Sales Experience Was Painful

by RMCTucson on 03/03/2018

Stay away from Elyria Hyundai if you want honest and trustworthy service from their sales, finance, and management teams. I took my first plunge into leasing a vehicle and the experience was so painful, I had to contact Hyundai USA to get some resolution. There are too many issues to list, so if you want the details, here's a summary. 1. Overcharged me for diagnosing if my old car was repairable. I pretty much knew the engine was shot since i had to have the car towed to the dealer after it was smoking and stopped. Also took way too much time due to their technician issues. 2. Their initial lease offer for a new vehicle was on average ~$30/month higher than any other local dealer. Later, they would say they were doing me a favor by reducing their offer. 3. Even though I gave a printed list of the build, the vehicle did not come with everything I wanted. After many calls, emails, meetings with sales guy and one with the manager, and escalation to Hyundai USA, I got most of these items over the course of 2.5 months. 4. The car prep was rushed and shoddy, even though I gave them an extra day or so. Even the day of picking it up, the appointment was moved from the morning to the afternoon. I had to go back the next day to get adhesive removed, and there were other prep issues as well. 5. On the day of picking up my leased car, even though they delayed my pick up time, I had to do a lot of waiting, and then I had to sit with the finance person to sign paperwork. As this point it had been hours, it was going to get dark soon and i wanted to take my new car for a drive, and I was frustrated and annoyed at all of the delays. I just wanted to get my car and go! It seemed the finance person hadn't even talked to the sales guy since she was asking me questions to which she should already have had the answers. In addition, I feel I was coerced into getting the Excess Wear coverage and didn't even know there was such a thing until then. When I tried to back out of it later, it took a while to get any response, and then I was told I'd still have to pay it throughout the lease and get my money back at lease end. Uhh, what?! In addition, they listed the initial mileage incorrectly on the lease which I didn't notice until that night. When I called the sales person the following morning, he said he had told them the mileage to record was 161, but they put 5 miles instead. When I went in the next day to get other issues addressed, he said they'd send me a check for the difference. They did send it, but ... 6. They are horrible at returning phone calls and emails, and I generally just had to show up at the dealer to get their attention. When I did finally get a meeting with the manager (with the sales guy and my wife in attendance), he was defensive and non-committal. He blamed it on bad luck, Hyundai USA, and everything else. He promised to complete the build except for one issue, and I should contact Hyundai USA, which I did. He said he'd send me a check for the mileage difference, said he could give me a few service vouchers, and complete the build except for the item to discuss with Hyundai USA. Mind you, this meeting was about 1.5 months after I picked up my leased vehicle. 7. After this meeting, while some issues were addressed, others were not. After emailing a list of outstanding issues, and bringing a physical copy to the dealer for the sales person to sign with my wife as witness, there was still no resolution. It wasn't until I said I might have to take further action and write reviews like this that I got a response from the manager. He sent a very curt email and basically said they did everything they could, reduced their price (which other dealers already met or beat), 'gave' me the things that were part of the build (except for the one item still on contention), and blamed me for having signed off on items. 8. I finally did get the check for the difference in mileage and reimbursement for an inexpensive item I bought that didn't really fix my final build issue, but was something to help. Mind you, this check was for under $50 and was 2.5 months after I got my leased vehicle. I'm sure the only reason I got that check was because Hyundai USA got involved. Still no service vouchers for all of my time and aggravation! 9. Their service department contacted me twice about setting up my first appointment, so I thought I'd give the dealer one more shot. I asked if the offer for some service vouchers was still valid. Their response? Crickets! 10. On the bright side, Hyundai USA worked with me and provided me with some resolution, thanks, Angelia! I'm going to work with another dealer going forward. So, I am still a Hyundai fan, just not an Elyria Hyundai fan.

Great Dealership

by luvmysantafe2 on 02/10/2013

By chance I drove by on a Sunday looking for a car in '09 and saw this dealership open. Never even thought of owning a Hyundai, knew nothing about them. The saleman took me around and I bought a Tuscon off the lot that day. I can honestly say that car was the best car I ever owned. Never had to take it in for any repairs other than oil chgs, rotations, etc. It went thru snow better than any of the Jeeps I owned and rode nicely. I hated thinking it was time to start looking for another car after 3.5 yrs, but finally did and went back to Elyria Hyundai. Again my salesman treated me fairly and I ended up leaving in a 2013 Santa Fe. He took time to make sure I understood how to operate all the features in my car before I left. Explained that I could stop by anytime if I needed help. So far, love this car and expect to get the same reliability out of this car as previously. This dealership gets a thumbs up from me. Honesty, Integrity, and just great to deal with. I definitely recommend them to my friends.

Stay far away!!

Buyers Beware, Beware, Beware!!!!! STAY AWAY Found a great deal through this dealership online through TrueCar. Called the sales person (Vince) who told me that he could have a car for me the next day. They needed a credit card # for a deposit to hold and get the car. They charged my credit card and the car was not there the next day or the following day. So, I called in and told them that I wanted my money back and was no longer interested in the car. Salesman told me that it was no problem and that they had shredded my credit card information. They never credited my card back. Several weeks later, I get an email from the salesman saying that my car was on the lot and when I called in and disputed, he said, "oh no, you bought the car off of us". "When you gave us the $500 dollar deposit, you paid for the car and that was your down payment". I couldn't believe it, I asked for the sales manager, and he was a [non-permissible content removed] to me. He basically said, by me giving them my credit card number and the $500 deposit to go find the car, that I was agreeing to buy the car, which is not what I was told by the Internet Sales manger that I talked to on the phone the night I gave them my deposit. When I asked the Sales Manager to put the young lady on the phone who told me that if the car was not there on the lot, that my money would be refunded, he responded by saying, "she no longer works here". The sales manager is Joe and he is a [non-permissible content removed] and argued with me for over 15 minutes and ended the call by saying, we held up our end of the deal and got the car here, and you backed out. He also said, "if you want your money back, come buy your car off our lot!!"I responded by saying, I was ready to drive up to your dealership to get my car and it still wasn't there. Two weeks later the car shows up and they call me and say that I paid for it. Needless to say, I called my credit card company and they happily credited my money back and couldn't believe that they did that. Moments after I got off the phone with my credit card company, I received a call from Vince, the original sales person, who says, you should not have asked to talk to the sales manager. We held up our end of the deal and I got you, the car you wanted. He then proceeded to say, that he was working on getting my money back to me. I couldn't believe it!!!  Please do not give them your credit card #, go to the lot and see the car yourself before buying, and do your research on the extended warranty they offer. I found only two repair shops 40 miles away from my house that honor the warranty. I don't know how these people sleep at night :( STAY FAR AWAY

Horrible Dealership

by unhappytoo on 10/30/2011

I would never recommend this dealership to anyone purchasing a Hyundai. The sales and service personnel don't care after they have made their money. Steer clear!

Stay away from this dealer

by sivicman on 09/29/2011

My wife was in the market for a 2012 Sonota SE and went into Truecar.com and spec'ed out the car and asked for quotes from participating dealers. Elyria Hyundai responded with a great price, so we put together a deal over the internet. We told them what our local dealer was willing to give us on a trade for our car and the salesman (Vince Cuffaro) said he could match that trade in price. I called Vince and said are you sure you can give us that price on the trade in or do you want me to drive the car 100 miles to you so can appraise the car, and he said not necessary I do these types of deals all the time. He said when your car comes in bring the car at that time and I will make sure you get what you want for your trade. My wife has all the emails back and forth printed out with the price of the new car, the trade in price, the interest rate for the loan etc. My wife even sent an email to Vince days before we went to pick up the vehicle and said just to make sure there are no misunderstandings and we're on the same page on everything and he replied everything is good to go. We drive 100 miles to get the car and Vince is not in so the sales manager (Tom) starts the paperwork and says there's a problem. He says I can't sell you this car at this price and there's no way I'm giving you that much for your trade in for a car without appraising it. He apologizes and says this deal should have never been made that this is 100% our fault. He asked to read all of the emails that Vince had sent showing everything was in writing. Even after reading all the correspondences that we had a deal in writing they still would not honor the price. My wife and I ending up going home without her new car. Truecar.com guarantees the price of the new car and we have filed a complaint with them. To add insult to injury Tom the sales mgr. from Elyria calls our local dealer the same day and says do not do business with these people if they should come to your dealership. How unprofessional can you get. This is by far the worst experience I've ever had buying a new car.

boughtRAV4

Very dissapointed with the integrity of this dealership. I was in the market for a 2009 Hundai Santa Fe. I was quoted a good price on my internet price quote. When I went to the dealership to deal in person and get a trade in value for my car, the trade in value they gave me was an insult and to make matters worse they discounted from the trade in value the sales tax incentive the government was offering at the time. I just walked out the door.

Low pressure, but lousy experience

by newcarbuyer18 on 09/05/2009

I had a low-pressure experience here that ended on a very sour note. I negotiated a deal with a salesman on the evening of Sept 3rd on a new Hyundai Santa Fe. Since it was closing time and I needed my wife to also sign on the purchase, they told me to come back on Sept 5th to finalize things. The salesman also wanted to get the final approval from either the GM or owner (can't remember which), since this was a below-invoice deal. I come in on the 5th, and we go through the terms of the deal again. We are only $12 apart (due to them assuming 15 days of interest before my trade-in is paid off vs. me assuming 5 days). The salesman asks me to initial indicating that I'll buy today on those terms and he'll get the sales manager's approval. He comes back and says, "oops, I made a mistake. The used car manager was already assuming $1,000 of bonus cash in your trade-in offer, but didn't tell me that before." So essentially, they were raising the price of the car by a $1,000 right before it was time to sign the papers. The salesman seemed somewhat embarrassed, so I like to think it was an honest mistake, but you can't help but have doubts. This really soured what was otherwise a decent, low-pressure experience at this dealer. Either someone was incompetent or was trying to pull a fast one. Either way, it ruined my experience there. I walked and unfortunately won't be bringing my business to them.

Good Investment

by raj201 on 05/05/2008

I recently purchased a 2008 Sonata GLS from Elyria Hyundai. I believe the money I have invested in the car at this dealership is well spent. The warranty for the vehicle is evidence that the dealership and the company stand behind the workmanship and engineering put into this car. The service department has been very accommodating and the free car washes are a nice addition to the purchase. My wife feels comfortable enough with the people at the dealership to return by herself when she has any concerns or questions. Regardless of who she has dealt with, sales or service, she has always left the dealership feeling like they took her concerns seriously and answered her questions completely. If you decide to buy a car from them please mention that you saw this review.
