Great purchase on a great car!

by jhinsc on 09/17/2016

I haven't had good luck with my last several cars. My 2013 Prius v was rear-ended in an accident and declared totaled. Looking for another car with a lot of room and great fuel mileage, I chose the 2014 Passat TDI as its replacement. Well we all know about the VW diesel problem and was prepared to wait for the buyback. But the A/C stopped working and the dealer quoted me $1,500 for repairs - on a car I'm turning back in several months. Seriously? I liked the way the Passat drove I was willing to buy a gas model, even though it wouldn't have the same fuel mileage I'm used to. But when I casually inquired, it didn't seem the dealer was serious about offering me suitable deal. The Sonata Hybrid was the only other car at the top of my list. The improvements made to the 2016 model made it very attractive to me and I did hours of research to make that decision. So I search my local dealers, and dealers in Charleston, Wilmington, and Charlotte areas. Low and behold I came across Keith Hawthorne Hyundai, loved what I saw online, made an online inquiry, and CP (Chris Perry) called. We talked a bit to make sure he knew what I wanted and said he would call back. He called back in about 10 min, cut to the chase about the numbers, almost exactly what I was looking for, so right then I agreed to purchase the car! I gave a deposit over the phone and picked the day I would come pick it up. I LOVE doing business that way! It was well worth my drive to Gastonia from Myrtle Beach. I credit CP for making this happen and being a pleasure to work with. Kelsey and Sean were also very helpful in making my purchase smooth and effortless. Thank you so much and if/when I'm in the market again for another vehicle, you can bet you're at the top of my list to buy another one!

I was sold a wrecked vehicle

by skinnyben on 06/05/2014

I purchased a 2009 jeep wrangler from the dealership a little over a year ago and this past weekend I went to trade it in for a truck at another dealership I was informed it was in a passenger side collision. I wasn't informed of this when purchasing the vehicle. If I would have known this I wouldnt have purchased it. When I contacted the dealership about the issue they blew me off and said that they didn't have to disclose the information to me if not asked for it. The sales woman and I had discussed the small dent I saw in it and she said she wasnt sure. The only thing the sales manager had to say was since it was on the Ford lot then thats why they didnt know about it.i definitely will never by a vehicle from any Keith Hawthorne dealership again and will not suggest anyone else too. Once the deal is made the only time you can get good service is when they try to sell you another vehicle.

Bought a car on Wed. had to return it on Monday.

by ktongel on 04/24/2012

I had called and given the salesman at Keith Hawthorn all our information, he assured us we could purchase a new Sonata and keep the payments within our budget. He took our credit app. over the phone, called us back and scheduled an appointment for 11:30 am. We arrived on time looked at the new Sonata's and settled on the one we "loved". After 3 1/2 hours of the salesman and the manager offering and counter offering, taking less than we were first offered for our trade we finally settled on a price. (They kept my keys and licences so we couldn't leave, which we tried to do ). After meeting with the finance manager we were told there could be a problem with the lease but he felt so confident that he could work it out he let us sign the papers and leave with the car. On the following Monday I took the car back to the dealership to have the car detailed. When I arrived the finance manager met me at the door, I was informed that there was a problem with the lease, I was asked to turn in the keys. I offered to make a larger down payment, buy instead of lease. I was told that he couldn't reach anyone on the phone. He gave me my down payment back, my keys and hurried me out the door, with a promise to callus back if he could make things work.. I felt humiliated, as if I had had the car repossessed, my wife was in tears. We hadn't heard anything back from the finance manager by 5:30, so we bought a Toyota Camery. No hassle, no lease, lower payments. At 7:30 the finance manager from keith Hawthorn called back to say he had worked out the problems and we could pick up our Sonata... To bad, we loved the Sonata, but Toyota of Gastonia has now earned a loyal customer and Keith Hawthorn is stuck with a "new" car that has 600 miles.

Very responsive, but a few flaws

by johnnycake1 on 02/24/2011

I asked for a quote on a specific model and featured Sante Fe via internet. Received a detailed and specific answer to the request in contrast to 2 other Hyundai dealers. Went to drive the car and received good service from the internet sales person. However, they were understaffed at the moment and I had to wait over half an hour for someone to take me for the test drive. Took my wife back for a test drive with an appointment and service was good. Dealership still looked a bit under staffed and spartan. Price was very competitive, even though financing rate was not. 3.9% for 60 months versus 1.9% at Honda. Difference was about $1,000 over 60 mos for the amount I would finance. I prefered the Sonata to the Honda CR-V, but my wife liked the CR-V better. Wives win. If the financing rate had been equal, the Sonata might have won. I would have had no problem buying from this dealer.

Best Experience in Charlotte!

by linzven3 on 11/12/2009

I had been searching for a car for two months and had finally narrowed it down to the Hyundai Santa Fe. I met with 3 dealerships that said they could get me what I needed at the price I needed but I still felt uneasy. Finally tired of doing anymore research, I decided to call one more place even though it was outside of Charlotte to make sure I was getting the best deal. That place happened to be Keith Hawthrone Hyundai. I went there and after meeting with them once I knew that I would be purchasing from there. My sales guy Adam walked me through the entire Santa Fe so I knew exactly what I was getting and no other sales person had done that for me. He took the time to make sure I understood all the information and had no hesitations about the car or the dealership for that matter. After deciding on the car, Anthony the GM was very proactive in helping me get the car financed and exactly where I needed to be on the monthly payments. I would recommend them to any person purchasing a Hyundai or any another car. They will find you what you need/want and are definitely the best in town!

Great Experience

by nurse2safrica on 08/17/2008

I purchased a new vehicle through this dealer recently. All of the employees were helpful and friendly. The salesman and finance person bent over backwards to help me. It was a great experience and I have told everyone I know that this is a great place to buy a car.

The Best Car Buying Experience I've ever had

by lynobrien on 07/17/2008

Let me start by saying that I would rather have a root canal than buy a car, or at least that is how I felt prior to my experience at Keith Hawthorne Hyundai in Gastonia. I worked directly with Sales Manager Anthony Lutz and from the very beginning he put me at ease and held true to their value of a "No Hassle Car Buying Experience". Anthony is very professional yet very personable. He made me feel like I was the most important thing he had going on at the time. There was no pressure or "sales tactics" Anthony answered my questions honestly and he did not waste my time. He made a promise to me and he followed that promise all the way through to the end. I wish car buying was this easy everywhere. Other dealerships could learn from the Keith Hawthorne / Anthony Lutz approach. Thanks to everyone from sales, management and finance for making my new car purchase a pleasurable and satisfying experience.

Outstanding!

by hnorris on 06/20/2008

My family and I recently purchased a vehicle from Keith Hawthorne Hyundai. From the begining, our experience was outstanding! The vehicle was for me and the sales consultant, Robin, didn't constantly look to my husband for approval. She asked me questions about what I wanted in a vehicle then showed me several models that she thought would fit my lifestyle. We test drove several and finally decided on a Vera Cruz. Unlike most of our car buying experiences, the sales consultant did not run back and forth several times to her "manager" that you never see but the manager actually came out and met us and we agreed on a price immediately. It couldn't have gone more smoothly! From A to Z our experience was great and we will be going back when it is time for the next family member to purchase a Hyundai. Thanks Keith Hawthorne Hyundai!!!! We LOVE our Vera Cruz!!!

the best ever

by relievedmom on 06/16/2008

I am a young woman that has bought my share of cars and I typically hate going to dealerships. When I went to Keith Hawthorne I expected to have the same experience that I have always had, but that was not the case. There wasn't three or four salesmen "jumping" me as soon as I got out of the car and overall it was by far the most enjoyable, stress free car purchase that I have ever made. From the moment I first spoke to someone, until I left, even when I returned to get my car cleaned, it was the first time that I've actually felt like a saleman and dealership actually wanted to make me happy and not just sell me a car. They do things a little different than what you would expect, and are great at what they do. As i warmed up to the salesman, his sales manager came out to "say hello." After a brief conversation I told him that I was just doing some research, as most of us do to get them to ease up. He actually promised me that he wouldn't sell me a car if I promised I wouldn't buy one. I have small children and a budget like everybody else, and for the first time I was never asked to go over it. They actually listened to what I needed in my vehicle, and what I wanted. I am a pretty picky individual and very hard to please. No matter what hill I gave them to climb, they did everything they could to climb it! There was a few that they couldn't, but when that was the case they explained it to me and told me the TRUTH! I really feel like they would have rather let me leave without buying a vehicle than sell me something I wouldn't be happy with, or that was just out of my budget. Nobody ever pressured me to do anything that i wasnt comfortable with. The sales manager that came out in the beginning returned frequently to make sure that I was being taken care of. After my experience, i felt i had to let everyone know that this dealership is on its game, and i would recommend them to everyone. Like i said, they do things differently and it really works!!

Bad Business

by blessed6 on 06/03/2008

My husband and I purchased a vehicle from this dealership and prior to buying the vehicle we test drove it and dicovered the brakes were bad, and the air bag light was on. The salesman assured us that they would fix the brakes, and the air bag was still under factory warranty, so they would have that fixed as well. Day one, we left the vehicle at the dealership and were promised that the labor would be done within two days....We went back to pick up the vehicle and after getting half way home, noticed that the brakes were still squealing, the air bag light was off however they did not put the screws back into place where they took the panaling off the door. Called back to the dealership and they told us to bring it back, we left the vehicle once again. Next few days we went back to pick it up and was greeted by someone working in the service dept with a very bad attitude. (By this time everyone knew who we were.) We picked up the vehicle and the brakes were still doing the very same thing. So we then took it to another shop located in Gastonia and were informed that the brakes were NOT new and the rotors had not been turned. We then got a print out from that shop and took it to the dealership, this time my husband told them to show him the new brake pads and the old ones and were they turned the rotors. They could not get to the vehicle at that very moment so we ended up sitting there for 5 hours waiting on them to fix this vehicle correctly. They told us that they did not have the brake pad so they had to order them and that they were being delivered from a store that was located up the street as they said. After all this was said and done the brakes were never fixed correctly by the service dept. We ended up having to pay to have them fixed when they should of done the right thing from the beginning. They would not even compensate us.

Stay away from this dealer

by stayaway on 01/25/2008

All was fine until the papers were signed. After that you are forgotten. I bought a Tiburon and on my way home I noticed the ashtray was full of butts. Why would the butts even be there? Called and they said they would take care of it. Had it cleaned up and when I got in, the butts were still there. Then I noticed a chip in the paint, they said no problem our paint guy will be here tomorrow we will call you. They never called, so I called them and the guy was already gone.By the way I had taken the day off to have that done. Also the car was missing the books and keyless entry remotes and they said they would order them and call me. I had to call them and then they had to be programmed, but the service dept. closes at 5 and is not open on Saturday. I don`t get off work in time to have this done and requested someone stay to get it done. They acted like I should not even be requesting something like that. I guess they thought I should leave work early. Basically after the sale I got a lot of apologizes and a lot of people dropping the ball. So if you go here make sure you are satisfied before you leave
