CarMax Winston-Salem - Now offering Express Pickup and Home Delivery

All car max dealers seem the same - an army of on-line bots and boiler room phone people. I did find several cars I like, one at the Raleigh, NC store and one at the Winston-Salem, NC store. My bad experience with both was the same. I have cash to buy and a trade in but can't access a human at the sales site to get information via e-mail. I'm hard of hearing and can't do the phone, and when my wife tried to explain that to a person she finally got on the phone, they actually laughed at her. So, I've blocked car max in my vehicle searches permanently and took the time to document my experience. There are plenty of dealers out there that will work with you honestly and in a helpful way.

First the negatives, car was listed about 800 above both edmonds and nada pricing. it was a 2012 Mazda 3 hatchback. Second and most importantly, because of negative reviews i had read about how the inspections were not as good as they used to be, I took the car to my mechanic after I purchased it. He felt the front brake pads should have been replaced. I took the car back and they checked the brakes and admitted they did not meet the carmax spec and replace the pads,and calipers and turned the rotors. They were very apologetic for missing this. It may have been an error in recording the measurements on the report for all I know but based on other reviews I had read I would recommend that buyers have the car checked out by their mechanics. Now for the positive, I dealt with 2 sales people, and they were both very friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and non pushy. It was a very pleasant experience and I would buy a car again from Carmax. Unfortunately we had a deadline for buying a car, other wise I would have walked away from this one because of the price and continued to shop with them.
