AVOID ANY GARCIA CAR ESTABLISHMENT

by ewade505 on 09/06/2017

Update: A A Ron (salesman) from Garcia Honda just called me and tried to blast me telling me he doesn't appreciate my negative review and that its hurting his sales representative business. He began arguing with me instead of apologizing and trying to make it right. These guys are a perfect example of a failing business. AVOID GARCIA HONDA AND OTHER GARCIA ESTABLISHMENTS AS THEY WILL WASTE YOUR VALUABLE TIME! 9/6/17: Garcia Honda Visit Was about to commit to purchasing a vehicle, contingent upon a weird vibration/noise being resolved on their vehicle. Sales manager (MIKE) agreed to give me the balance of my car loan for my trade. When it came to putting pen to paper, I was offered $600 less than the agreed trade value. I explicitly stated I needed the balance of my loan for my trade and that was agreed on before we got to this stage. After I complained, they acted like it was no big deal and then the Sales Manager says he has to call his director to get approval, then states they can only do $1500 less than my balance. So it went from $600 less to $1500 less? WTF kind of sales tactic does this dealer teach its employees? Why even open your doors to the public because you're obviously not trying to sell cars. You lost a sale over trying to squeeze me for an extra $600, then became more greedy by trying to get $1500 out of me. Obviously I told them to go fly a kite and walked out. It's probably for the best as the car was probably a lemon and had been on the lot 3 months already. I won't buy from any dealer with the Garcia name and I caution everyone to do the same.

Shady shady- please read full review

THINK AGAIN. If you're looking to buy a new car, please think again before you purchase from Garcia Honda. I was ecstatic to be getting a new car as a graduation present. Garcia Honda seemed like a great place to make this purchase. They were very welcoming and helpful...at first. It was a smooth ride (haha) purchasing a 2015 Ford Fiesta, until it all went downhill. I was so happy with my new car, until TWO DAYS after I purchased the car when it completely broke down in the middle of an overpass. I called the salesman who sold me the car in a panic and he came to pick me up and have someone tow the car. Okay, this is not what I planned, but John, the salesman, promised that everything would be fine. They would have the service team check everything out and lend me a service loaner car until I could get my car back. As John is scanning my drivers license so that I could get into the service loaner, HE LOSES MY DRIVERS LICENSE. He tells me that he can go with me to the DMV the next day and tells me that he will text me in the morning. No text. No call. I finally text him in the afternoon, as I need a drivers license and I'm having to take time off of work for this. No text back for hours. I tell him that I don't need him to come with me and that he can just reimburse me later. Let me tell you, it's not very easy to get a new drivers license, especially now with the Real ID act. For about three weeks I don't know what's going on with my car. Multiple times I was told that my car should be finished that day, and then not be contacted for days. At first they say that there was something wrong with the electrical system in the car. FINALLY, they contact me and tell me that the engine in the car may need to be replaced. UM WHAT? We would call Mike, the manager, to find out what's going on and he would say that he would call us back. Did he? No. My mom and I decide that we just need to go down to the dealership. Mike tells me he might be able to do something that will make me "really happy." This means selling me a car that is more expensive than the original car I purchased and acting like he's doing me a favor. I wasn't incredibly enthused about the car he's trying to sell me but he tells me that this is the only car they have in my price range and at this point, I just want a car. Overall, I am happy with my new car, but these people fail to acknowledge their major screw up. I couldn't even get a sincere apology until I asked for one. Almost a month after purchasing the second car, I'm still waiting on the reimbursement check they owe me. Just called mike, let's see if he calls back. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME, unless you would like an absurd and unnecessary amount of stress and anxiety added into your life. They talk a lot of smack about small dealerships, but the experience that I had with them...I would not wish on anyone. UPDATE: I was called shortly after posting this review by Mike and was threatened that if I didn't remove it, I would not receive my reimbursement check. Also, the original car I purchased is up for sale on their website and at a lower price.

Horrible experience

by Airbornesand on 02/19/2017

Went in to buy new 2017 hrv. Had a great time with the sales guys kickin tires and talking specs but when it came time to sit down and talk numbers things quickly went south. The finance person(might have been toby) our sales guy brought over started in immediately with a negative approach telling us the very bottom line and final price on what we would HAVE to pay for the vehicle(absolutely no markup, he was taking a loss blah blah blah). Like any red blooded Americans we countered his schpeal with "we need a better deal than that" and actually had done some shopping around at other local competitors with other tempting offers in hand. Before we could finish our counter the guy starts to bad mouth all these other dealers saying the most ubsurd things he can to put them down and worst of all he finishes his rant by calling my wife and I bold face liars!!..." nobody would offer a price that low, you must be making up figures" I told the guy how displeasing it is to hear his best "sales pitch" as nothing more than name calling and putting down other dealerships and also that we don't appreciate being called liars..this was the point when Mr. Finance pro threw his pen on the table with steam blowing out from his ears and blood red eyes telling us that we would need to take our business elsewhere...hah ok that was an embarrassing 15 minutes.. Needless to say we walked out in shock laughing at this childish [non-permissible content removed] and gave our 30 some thousand dollars to another dealer who didn't call us liars and sold the car on the merits of the vehicle and brand without having to put anyone or anything else down. :) (perfection).

Not willing to make a deal!

by Inthemrkt on 01/28/2017

Went in for a used vehicle and tried to negotiate a reasonable deal. I told the salesman I wanted to trade in a vehicle and finance the new /used. I asked about the price as every comparison website priced the vehicle over by $2000. He came back after talking to a "manager" and stated that there were only 4 similar vehicles in the whole southwest region of the United States and pricing was fair. Asked to speak to so called manager to try and negotiate a deal, salesman said it's late in the day and take it or leave it. Now a few weeks later the price has magically dropped by 1200$. The vehicle has been on the lot for 3 months! It could have been in my drive way but they are not willing to budge even in a reasonable way. Now they look desperate.

This dealership is a joke

by Coco223 on 12/31/2016

Came in and their sale rep, michael L. Was very good showing me the civic i was looking at. He was very helpful. When i told him i like the car and we went to the show room to talk numbers. This is where everything went down hill. Michael bring out his sale manager, brendon P. I made and offer then he ask me where i got the number from, i told him i feel its the right price for the car( about 1.5k off their listing price). He went back to his office then back out and give me the same price they listed for the car plus TT&L. I told him im not going to do that price. He told me the number i offer is a stupid offer. I told him that fine, we dont have a deal so i got up and left. As i got up, he told his sale rep michael that i wasted his time. Pretty dumb for a manager to insult a customer because by the end of the day, you will have no sale.

Great sales people. Beware of Owner.

by pilotownere on 11/18/2016

Had a great experience with Nate, who walked us through all the features on the Honda Pilot and was professional, knowledgeable, and friendly; everything you would expect from a sales person. A few days went by and I asked for a simple breakdown on the pricing. Toby Garcia got involved and refused to provide me the requested information. Toby insisted that my expectations on the price put the Elite trim "out of play" and that the Elite models are extremely rare. So rare, in fact, that Santa Fe Honda had one in stock and was able to provide fair pricing via email immediately. Toby doesn't comprehend or care about the modern customer. A simple request for pricing, readily provided via email from a competitor, was met with an attitude, as if I was wasting his time. If a company won't even give you the price of their product up front, how can you trust them with your business?

DO NOT GIVE THEM A DEPOSIT

by no_refund on 07/29/2015

They demanded a deposit to take the car to show my wife, but they refused to return the deposit and accused me, "You are not a man of your word!" because I refused to purchase from them. They never mentioned that the deposit was not refundable until after we returned from showing the car to my wife. Do not trust Garcia Honda! I went to Perfection and bought the exact same type of new car for $5500 less than Garcia quoted to me. Do not trust Garcia Honda!

Elderly beware of this dealer

by belennm on 05/19/2015

Go some where else to buy a Honda. They are very manipulative and you will wind up paying thousands more than you should. They kept us for hours until our resistance and reasoning was a problem then worked us into a deal that was about $3000 over what a fair deal would be. Then the finance people will cheat you out of any rebates or incentives.

Don't waste your time here, customer service is awful

by piper17 on 04/25/2014

In short, they care more about you getting financed through them than giving you a value. No negotiating on the price, only misdirection with "we will work with you", which means extending the length of the loan. We came in, with a check in hand, pre-approved through a bank of our choice at an excellent rate, and we wanted a lower out the door price; however, our sales man kept saying things to the effect of "well, put $1,000" or "we can give you payments of XXX with a long loan...". Not what we wanted, but they kept coming back to financing through them and wouldn't budge on the out-the-door price. I guess I must point out that they one time they lowered the price was after taking away part of the warranty.... We went to another dealership and they THREW IN the CPO inspection (which meant a better and longer warranty) for no additional cost. The model was a year newer and $2,000 less than what we were close to buying at Garcia Honda. I don't ever plan on going back or recommending anyone else to go there, there are far better dealerships than give you more car for your dollar.

dishonest, manipulative

by HSalbuquerque on 01/23/2014

I think it is reasonable to expect that a dealership will try to get the most they can out of a sale but at the same time I would also expect for them to be ethical and polite to their customers. I feel like I was lied to about whether the model I was looking for would be available (they told me it would not be in the foreseeable future even though it was) because I think they just wanted to make a sale immediately rather than wait. And Toby G also made the same kind of belittling comments to me about how I didn't know what I was doing (I was extremely well informed on cars and prices) that another reviewer on this site mentioned. The whole experience not only made me not want to not buy a car from Garcia Honda but also to never have any business dealings with them in the future. Terrible dealership. I ended up going with another dealership who tried to get me to spend a lot but I stuck to my price and we made it work without them being rude or dishonest to me. Stay away from Garcia Honda unless you like being treated poorly!

Garcia Honda: Home of the $289.50 "Dealer Transfer Service Fee"

by n2styx on 06/19/2013

Rule #1, DO YOUR HOMEWORK FIRST. By that, I mean know what the car's invoice price is and know what you can get it for elsewhere. As a member of Costco, I could take advantage of their autobuying program at a Honda dealership in Santa Fe, but I really didn't want to drive to Santa Fe. Knowing what I could buy my Civic for in Santa Fe, I went to Garcia to test drive the car and talk numbers. I was up front with them and told them what I could buy the car for in Santa Fe. Garcia offered to sell the car to me for $400 more than the Santa Fe price. I told them NO and told them what I'd pay for the car at Garcia. Garcia then offered $150 more than the Santa Fe Price. I accepted because the $150 was worth it for me not to have to drive to Santa Fe. Now here comes the sneaky part. After all the paper work was completed, we went home and I looked over the papers. I noticed they charged me $289.50 for a " Dealer Transfer Service Fee". Say what? This was never disclosed to me as such. Yes, I signed the paper that had this listed with all the other charges, but when you're at the point of being at the dealership for 4 hours, you just want you car and hurry and go home. Well played, Garcia, you got an extra $289.50 from me to add to your profit. Lesson learned READ YOUR PAPERWORK AND CHALLENGE ANY "BS" FEES.. This "FEE" is pure profit to take advantage of the customers.

Please learn from my mistakes

by wilhendrix on 06/14/2013

When I read reviews, I look for those where the people sound reasonable and don’t rant about a bad experience. I hope my experience with Garcia Motors assist you in your shopping for a car. I also hope you avoid the same frustrations I feel with my experience. With Garcia Motors, I did a couple of things right, but I also did several things wrong. My first mistake? I did not get it in writing before I traveled to their showroom. I was dealing with a woman named Monica O. She quoted me an “out the door” cost and I asked her to Email the details. When dealing with this much money, it’s best to get it in writing. But I never got the written details, just her telling me on the phone. I should have insisted on seeing it before I traveled to the showroom. Ask yourself, is it asking too much to get the details before going to the dealership so you have some time to really review their offer? You’re spending a lot of money and taking some time to fully understand their offer is just smart. Give yourself a day or so, if the car gets sold, Honda’s going to make lots more CRV’s or Accords or whatever. Please don’t hurry. I did not get the full offer in writing. S I didn’t know the exact sales tax, the dealer’s added costs, and everything else that goes into the bottom line. I should have insisted on reviewing it from the comfort of my own home, not sitting in their office. If you must review the deal at the dealership, take a hour, leave the dealership and go someplace where you can read it alone! My second mistake: I let my desire to get a new car, cloud my thinking - plus I’m older and was tired from a long drive and just wanted to get the darn thing bought. That was a big mistake. I was tired because my wire and I had driven several hours to get to the dealership. We arrived about 2:30 PM Thursday. I’d hoped to be done in an hour. If you’re in a hurry, that will work against you. Personally, I wonder if part of their sale process is to make you wait and build frustration? When I got there, the first thing they wanted me to do was to drive a CRV. But I’ve already have done that and know it’s what I want to buy.” But they insisted that I had to drive it. I did that and wasted 30 minutes. Then, we have several forms you need to fill out. But this was supposed to have been ready but we fill out the forms. Another 20 to 30 minutes has passed. Then we’re told, “it will be just a few more minutes.” So we wait another 30 minutes, maybe more and I ask “Can you find out what the hold up is?” “Sorry, just a few more minutes”. Another 30 minutes passes and I finally get mad. I find someone and ask when we’re going to actually see the contract? At this point, we’ve signed forms but have not yet seen the actual numbers of our deal. Now, the sales associate says, “Oh, sorry, the finance manager’s just finished and is ready to see you now” so we’re taken into his office. He’s seems happy but he’s not printed anything yet. “Why isn’t our contract ready for us?” I told Monica that we have a long drive ahead of us and wanted to get this done as fast as possible.” We’re asked to sign several more forms. Finally, he puts the contract in the printer. This takes a few more minutes. He screws up the first contract and so he prints up four more copies. Finally, we get to see the numbers. I say “This is not the price I was quoted”? Please remember, I originally dealt with a woman named Monica O. My wife and I’ve seen her just long enough for her to hand us over to another person and remember, I’d asked her to have the documents ready, we had a long drive ahead of us. Yet, oddly enough, nothing was ready. My third mistake? Not walking out. I had asked that the paperwork be ready, it wasn’t even started. On the positive side, I did catch some errors on their contract. Oddly enough, the errors were in their favor. I also saw that I’d opted for the 8 year bumper to bumper extended warrantee @ $1,600. “What’s this $1600 for?” The finance person said, it’s additional coverage. My comment, “It's a Honda. why would I buy additional warrantee coverage?” Oh, they are very complex and if you have a computer failure, it costs several thousand dollars to repair. Should have looked at my wife and said, “sorry honey, we’re done with these people, let’s go home.? So, on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being highest rating. I'd give Garcia motors a 3 plus. It could have been lower except for one of their sales people. A man named Howard B. He was the only positive experience we had with Garcia motors. I wish I could recommend that you buy from these people, but based on my one and only experience, I just can't say I’d recommend buying there. I don’t know; maybe next time I’ll try Costco or a buying service. If a friend asked me for three tips to buying, I’d have to say, get it in writing, take a day to review the numbers, and then be ready and willing to walk out if they try to change your deal.

Very Dishonest! Belittling!

by dbkirkp on 02/21/2013

I was helping my younger sister shop for a new car because my father is a tax accountant and in the middle of tax season where he is working at least 80 hours every week. We went into Garcia Honda to look at the 2013 accords. We found a car we wanted and negotiated a very reasonable price (We were told we were getting this price because we knew people in the service department). After my sister had a family discussion with my father she went in with him the next business day with 10k to put down on the car, which hadn't even hit the lot yet. There they were told that the price of the car had gone up by about $1,000! It was rediculous. After they said that they were not going to purchase it if they change the price at the last minute, the manager, Monica, kept playing the "wait em out game" with my fathers valuable time and wouldn't give them a new offer. They said they would fax another offer the next day which they never did. I then went online and went to Costco's Auto program. I entered my information and within 30 minutes was given a no haggle price that was LESS than the original price we had negotiated. Needless to say we bought from somewhere besides Garcia Honda. What really made me upset is since I gave my contact information to Garcia Honda "Toby" Garcia started to email me and after I told him what happened, he started to argue and belittle me through email. It was completely unacceptable. I can't suggest enough for you not to go to Garcia Honda.

Not interested in an offer

by dbjulio on 02/11/2013

I submitted a request for an price through Edmunds.com. Got and email from Toby G. without the usual "call us". Sent an response email to him with an offer of fair market value and he responded "you haven't spent much time looking at these cars there aren't very many around and your offer is below market." That's all he said. To me this means "look elswhere" because he doesn't want to sell one of the two of these rare Honda Accords that are sitting on his lot.

Worst Dealership I've Had

by Al_H7 on 01/17/2013

I walked into the dealership and was greeted nicely by a salesman. He gave me the tour of the 2013 accord coupe and we took it around for a spin. After the ride around, he asked me to sit down and he'll grab me a brochure. Instead of giving me a handout, he sent the manager my way. I asked the manager for a quote and he gave me the run around. I had previously talked to a couple dealerships around NM and told him the quotes they had provided me including the quote given to me by Santa Fe's Honda and their costco membership. The manager then began on a rant saying "i dont sell fruits and vegetables" and "why dont you go buy a vehicle from costco then." After that I got up and left. Disrespectful staff, avoid Garcia's and go to Santa Fe's Honda or Perfection Honda.

efficient and persistent

by artlover on 12/20/2012

My car shopping experience with Garcia Honda pre-owned was great. I decided to go with Garcia Automotive because I had previously purchased two reliable vehicles from them and chose a Honda because they just have the best reviews. The staff was very helpful and looked out for the perfect car for me. They knew what I wanted and kept their eye out for me. I didn't find the sales people pushy like the typical car sales person, just politely persistent. They found the perfect pre-owned, certified Honda CR-V for me, which had only one owner, well taken care of with only 22,000 miles and a 100,000 mile certified warranty! I am very happy with the service of the Garcia Honda staff and feel I got a great car and a good deal. My third car from the Garcia family and most likely not my last.

This is how a dealership should treat you.

by osoridge63 on 10/13/2012

Honda Garcia was the friendliest car dealership I have ever been to.Before going to dealership I worked out many of the details with Toby Garcia by phone and E-mail his quick and honest responses to me let me know that I had found the right dealership. Arriving at the dealership we were greeted by Louis who contacted Toby to let him know we were there.Louis then showed us everything we wanted to see and took us on test drives while explaining in detail all the features and benefits of each CRV .Once we decided on the model we liked Louis and Toby did everything they could to give us the best trade in and pricing on our new CRV . I would highly recommend Garcia Honda to anyone who is tired of being treated like just another customer and wants to be treated like family instead. Thanks Toby and Louis for all your help.

Love my new CRV and enjoyed the buying process.

by SusanC on 09/30/2012

I had a very pleasant experience purchasing my CRV this month. Tony, the sales rep, was knowledgeable about the vehicle and very nice to deal with. It was my second car that I've bought at Garcia Honda and I will definitely return again. Even the signing process was great - the finance guy had a great sense of humor and made it a fun ending to the whole buying process.
