Purchased Used 4Runner...Great Experience!!!

My daughter Ashley purchased a really nice 2008 Toyota 4Runner from Mark Jacobson last week with 105K miles. She has 330K on her current 4Runner and this was the only vehicle that she would consider. Being she could not afford a new 4Runner, we started several weeks ago looking for a good used one. After going to several major dealerships (Leith and Hendricks) in the Cary/Apex area we headed to Mark Jacobson in Durham to test drive the 4Runner that she ended up purchasing. Mark Jacobson not only had the best used vehicles on the lot, but the best sales people as well, especially Jimmy Crawford and the sales manager Andrew Severage (he is a Vet). We took the 4Runner to an outside mechanic and they verified that it was a good "solid" car. There were a few minor cosmetic issues, which they gladly agreed to repair/replace. They also included a 30 day 1000 mile warranty and a 3 day 100 mile buy back policy...unheard of for a used vehicle. Andrew also secured excellant financing for my daughter through Coastal Federal Credit Union. Completing the loan paperwork was made easy by Emory Parsons. Even if your budget is tight, I would recommend the additional Gap insurance coverage. The Service Dept has been fantastic as well, especially Michelle Jacobs who made sure that everything was handled timely. Although Ashley lives in Greenville, it was well worth the drive to Mark Jacobson...make sure that you ask for Jimmy Crawford...he is knowledgeable and treated us very well. Overall a great 5 STAR experience!

No-Nonsense Car Buying Experience

You go into a car-buying situation prepared to deal with shady salespeople who run you around and try to sneak in extra charges right and left. It's just what you do. And I did experience that at other Toyota dealers, but ... Then you waltz into a dealership you've researched thoroughly, hesitantly hoping they live up to their reputation, and BAM! You buy a car (well ... a truck) and you're just impressed. A shout out to Jason Schiffman, Army badass, for exceeding my expectations, and even winning over my skeptical husband. Another shout out to Bob Joyce, Marine badass, for working out the terms of the loan. We left feeling like we had two new friends. I so appreciate the buying experience we had and look forward to continuing business with Mark Jacobson Toyota in Durham! A+ all the way.

I am still baffled

On 6/19/2014 I went to test drive a 2014 Toyota FJ Cruiser. It was beautiful and I wanted it very badly. I drove it and knew before I pulled out of the parking lot that I wanted it. We get back to the Mark Jacobson Toyota and we go inside to talk numbers. Before I went to the dealership, I went on true cars and got some prices from 3 different dealerships. Mark Jasobson was the highest, but I was assured that MJ Toyota would match the prices of the other dealerships. My brother bought a 4 runner a few years back from there and said that MJ Toyota would do right by me. The salesperson asks to see the quotes and then disappears to go speak with the manager (Supposedly it was the general manager. Anyway, 10 minutes or so go by before the salesperson returns. "I'm sorry, we can not match the price. There is no way we can lose that much money on an FJ." Even though they said they would match the price and didnt, I was willing to see what kind of numbers we could work out. I asked him what kind of price did they have in mind. He disappears again, comes back and still does not have a price. By this time, I am starting to wonder if they just don't want to sell a car... I still can not understand why... I ask again what they can do. He goes to talk numbers one last time. AGAIN, he comes back with nothing!!! I am getting angry by this point. Then, I show him the price from their own website for the vehicle I was looking at. The salesperson then tells me that the price isn't right because they added tint, a pin stripe, and nitrogen in the tires... I replied "That;s funny because those options are already listed on here at this price." Uhh uhhh... uhhh... He walks out to grab the window sticker. The price is $1k higher on the sticker. Oh well, no big deal... I still want this vehicle because it is awesome and I just know we can start to work a deal even though I am getting the run around this entire time. Well, Nope.... Nothing.. They didnt even want to talk numbers. No clue why? I wasn't dressed like a thug, nor was I rude in any way whatsoever. I had a check in my pocket that all I had to do is put the amount on it and sign it. I could not believe why they did not even try to talk price at all. They would not even say we will take nothing less than sticker.. I got NOTHING. Not to mention, I have a 783 credit score if I did want to finance. I end up saying forget it and went to get my key to my truck from the manager. (FYI, my truck is paid off and I did not have to trade it, I was just curious as to what I would get for it.) I asked for my key and the "general manager" would not so much as look up at me when I spoke to him. I felt so insulted, which is near impossible to do. I have never been in ANY dealership, EVER, that was not trying anything possible to get me in a car. Here is what made me so mad that I nearly lost my cool. As I turn around, one of those little condescending little men said in this sarcastic tone, "its been a pleasure meeting you." It took every fiber of my being not to turn around and go off. Needless to say, I will NEVER go to Mark jacobson Toyota ever again. I do not care if MJ himself calls me to tell me they will sell me that FJ for $1000. I left the dealership, returned a call from the internet sales manager at Mid State Toyota in Asheboro. Drove straight there and within two hours, I walked out of there with a better model FJ with zero hassle and a great price. Mark Jacobson Toyota lost a loyal customer who is going to buy a new car for his wife in 2 weeks. I hope Mark Jacobson himself knows that because of those two individuals, $60k + of my families business was lost. Not to mention anyone who asks me where I got my beautiful FJ!

Edwin C in sales is wonderful!!!

Edwin took our 80 year old mother on tests drives of the rav 4, Avalon, prius and camry when she was buying a car. My father had always shopped for cars and my mother had never test driven a car or had to decide what type of car to buy. She finally decided on a camry-- we checked at several dealerships and Mark Jacobson had the best price for her camry. Edwin did a great job!

I love my new Prius. The fuel economy is amazing! My sales rep, Edwin C made buying this car so easy - he listened to my needs and found the perfect car for me. I will always buy my cars in the future from Edwin - he is someone I trust - he is a top-notch professional!

good salesman, bad manager

The manager didn't honor prior agreements and tried to raise the price on the quote already given. It took forever, and the only reason I stuck with it is because of a great salesman Drew F. If you must buy from this dealership (terrible service department - they will screw you over every time, like they have me and others, as reported here), but if you must buy the car at this dealership, see Drew F - he is the best salesman there - honest, straight-up, reliable, patient, and knowledgeable. He will do his best for you to have a good experience.

Mr E, my sales person was very nice as well as helpful,warm and friendly I had an issue it was taken care of once the issue got back to him. even though I had an issue I WOULD GO BACK TO MARK JACOBSON. must Say I love my little Echo so far.

Saleswoman for my wife!

This rating is because of Barbara D. She was the main reason my wife wanted to go back. I wanted to shop some more for a deal, but my wife was so impressed with Barbara. We bought our new RAV4 and got the deal we wanted. We had to haggle, but I expected that with any dealer. Barbara was a true professional the entire time. The other person that should get some credit is Emory. He was patient and got what I needed to make the payments work. Mark J needs to make one less commercial and give Emory and Barbara either a day off or buy them dinner!! I will buy my next Toyota from this dealership, if Barbara is there!!

Best dealership and salesperson (Jeremy B) I have ever had in 50 years

I have purchased a lot of cars during the last 50 or so years. Mark Jacobson has crafted the most professional and helpful sales group I have every encountered. First, they give you a very decent deal up front. No card-player haggling. There personnel are all just concerned about one thing......the customer. My sales person, Jeremy, did everything possible to make me comfortable. I have never felt so satisfied with a salesperson before. Their finance and finishing department are all layered in a careful manner as not to overwhelm the customer. You are presented with each layers of the decision process separately after a careful tutoring by the sales person. Ditto for finance and the final finish or send off. They make sure you understand all of the features of the car before you leave the lot. This is my second experience with Mark's dealership and I plan on returning. Mr. J is so affable in a non pressure atmosphere that he and I had an extended conversation on baseball, a passion we both share. Heck, buying a car from MJT is fun!! You really must give it a try. I drove all the way from Raleigh. Its worth the 20 minute travel. You will not be disappointed.

Great Salesperson

We have purchased many cars over the past decades in four states, and by far Alex Savio D at Mark Jacobson Toyota in Durham, NC was the best salesperson we have ever experienced. Buying cars has never been an easy or truly enjoyable experience; however, considering the context of purchasing automobiles, Alex was the most knowledgeable, personable, and experienced salesperson we have met. He was patient and helpful in walking through the complicated negotiations and the eventual closing of the sale over a six-hour period from start to finish. We highly recommend the dealership and that potential customers request Alex as a salesperson when they visit Mark Jacobson Toyota. I doubt you'll find a better one.

Outstanding service

I have been taking my Camry to Mark Jacobson's for service since moving to the area and had been pleased with their work. When it was time to replace it, my wife and I went to Mark Jacobson's to see what they had available. We found very helpful and friendly staff members who assisted us in all aspects of our purchase of a used Prius. The process went very smoothly, and we are very happy with our car!

Wouldn"t go anywhere else to buy vehicle

We personally have purchased 3 vehicles from this dealership and consider Frank A, our sales person, the real deal and truly the best of the best! He made sure he made the deal we wanted and needed happen. Additionally, two of our children have purchased cars and Frank was their "go to" person who made it happen. Between us all, we have purchased 5 cars from this dealership through Frank A in the last 6 months. You watch the "cheesy" commercials of this dealership, and if you were like me, you think it may not be the real deal...I will tell you, me and my family will not purchase any other vehicle from any other dealership and will ALWAYS go to Frank A! You will not go wrong if you go to this dealership to get your vehicle!

Great buying experience

I recently purchased a new Toyota Tundra from Mark J. Greg B was my Sales Consultant; he was very knowledgeable about the truck and great to work with. Greg's manager Walter H and Robert P did a great job working through the final negotiation with me and getting the best Financing. Edgar R and team did a great job with vehicle delivery. I was skeptical given the other reviews here, but really had a great buying experience and would recommend them again!

Pretty good but could be better.

Was looking to trade in my old truck for something a small SUV. Found a 2000 Toyota Rav4 that was slightly over priced but I didn't want a large car payment so it worked out. Saul was the sales rep and he did OUTSTANDING!!! He insured that the SUV I was getting was working properly there was a minor dent in the vehicle that he insured was taken out. I even forgot something in my truck that he mailed to me after I left. If it wouldn't have been for Saul I probably wouldn't have bought from there. It is an ok dealership but has alot of potential. If you do go there GO SEE SAUL!!! I don't trust used car dealers but this guy is actually honest and works hard to make sure you get what you want.

False Advertising by Mark Jacobson Toyota

COMPLAINT ACTIVITY REPORT Case # 11068536 Better Business Bureau Mark Jacobson Toyota 4516 Durham Chapel Hill Blvd Durham, NC 27707-2511 [Phone number deleted] Consumer's Original Complaint : They sold me a Prius 2 telling me it was a Prius 3. They also falsely advertise complete satisfaction guaranteed. On 6-25-2011 I was sold a 2011 Toyota Prius that was advertised to be a Prius 3 for $29714.40 A few days later I discovered it to only be a Prius 2 even though they even stated Prius III on the title documentation. I have a web printout of a Google search of the VIN that shows them selling it as a Prius 3. While not denying their false advertising they only offered to roll back the deal. That was unacceptable to us because of the time and effort in securing financing and that there were no other low mileage Prius models available. Also Mark Jacobson Toyota is engaging in blatant false advertising by advertising "complete satisfaction guaranteed". That is a blatant lie and is textbook false advertising. They also did not honor their website offer for our trade in. Consumer's Desired Resolution: The honest and honorable thing for them to do is simply refund me the difference between the base price of a Prius 2 and the base price of a Prius 3 since I was told I was buying a Prius 3 and they had been publicly advertising the car as a Prius 3. Show me the Salespeople!

The folks at this dealership are completely clueless about what good customer service means. anyone and everyone KNOWS that the essence of GOOD customer service is forming a relationship with customers – a relationship that that individual customer feels that they would like to pursue. Hint to the "salespeople", you're judged by what you DO/NOT DO. After speaking to one of the "salespeople", they urged me to come in. They met me at the door and sat me down for HOURS. Somewhere along the line, it never occured to them that the key to success for any salesperson is being HELPFUL. I don't think it's too much to ask for them to DO THEIR JOB! It seems the salespeople are BLATANTLY ONLY interested in making the sale. It would be nice if they could just PRETEND to be interested in the CUSTOMER. After all, if it were not for the customer, Mark Jacobson would NEVER be in business. The disorganization and the non-communication that goes on in the place is mind boggling. There's tons of other dealers in the area, please visit them.

Sales Manager...pushy...agressive.

I WAS interested in buying a car through this dealership. I enjoy working with a sales rep and getting to know that person. My rep was fine...the sales manager took it upon himself for some reason to start calling me....several times....very aggressive....no real relationship with customer....makes you feel like a MARK in some card game...rather than a valued customer....If you want to feel DEVALUED...shop here....I don't trust these guys as far as you can throw em.
