Salesman Rob Abdill

by Tigerblood230 on 11/09/2018

This dealership is sleazy. They will say and do whatever it takes to make a sale, even if it is untrue. They told me the car that I called about was there, so when I get there it "just sold yesterday..." I went in the same day I called! Said, "you drove this far, let's make a deal on this one..."

Steer clear of Johnson City Toyota

by chuckstyle on 10/01/2017

Went back in March and purchased a 2014 Dodge Charger SRT8 Super Bee. This car is header orange. There were only 74 produced in 2014 with this color. I was told they had done there "160 point inspection". About 2 weeks later, April 5th, I had a backup camera at my local Dodge dealership. I got a call to inform me that my front tires were worn into the cords on the inside edges. Well I got the car back that afternoon and I gave my salesman, Scott Smalling, a call. I asked him what they would do since they put me and my family in a car that was dangerous. I was fully planning on them telling me no, but they told me that they would reimburse me for 2 new tires. So I went ahead and put tires on, so I could use the vehicle that I was paying for, and had an alignment done due to the bad tire wear. The alignment was way out, toe, camber, and caster. After repeated calls and being told "the check got mailed out this morning" I finally had to drive an hour and a half back over to the dealership to pick the check up on June 20th. Well this week on September 27th I went to another dealership to inquire about trading for a truck. While waiting word on how much they would give me for my car, the gentleman that was appraising it proceeds to ask me if I know anything about all of the paint work that's been done on my car. I told him I had no idea. The car had a clean car fax so I thought it was good. Well he then takes me out to my car and shows me all of the things he was talking about. So I would think that if he caught these things wouldn't Johnson City Toyotas appraiser or "160 point inspection" have caught this? So instead of taking the legal route I wanted to give them a chance to make it right. So I called and asked for Scott and he wasn't there so I asked for Kelly Wenchell the used car manager. Of course he wasn't available so I left him a message to get back to me that day. I called at 3:30 they are open til 8. At 7:30 I called and asked for Kelly again. He had decided to go ahead and go home. Well the following morning I called Scott and told him what was going on. Toward the end of the day I get a text from Scott, he said that his General Sales Manager Matt Malson wanted me to make the 1.5 hour drive and "we would work things out". I let them know that if I made the drive I wanted it to be resolved the day that I came out. He assured me that they would do everything they could to resolve it. The next day I went to a professional body shop to let them look the car over so I could be informed. The gentleman I spoke with told and showed me everywhere that the car had been worked on. Here's that breakdown: New parts- Front bumper Hood Right front fender Right front door Windshield Parts that had been repaired- Right rear door Right rear quarter panel Right side of rear bumper Well today I made the trip back to speak with Scott and Matt. Matt checked my car out himself and agreed that there had been paint and bodywork done to the car. He then proceeded to tell me that the best way that he could help me was to find me a truck that fit my needs and he would value my car as if there was no paint and bodywork done to it. So I went with Scott and looked at a couple of trucks I liked and came back in to run the numbers. If they where estimating my cars value like there had been no paint work it would be in excellent shape. Kelly blue book excellent value for my car is $28,791.00. I'm using Kelly Blue Book because that is what they used. The come back with a $26,000.00 offer on my car! Then I hear market value... blah blah blah. In the end they "did me a favor" by coming up another $600.00. I made the drive over thinking they would do the right thing by doing 1 of 3 things: -Paying me the amount that my car depreciated due to this discovery. -Buying it back from me -Making me a GOOD deal on another vehicle from them. I got none of what I hoped would have happen. Due to their negligence I am stuck with a vehicle that isn't worth anything close to what I paid for it. I wanted to keep this out of court but it looks like I'll be going anyway. My advice to anyone looking for a vehicle is to head on down the motor mile to... well any other dealership down there. If you are looking for a Toyota come over to Boone NC and see the good folks at Modern Toyota. STEER CLEAR OF JOHNSON CITY TOYOTA!

Good Experience

I went to Johnson City Toyota to purchase a used Tundra. I had the pleasure of working with Jason Garrett, he was knowledgeable and courteous and moved quickly to put a deal together. I would recommend Jason and Johnson City Toyota to any potential buyers.

Tricksters....all of them. Check the odometer.

by candice7 on 08/22/2016

First of all, you do not have to give them a $500 deposit in order to have them find your exact requested car. If you give them a deposit, and you find your car elsewhere on your own, they keep your money. I was given a monthly payment price before I agreed to actually lease the car. When I went in to get the car, I realized they had added on "Platinum Protection", gap insurance, and other add ons without even asking me if I wanted it. I signed several times on the electronic device....only after I was given copies of the printouts did I realized what I had signed for.....about $2,000 worth of add ons. Also, one official contract said 10 miles were on the odometer, but the actual odometer had 350 miles on it. I asked why the high miles, and the finance guy said he didn't know. I should have walked at that moment. I believe they lie, cheat, and steal. Also, I was given a hard sell for the 360o Birds Eyeview camera. When "my" car was delivered, I assumed it was included. Only after I got home did I realize it was not! Do we have to act like lawyers and detectives just to buy or lease a car in America? Their answer is "well, you didn't ask and you agreed". No, I trusted. Very dumb.

New 4runner purchase

by brotheraxle on 08/27/2015

Highly Recommend!!! Absolutely the very best people to deal with!!! My wife and I made a visit to Toyota of Johnson City, her being interested in a 2015 4runner. She sat down with Kelly and Scott described what she liked and disliked about them, Kelly made a few recommendations, made a few clicks with mouse, and BAM! He turned the pc towards her and said I think her is what your looking for. He's great! He saw right into her mind ordered exactly what she wanted! Next thing you know WAMO! in a few weeks she is smiling and I'm spending money. Kelly done an outstanding job to make sure we got the best deal for the $! When the car came in our sales specialist was Chad, he went out of his way to help us! Our finance specialist was Shane, he too went out of his way to help us! Our customer representative was Terry, she also went out of her way to help us! I can't begin to say enough about how, helpful, knowledgeable, friendly, and courteous each one was! Kelly (sales manager), Chad (sales specialist), Shane (finance specialist), Terry (customer representative specialist) and the detail folks in the back whom I don't know their names where all outstanding in assisting us in our vehicle purchase. Scott was our sales specialist on our initial visit, but when the car came in he had been promoted (congratulations on his success!). I can't express enough do not buy until you give them a try!!! This is my second purchase from Johnson City Toyota and I have had excellent service both times!!! For those of you that don't know, when someone can make me feel comfortable spending money they have moved mountains with spoons!!! These folks where all a part in doing that!!! Thanks to all of you @ Toyota of Johnson City, a pleasure to do business with! Highly recommend them for all your vehicle needs!!! • • •

Glad I stopped at JC Toyota

by amc32 on 08/25/2015

I have been looking and researching to purchase a small SUV. When I stopped at JC Toyota I went to see the RAV4. I love this vehicle. The salesman was super nice and helpful. If he didn't know the answer to a question he asked someone that did. They also took time to help show me how to pair my phone with the bluetooth along with other features. Thank you Johnson City Toyota!

Bad experience

by hojo8 on 06/26/2015

I bought a new Camry from this dealership because the owner was a friend of my friend. I was given $2000.00 under book value for my trade-in. I took it because I thought that when the owner reviewed the contract, he would make corrections.Wrong ! Money must be stronger than friendship.Stay away from this dealership!!!

Don't give them a deposit!

by networkshadow on 08/13/2008

I was dealing with Phil Bachman Toyota Scion to buy my second ever car, (first ever brand new car) a Scion xD, since early June when I put a deposit down for them to get my new car on order. This was my mistake, I should have called around to the other dealerships in the area first, and would have if I had known how badly they would treat me... While the short supply of Scion xD's isn't the dealer's fault, their customer service was far from encouraging during my 2 month wait. The salesman only called me maybe once to tell me that they were still trying to find me a car to my specifications, and hadn't forgotten about me... The only other contact I had with them is when I'd call the salesman who just sounded annoyed by me checking-in. Finally last week (Aug 4th - 8th) I emailed all the other Toyota / Scion dealers in the area to see if anyone else could find me a Scion xD. Friday (the 8th) maybe an hour after emailing a 2nd dealership called me saying they had a 5-speed Magnetic Grey 2008 xD on the lot and wanted to do business with me. To make a long story short the Phil Bachman salesman called me soon after saying they were trying to get the same car from the 2nd dealership and that the 2nd dealership wouldn't give it to them because I was "interested it in" (they gave my name)... I hadn't commit to anything yet since I wasn't sure about the pre-installed options, and I explained this to the salesman, however he sounded mad and started treating me like trash and right-away threatened that my deposit was "nonrefundable" if I didn't do business with Phil Bachman Toyota... I told him that I'd call back later to tell him what I'd like to do. I ended-up buying the car from the 2nd dealership that afternoon just because of their better customer service; the salesman told me that they would help me get my $500 deposit back and even said that they would give me $500 if I could not get a refund. Now that's an example of good customer service! The Phil Bachman salesman called me again on Monday (Aug 11) asking what I had decided to do, and I informed him that I bought the car at the other dealership. The salesman right-away reminded me that they would not refund my deposit because "I did not do business with them". That same afternoon I called and left a message for the general manager Bill Benton asking for my deposit back; because they did not provide me with any product or services. However nobody from Phil Bachman has called me back in 48 hours to even refuse my request. I just submitted a dispute of transaction to my bank since I paid the deposit with my Visa debit card. Hopefully they can fix this for me...
