Three Month Wait for Oil Change?

by Jack T on 10/10/2023

What would you think of a dealership if you called and wanted an oil change and was told that they couldn't do the work until THREE MONTHS down the road? I'd think that they were inept, maybe incompetent, or just useless. But that's just me. Their canned excuse was that they were having "parts and staffing problems". Ridiculous. Your mileage may vary.

Maybe you will have better luck

by Jack T on 08/05/2022

Let me start this by stating that the dealings I had with the sales rep, Chris C., were just fine. Nice guy knowledgeable, easy to talk with. And since all cars are in such short supply, we all know that price drops are out of the question. At least McKinney didn’t have ADM. I had saved enough, plus the trade in, to allow me to buy the car outright, without the need of a loan. The sales rep and the “sales manager” both told me that McKinney policy was that I had to take a loan on the car as a condition of the sale. Strange business policy, isn’t it? After that it was all downhill, and as usual, it was all with the finance department. This is the fifth time in a row that the finance department of a dealership has cast a pall over the “experience”. In the past 8 years, we have encountered a rude finance person (Mazda), a rude/lazy/petulant finance person (BMW), a dishonest finance person (Mazda) and finally an extremely officious finance person (McKinney Mazda). I’ll spare the details, but the initial dealings with the finance person were within earshot of the “sales manager”, who immediately put his head down and pretended not to notice. He obviously had no intention of asserting any authority. He later found the time to disappear until I left the dealership. The problem I had with the finance person could have been rectified by me, without her interference. And remember that my dealing with the finance person should have been confined to me saying “no” to all the costly marvelous add-ons and “insurances” that are peddled in that office, then saying goodbye. In any case, this time was the only time that McKinney Mazda would ever see me, unless it is for warranty service. I can hardly wait. Almost forgot. The window sticker included two optional items, a cargo mat and black lug nuts. The cargo mat was where it should be, the lug nuts were thoughtfully left in the box they were delivered in. I guess that actually installing the lug nuts on the wheels was a DIY exercise.

Unethical Business

by John C on 08/04/2022

While we love our CX-5 we are disappointed with the service we received. Upon arrival we told the service advisor that one of the infotainment buttons was stuck. He immediately stated that this was not a part that failed and we must have spilled something in it. I asked if we could get it checked and he blatantly stated Mazda would not approve the repairs. I then spoke to the service manager who agreed to have it checked but I would have to leave the car and it could take a week because of how backed up they were. I further explained that I did not have an appointment because the issue just occurred and the warranty was about to expire. Knowing this there was no offer to bring it back in after the warranty expired to get the repair completed.. After hearing nothing for 5 days I emailed the service manager and COO to ask if the car could be ready within the next two days as I was already out $500 for a car rental. While I didn't receive a response directly the service advisor did call to say that the car was ready the same day and the part was defective. Accusing a customer of damage without any proof is an unethical business practice, especially when the part was indeed the problem, there was no apology for the accusatory statements made by the dealer. I find it hard to believe that I would ever buy another Mazda.

Liars and a waste of time....

by Mommax4 on 04/16/2013

I want to first start of with saying I am aware I have problem credit however, I did have a preapproval and a blank check to take to the dealership. I spoke to a salesman through online chat about my situation and specifically mentioned the bank I was approved through and asked if this would be a problem. I was told in all caps that they would be more than willing to help me out with my preapproval of they had another option if I wanted to go that route. I went into the dealership, chose a vehicle and the lies started. The first lie was that tax was going to be $1200, NOBODY in the state of South Carolina can charge more than $300 tax on ANY item. Next up, they were NOT going to work with my preapproval but would be more than happy to use some other program. Through their program, they acted like they were getting me a great deal, it was a total joke. Not only was I lied to and my time was wasted, but I was made to feel like less of a person because of my credit issues. Run away from this place!

McKinney Mazda (BAD)

by peppermace on 08/09/2009

MCKINNEY MAZDA IF somebody reads this and does NOT go to McKinney Mazda (or any of their dealers) I feel like I have helped my fellow car buyer. This maybe an isolated incident, but I got the feeling it was not! First let me say I was excited about trying to get my new Mazda CX-7 and McKinney Mazda was one of the few Mazda dealers that had something that I was looking for. Although the dealer was four hours away from where I lived, I called them up and made a deal (cash for clunkers). Because I could not get McKinney Mazda to Fax me the paper work (to get signatures), I kept calling, and called the night before to make sure we still had a deal, which they said yes, come on down. Although I had a little bit of doubt in the back of my mind (what kind of deal did not want a signed offer ASAP?), I was excited and still got up at 5 am and made the 4 hour drive to South Carolina. When I got to McKinney Mazda, I was treated quite differently to say I was very disappointed, would be very mild. McKinney Mazda proceeded to everything that I read online that all the shady dealers do, from just outright annoying to flat-out illegal. After driving 4 hours I believe they thought they had me at their whims, and could do whatever they wanted. First ,they tried to change the deal that we worked out over the phone, saying that I could either have cash for clunkers or the cash back from Mazda, NOT both. When I pointed out that that was not how the law was written, they said it was just something I read on line and not true. Having a feeling that something like this might happen, I printed out the LAW beforehand and showed them what the LAW said on my print-out, I then asked them to SHOW me otherwise. They could not and played it off that the law was so new they did not understand it, I wanted to call BS (cash for clunkers is the biggest thing to happen for deals) and cannot believe they would not know this! Then they come back with, well we have another offer for the car and it is higher than your offer. I said, I thought we had a verbal commitment, a deal on this car. They said we had no written signed documentation of them excepting my offer, but if I was willing to offer something higher for the car they would get it written up right away. I said I was not bidding on this car and that we had a verbal deal. They had to go back and talk to the manager (this always takes time). They came back 15 min, and said they sold the car to the other person, but work with me on this nice CX-9 (which did not qualify for cash for clunkers!). I told them this and tried to leave, they actually tried to stop me from going to my truck, I had to keep walking around TWO sales guys, with them fast talking the whole time. Right before I got to my truck, a manager came out and said if I was willing to pay FULL MSRP for the CX-7 they could get one here, but there was only one CX-7 left from Maryland to Florida, and they were the only ones that could get it! This really made me mad because I had printed all of the CX-7 cars out and knew where all the vehicles (and the dealers) were located, and told him he was a liar and left. I did get a phone call from them 15 min latter asking me to come back and see if we can work something out, not a chance! I went to [another dealership] and was treated like a thinking human being , and got a much better deal on the CX-7 that I now drive, quite happy with them.

Excellent Service

by psmcconnell on 07/31/2009

I have a 2005 Tribute that almost never has to be serviced. At 75k miles we started getting a series of beeps but no other indication of problem. Don Strickland at McKinney Mazda has been great working with us to get the Tribute fixed and keeping in mind our personal needs (at the same time my husband had surgery). Don provided us with a loaner because they had to keep the car so long. The Service group at McKinney are great!
