery protection etc. The OTD price was agreed to then we looked at my trade - no confusion between the two. They even let me use their computer to look up KBB trade in value! Didn't have the color combination I wanted, but brought one in within two days at no additional transportation cost! And, I got a discount on this hot selling car. Loved the experience at this dealer and highly recommend them - and yes, I did shop the other Hyundai dealing in the area. Their window sticker had over two thousand in added items on every car! You may be able to negotiate most of that off, but you will still pay much more than at Grayson. So, save your time and go directly to Grayson.

Do not buy hail damage

by sami7 on 06/20/2011

We bought a used car with hail damage. We were told repair would be around 2 or 3 thousand dollars. The next day the estimate was $7,000. We were told to wait a few months and the price should go down. We just wanted to return the car and get our trade back. We were not allowed.
