Insulted, Berated, Cussed at, simply trying to buy a car??

by keveric on 11/27/2016

Myself and my friend visited Toyota of Gastonia today looking to possibly purchase a vehicle. Our salesman, who any ability to be personable, professional, or even show any sort of human emotion returned to the bargaining table with a more than insulting trade offer($2000- When KBB states lowest possible was $2971 with a range to $4000) and up-priced the vehicle we came to look at $21,900 when it was advertised at $16,900. This is a 2013 Toyota RAV4 XLE front wheel drive with almost 39,000 miles on it...lol You can get a the SAME model in Asheville with AWD and 28,000 for $20,950 Gastonia Toyota people. So after wasting our time playing games and insulting us with a low price trade value and over-pricing their car(basically changing the price of their car to make it look like we were getting a bigger deal) we left hastily as to NOT waste anymore of our Sunday afternoon. After leaving we received a call from BRIAN SIMMONS General Manager of Sales at Toyota Gastonia who is supposed to be a professional. He said he was calling to smooth things over. I merely expressed my apprehension at dealing with car dealerships and when he realized he was dealing with someone who goes into a dealership with their homework done, car prices/values(retail and wholesale), applicable interest rates, etc. he became irritated and called me a "Arrogant [non-permissible content removed]." I did not cuss at this man, nor raise my voice, nor call him a name. I was in the middle of a conversation merely discussing my apprehension in dealing with car salesmen. And boy did he really prove my point! He went on the further explain that "CUSTOMERS ARE LIARS TOO A LOT." And stated that he would not sell a car to a "[non-permissible content removed] LIKE ME." lol Well Mr. BRIAN SIMMONS I have no intention of buying a car from your dealership that can't take two seconds to understand my views and opinions. All you cared about BRIAN SIMMONS GENERAL MANAGER of Toyota of Gastonia was pushing an over-priced vehicle onto me with bald tires, only 1 key, was sitting on your lot for 1-2 months as per your salesman, wouldn't start at first, and that was not in the condition that the pictures you had posted on-line. BRIAN SIMMONS you are by far a professional at anything, other than pushing sub par, over-priced vehicles onto unsuspecting consumers. I have never in my life dealt with such a fowl-mouthed individual who claims to be the GENERAL MANAGER OF SALES? Perhaps you should go back to school and learn respect and get some respect for yourself as you had no right to talk to me that way as I did not talk to you that way. Shame on you BRIAN SIMMONS. I will be sure to forward my comments to Toyota Motor Co. of America as well. Consumers beware this car dealership, under the management of BRIAN SIMMONS, does not have your best interest at heart. The moment I asked Mr. Simmons to explain certain items to me he blew up, screamed, and resorted to name-calling. Is this someone you want to trust investing your hard earned money with? This is America and I have to right, as a conscientious consumer, to ask questions to safe guard my choices in purchase. BRIAN SIMMONS wants NO QUESTIONS ASKED QUICK SALES....then who gets stuck with the LEMON and the BIG PAYMENTS ......YOU! It's called freedom of speech BRIAN SIMMONS. Signed, A Concerned Consumer.

Misleading Is Lying

by ronjohn9898 on 07/19/2016

I wrestled with whether i was going write this review and let the new car go, or simply suck it up, just so I can have a new car. I will start with the positive. I have had credit history issues in the past and this dealership worked exceptionally hard to get me approved with financing. The rate, car note, and down payment were all fair considering my credit history. Everyone was very courteous and respectful. They were actually able to get me approved on a brand new 2016 Camry. I commend and thank this for their time, effort, and energy in this regard. This is where everything goes left and you feel like you are dealing with a typical used car sales place. I feel hustled. Hustled out of my time. Hustled out of my energy. Hustled out of a new car. I was informed the deal was done and all I need to do was come sign some paperwork and pick up the car. I asked several times (because i have had bad car sales experiences in the past) was everything ok and did I need to bring anything else. I was provided with the down payment amount and i made it clear I did not have it this moment but I can leave a check to secure it that can be deposited. At no point did ANYONE tell me I needed the entire 2k cash to leave the dealership with the car. I would have never went to the dealership today, knowing I didnt have the full deposit, if the information on the deposit has been provided. After a 45 minute drive to the dealership (that I actually told my salesman I was going to Uber to...what if i had actually taken an Uber I would have been stranded. I drove only because Uber didnt service this area), almost 2 1/2 hours of waiting, I signed all the papers, and at that point I told I needed the full 2k in cash to seal the deal. Its not about the money. Its about my TIME! 2 to 2/12 hours of my time, 45 minute drive there, and 45 minute drive back. Thats 4 hours of my time that I could have been working completely wasted for no reason.Time is the one commodity that you can never get back. I wasted hours this morning waiting when I could have been told prior to going to the dealership or dont make me sit there 2 1/2 hours to tell me this, especially when I have been told a check was ok. Why would you let me sit there all morning knowing I dont even have the deposit you required????? YOU DO NOT DO PEOPLE LIKE THAT! Its impolite and disrespectful of other people's time and efforts. Maybe I was considered a subprime person because I used a subprime lender. You shouldn't offer subprime services, if you cant treat you subprime customers with the same respect you treat you A1 credit customers. We all are spending our money (in most instances subprime people spend a whole lot more money).

Excellent customer service

by customer113 on 03/10/2016

I recently purchased a vehicle from Toyota of Gastonia and the customer service was amazing. After searching for a few months for the right vechile, I decided to try Toyota. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted by Lamar House, my sales representative. He was a Gem. He has a great personality and was not pushy like several other salesmen I had previously dealt with at other dealerships. He made me feel comfortable and we eventually found the right car for me, a Cadillac SRV. From there I met Dan, the sales manager another great personality at this dealership. He was very honest and pleasant. My next contact was Wood Mitchell, the financial manager. He was just as amazing as the other two. He even added a nice warrenty to the vechile I was purchasing, which I was not expecting to get. Since my purchase of this vechile I had to bring it to service for one minor issue. Lamar once again was amazing and my problem was fixed in less than 30 minutes. From my experience thus far, I would rate Toyota of Gastonia 5 stars. They have an amazing team which truly care about their customers. I would recommend them to anyone. KB

Surprised.....

by corkyf on 03/28/2011

Got car fever after seeing a Toyota Highlander at the ACC tournament. Went online and used toyota's website to build the Highlander I wanted. The dealer didn't didn't have it on the lot, but could get it pretty quick. I also like the price they quoted online for the car. I'd checked the wholesale value of my trade in and knew what I wanted to do. Picked up the phone and called their Internet sales manager. We basically worked the deal over the phone. When the car arrived, I simply took my car and title over and had the deal completed within 45 minutes. When I got the car home, I noticed it didn't have one of the items on the deal we'd made (extra dark tent on windowglass.....that I really didn't want) I wanted to add a hitch and when I called the salesman.....they deducted the cost of the window tent from the hitch cost......took it back by and they had the hitch installed in about 45 minutes. They also spent about 45 minutes working with me to help get my cell phone bluetooth paired with the auto. This was above the call of duty. I was impressed with everyone I encountered at the dealership......salesman, financing, sales manager, and service.

One Word "DECEITFUL"

by sandro123 on 11/17/2008

The dealership had an anoucment in the radio saying that the will payoff the amount you owed in the car, if a deal was reached. Once i was there and started the paper work after 2 hours the sales rep came and said that the couldn't fine a bank that would finance the loan that they would have to speak wit hthe banks personally on moanday. It was odd because the car was only 16,767. But ok, today monday 17, 2008, i called and spoke with the finance guys and said that suntrus was welling to work with the number but i needed to know the correct amount, so i was told almost 27,000. so when i asked about the advertisment in the radio, he said that it mention that they will pay for the car but the amount would be transfer to your loan, and no where in the advertisment this clause was mention. It is not only missleading, but also downlow sneaky and unethical practice. I fell that in today economy crisis, this type of businees dealing should be punish to the fullest.
