Dishonest

by John on 12/28/2021

I write this review to inform you of the abhorrent behavior of the sales management at Balise Toyota of Warwick. To be blunt, they are [non-permissible content removed]! I made it clear to their team when entering Balise Toyota in Warwick that the only reason I was buying and financing a car was to help my son establish credit. I also shared with the team that I had already checked with my credit union and was quoted an interest rate of 4.49%. I agreed to pay the list price without negotiation. What I asked for was a trade in price and the interest rate. They couldn’t provide a trade quote because “the car wasn’t there”. I found this a little odd because I’ve gotten trade quotes before by providing a VIN number. That said, after checking my credit (score 795) they assured me that they do business my credit uniont would be able to match their rate. My guess is they lied because they were worried we wouldn’t return. We did however return with the trade and negotiated a deal……I thought. However, when presented with financing the interest rate was more than 7%. As you can imagine I was very upset having been lied to. As you can also imagine the fallback of their team was to point out that the monthly payment wouldn’t be affected very much. This angered me even more because during the ridiculous 5 hour sales process I assured them multiple times that the monthly fee was of no concern and in fact if I wasn’t trying to establish credit for my son I would be paying cash for the car. And to add insult to injury I was told by the sales mgr and the finance manager that they would not hold the car for me for the 24 hours it would take to get a check from my credit union. So, after lying to me about the interest rate and being supported in that lie by his finance manager I was presented with 2 choices. 1. Go thru with the deal 2. Risk the car being sold which would force me to go through another 5 to 7 hour sales process with Balise or another dealer. Not willing to take that risk (time is my greatest asset) I bought the car. I write this because I can’t believe I was lied to to secure a small amount of additional profit in an already profitable transaction. This dealership's shaddy practices reenforces why the public doesn't trust car salepeople. I hope you find this information helpful.

Disappointing and frustrating

by Sad_in_mass on 05/27/2016

We were not treated well at the establishment and I guess they didn't care cause we wanted the car and they got our money, right? If the experience was bad...didn't hurt them at all since they still got a sale. Shame on me, I suppose. The car seems to be good, so there's that...but the experience was terrible. And don't expect them to do anything to make the experience better, or improve your perception of them after the fact.

Dishonest Sales Pitches

by kcb6 on 11/02/2014

If you enjoy game-playing, haggling, dishonest sales pitches, and being lied to, well, then this dealership is for you. If you prefer to work with reasonable, salespeople with a sense of integrity then avoid Balise at all costs. This dealership represents all the reasons people hate car shopping. I made an offer on a vehicle at Balise yesterday, After being told they could not accept my offer (okay, fair enough) I left. I received several e-mails this morning from Balise. After the third e-mail, I responded with an e-mail stating that I was still interested in the car, and, I made an another offer (one that was $500 higher than my original). Soon thereafter I received a call from one of the managers, Josh. After some time on the phone, we agreed on a price. I stated this price several times. I even made it clear that I was requesting that the $220 dealer fees be absorbed into the the price I was willing to pay. Josh said that would not be a problem, and that "while the paperwork would have to show the $220 fee," he would "remove that amount from the cost of the vehicle." Having agreed on our price, I then emphasized that I did not want to waste my time driving back to the dealership (a 30 minute drive in the rain) if we did not have a deal. His response was "I can't see any reason this won't happen." He even told me I could leave with the car today. I drove to the dealership only to discover I was not dealing with Josh, but rather the same salesperson, Sean, from the evening prior. He was in no way prepared to offer me the price Josh and I agreed upon (the price Sean was offering was approximately 1k more than what I was promised on the phone). After an infuriating back and forth, I asked to speak with Josh. After some time waiting, Josh appeared and apologetically stated there must have been a "miscommunication" (all the while denying NONE of our phone conversation). Speaking as someone who has spent 14 years teaching Communication at our state University, Josh, the "miscommunication" to which you refer, is more aptly termed "lying." Buyers beware. Spend your money at a dealership that conducts itself with integrity. Balise does not.

[non-permissible content removed]....especially the general manager

by SiennaUser on 03/17/2014

Was in the market for a brand new Sienna XLE, and after shopping around at different dealers, found the color I wanted the vehicle in. After my sales person gave me a pricing I tried negotiating since I saw others in my area paid less. One of the financial managers accused me of calling him a liar (because I told him a friend of mine purchased the vehicle at a different price not to mention fair purchase price was lower than the price offered to me) and said he doesn't want to sell me any car. I said thanks to him and left the dealership. Got a call next day from William the General Manager, he said he wanted my business and apologized for his financial manager's behavior. We went over pricing and surprisingly the price was different today, and even after verifying with the financial manager the price I was quoted the day before, the GM said that price isn't valid anymore. I then insisted that I would pay the new price if I got a factory toyota starter installed as a part of the purchasing terms. C. called service department and asked how much and wrote down a number ($695) on his paper and then minute later said "ok". So I sign everything (finance papers, etc.) and since the service dept was closed, the factory starter had to be installed the following day. The following day I come to get the starter installed and the service rep tells me this will be an aftermarket knockoff remote starter. I find C. the General Manager I spoke to yesterday, and he greeted me and asked how the vehicle was. After I had told him that the Service Dept. said they were told to install an aftermarket remote starter, and that we agreed yesterday to a Toyota factory remote starter, he said no. And began to tell me that they are the same thing. He told me that if I really wanted to have a factory remote starter installed, I would have to pay $695 additional to what I paid yesterday. I told him that we had agreed on a factory remote starter, and that was not part of the deal. Frustrated, I even said I would pay the difference between the aftermarket and factory remote starter, and he replied, "No, we are done with this conversation. The deal is already made". While I was talking to him he, disrespectfully walked away in the middle of our conversation. I was absolutely disgusted at his level of respect. I decided that day that I would never buy another vehicle from Balise again, as this General Manager tricked me into purchasing the vehicle. I was going to purchase another vehicle for my daughter after I had purchased the van, but after the way C. rudely walked away in the middle of the conversation, I will NEVER buy a vehicle from Balise again.

Stay Away

by csnewport on 07/21/2011

Stay away.. The salesmen and managers do not listen to the customer wants and needs. They instead try to push and pressure you into buying something that is not what your looking for. The service was by far the worst I have ever had at a dealership. Listen to the other reviews and STAY AWAY.

Tried every trick in the bag!

by toyofan59 on 06/13/2011

We went in to look at a 2011 car. Everything the salesman told us was inaccurate or outright wrong. We had done our homework before going and knew invoice, MSRP and fair purchase prices. We were treated as if we knew nothing. They tried to sell us a car that did not have the options or powertrain we had requested. When we came home and looked at the offered car online, we found the price had been padded. We were not surprised to find two poor reviews. Stay away from this dealership. They are very disrespectful of the customer.

Dishonest & Crooked, Stay Away!!!!!

by shax07 on 04/22/2011

I purchased a used 2007 Honda Civic Si Sedan from Balise Toyota in Warwick in November of 2010. The car appeared to be in top cosmetic shape, had low mileage and was priced competively. Well a few months after I bought this car, I discovered just why the car was priced the way it was. After roughly 3 months of ownership, the clear coat on the entire right side of the car has started to PEEL off. Looking at the car more closely, it appears that the car has been repainted at least on the entire right side, possibly the entire vehicle. They neglected to tell me this before purchasing it. The car had a clean carfax, no reported accidents. But now I have to get the right side of the car re-painted and re-clear coated again. I should have paid closer attention to the car before buying it, but I did do a thorough look over and I couldn't notice it had been repainted, mainly because they had about an inch thick of wax on the paint, so the car looked pristine. I should have known better right from the start, because I had called ahead of time to let them know I was coming to look at this car, and they said it was still available. I arrived an hour and a half later, only to find out that someone had ALREADY put a deposit on the car, before I called, but they didn't tell me that. So I actually had to wait for this guy to NOT get approved for a loan before I could even look at it. Obviously, that should have red flagged me to just run away, because they were dishonest from the start. Do not do business with this dealership, they are dishonest, crooked and don't give a CRAP about you as a customer. This was probably one of the worst car purchasing experiences i've ever had, and i've dealth with some shady dealers.

Dishonest, run-around, stay away!

by reggie78 on 10/26/2009

I thought I found my perfect car, a certified pre-owned with low mileage and I was able to negotiate down to a very reasonable price. I was happy, gave Balise a check in full that Sunday, the first weekend of the month. Because I am from MA, which does not allow for temporary plates, I had to wait a few days so they could get it registered for me. So, even though I paid in cash and walked out empty handed that day, I was excited to come back the following Saturday to get my great new car. Four days later, they called and said they did not have the title to the car, it was still tied up with the previous owner's lienholder, and it was going to be 10 to 12 more days before they could get the title. I was so upset, because I did not realize they sold me a car without a title! I now know that dealerships are not supposed to sell a car without a title -- or at the very least, they are supposed to have full disclosure at the time of sale. It took them 4 days to inform me of this, and in the meantime, they have my $23,000 in their bank and I have nothing! They did give me a rental car in the meantime, and made assurances that they would get the title hopefully within another week. I was willing to wait. When I called for an update, I got passed from one manager to another. Finally, I was told it would be the end of the month before they got the title. Nearly a full month after the initial purchase for which they have had all my money! I demanded my money back at that point, which they agreed to, but it was still a full week later before they gave me my check. Nothing but run-arounds, delays, false promises, and dishonesty. At the very least, they should have disclosed to me about the title from the get-go and taken only a deposit until the car had a clear title. But one arrogant manager by the name of Pete insisted that the price I negotiated was only good for that very day, kind of a take-it-or-leave-it situation. I made two big mistakes that day - I didn't ask to see the title before writing out the check, and I went forward with giving them all my money even though a deposit should have been acceptable until the car was clear to go. My mistakes, I admit. But that does not excuse how they conducted business with me, stringing me along for nearly three weeks. Now I must start all over again in my search for a car. But I will not be doing business with Balise Toyota of Warwick ever again, and I recommend that you stay away as well.

Awful Service, Waste of Time

by nickm690 on 05/18/2009

These people lie and give you the run around, they will tell you whatever they can to get you to stay on their lot. Was told the vehicle i was interested in was available by about 4 different salespeople and managers. I secured a babysitter and took time out of work to go look at it, then after an hour or so of them taking my information and the salesman "going to get" the vehicle to test drive it i was told that it didnt exist. Thanks for wasting my time Balise, will not being doing business with these people.

No Courtesy Call

by Bravo242 on 02/16/2009

I Emailed an Internet offer for for a specific VIN# on Friday, Offer was excepted Via Phone Call from Balise Toyota to me on Sat morning, an appointment was made for Monday, I arrived for the appointment early on Monday to purchase vehicle. Robert stated the vehicle was sold over the weekend. If Balise Toyota Warwick, RI dealership was squared away they would have notified me of the sale prior to my appointment rather than to waste my time going there to find out the vehicle was sold. They don't care about customers in the sales department of this dealership.
