Avoid this Penske scam shop at all costs

by EJ on 08/25/2019

Don't buy from Hudson Toyota! They cheat on you left and right and you will be doomed. We bought a used certified Toyota from them last year with the aim to get an accident free car. It turns out to be a car with prior severe accident that Hudson Toyota didn't disclose. Hard to believe their technicians couldn't tell the car had a prior accident as it only took minutes for a small body shop technician to identify the damage from the accident. Hudson Toyota played seek-and-hide tricks with us for months, having zero professionalism and quality customer service in mind. They are cheap too - the gain for such a scam is less than $15K! Very disappointed with the shameful Hudson Toyota (Penske) in Jersey City!

Bait and switch - Stay away from this dealer

by pfo1 on 01/10/2014

I have bought 15 cars in my lifetime but I have never entered a dealership as unethical as this one. After I had a signed contract from them that I negotiated during the Toyotathon, they called me and told a week later and told me that they could not get the truck I wanted but I could have a different one for $800 more. When I went to speak to the sales manager he had me sit there for an hour before he told me that I couldn't have it for the $800 more but now wanted $1500. This was beyond belief. He knew now that the sale was over and I could not go back to the other dealers I had visited to get a similar price I had very few options. Either I pay the $1500 more or get my deposit back. So I took my money back and ran. I am currently writing to the NJ Attorney Generals office to report this activity. Never mind that East Coast Toyota lost a customer but so has Toyota.

Worst ever

by Bssss on 09/13/2013

Just bought a cpo car here the other day. Salesman, Tayo, is very rude and unhelpful. Lacked basic toyota knowledge and didn't care to please a customer. I was immediately greeted by him with an attitude and disinterest. He was unwilling to resolve simple issues with the 4 month old car. He wouldn't provide car mats or missing interior pieces. General manager is also the same. Easy to see why the workers have the same attitude. Not willing to budge on prices. Very unreasonable. The dealership is very packed with more the 10 salesmen waiting at the lot to run desperately to potential buyers cars. Very awkward experience all together. Not pleasant to say the least. I would neverrrrrr recommend this dealer to a buyer unless you want a headache. Extremely poor customer service.

Odd sales practices

by testudo on 05/13/2010

I drove into the dealership early on a Saturday two weeks ago and all the salesmen were standing outside waiting for suckers. They waved me into a parking spot and "Sammy" greeted me. He immediately sat me down at a table and whipped out the 4-square work sheet and asked if it was my first time there and if I "was going to do something today". I said I had been looking for a while, would be ready to buy in the next couple of weeks, and it was my second time there but I didn't talk to anyone nor did I go on any test drives the first time. I was interested in a Highlander Hybrid and wanted to test drive any hybrid since I had never driven one before. 1st excuse: the hybrids are blocked in and it would be very difficult to get it out. 2nd excuse: you came at a very busy time and we don't have time to let you test drive if you won't buy today. 3rd excuse: he leaves to check "the system" and says he doesn't have any Highlander Hybrids in stock but would be getting some in a couple of days. Well, the dealership was sparse in the morning with a half dozen salesman waiting around. It was literally 10X busier the last time I was there. I looked into their inventory online and they had 13 Highlander Hybrids in stock. I told him that if he didn't want to deal with me, he could say that and he didn't have to lie because I checked his "system" too. Ultimately, he rushed me out of the dealership after 5 minutes. Sammy basically didn't want to spend anytime with me on a Saturday and wanted me to take off work to come in during the week. Since I made the mistake of being honest, he knew that I was unlikely to close a deal that day so he wanted to move onto the next customer. I've been to several dealerships and they are all willing to lie (ex:"this is the invoice price" while pointing at the msrp) so don't be afraid to lie as a buyer! Now if I go to a dealership, I tell them I'm ready to buy today and they will be on their best behavior every single time. I am fundamentally against wasting people's valuable time, but Sammy was ridiculous from minute number 1. LESSON: Buyers have to look out for themselves and be willing to do as much as the salesman is willing to do. Don't give them any more respect than they give you and they don't give you any 9/10 times. CONCLUSION: This is business, not personal so I'll go back to Hudson in a heartbeat if they have the lesser price. Will always do the shopping around online first. But if I'm lucky enough to get Sammy again, I'll string him along for an hour test driving and making a decision on model and options and then request a different salesman at Hudson to close.

Very bad Saled Practice

by jackmc1 on 04/08/2010

I was there on 04/06/2010; Jose came up to assist me at the receptionist desk. After i told him i am just shopping around and not buying the car right away. I will make the decision in a Month. He tells me you are not going to buy the car from me and go somewhere else. He didn't even show me the car I was looking for. He said I will have to wait and see if he can find someone. After waiting for 20 minutes i left. Meanwhile, He is talking and laughing with one of his Coworker (Mo Manzoor) in his office. I would recommend everyone to go someplace else but Hudson Toyota.

The worst lies I ever seen

by greg119 on 08/27/2009

I went to them after a phone call, by costco auto buying program. During call they gave me a price. When I came, the price changed 1200 $ up! Do not believe their statements over the internet or otherwise. They distribute BS and lie without any hesitation. Terrible experience! Avoid them!

The worst dealership at all

by maennj on 01/25/2009

I never seen such a sick salesperson, have you ever seen a salesperson gets mad and yell at you "I WASTED TOO MUCH TIME ON YOU". Well I got someone like that. Have you ever got your deal canceled by the dealer and gotten rid of by the dealer in the last minute? Well I got that. Long story short, the salesperson is really pushy and [violative content deleted]. I was trying to negotiate with him politely and I've shown him offers from other dealers to convince him that his price is too high. He wasted my time too much by going to his manager and coming back to me. Finally after 5 hours, we finally reached an agreement. Then when we started to do the contract, I picked the car even though I had to pick a car with more options because their inventory is short (more on inventory later). Then I asked the salesperson how many miles you're giving me on this lease, he said 12k. I said oh I thought it was 15k. At that point he went beyond the limits and threw keys at the table and walked away yelling at me "I WASTED TOO MUCH TIME ON YOU", the he took all the papers and left. I was really shocked and everyone in the room was looking at me. I went to manager to complete this deal because it was good. However, I started complaining there about the salesperson. Instead of making me happy, the manager felt that I'm unhappy and I would give him low rating in the survey. He said I'd rather not sell the car instead of getting low rating. I hoped he just yell to the salesperson or making him apologize. Instead, he came up with stupidest excuse to get rid of me. He said the car should be insured by the primary applicant and can't be insured by the co-buyer (even though I did that with a Honda). He just started to give me excuses for every solution I come up with. If you want to know more, then you should know that they said they will agree on offer I give them if the co-applicant have score of 700+. I said ok and gave co-applicant SSN. After they ran a credit check, even though the co-applicant had excellent score with more than 700, they gave me totally different numbers for the car I wanted and then said they'll give me the cheaper trim for the price I offered. I had to go with the cheaper trim after they ran credit check. Inventory was really bad, he told me they have the car with the color I wanted. But after we nearly closed the deal, we found they have only one color available and the color I wanted is available with more options, so I had to pay more to get the color I wanted.

salesman lies to sell cars

by santhan12 on 08/27/2008

we went to see this dealer on 8/22/08 we met a salesman called Qulzam Zaman he started with the pitch every car in his lot comes with remort start($599) and vandal proof coat($699)which will cost us on top of the msrp $1200 .At this point his price for a 2008 Toyota camry LE was$22,700 plus $1200 which was $23900 so we gave him a offer of $17900 final.his explanation was toyoto comes with remort start and clear coat therefore his best price $19900 foe 2008 camery LE we walked out and we bought a car for $18400 toyoto 2009 camry LE on the Route 22 . there are about 4 dealers in Route 22 . so my advice to other buyers Dont wast your time on Hudson toyoto they are going to con you to sell the car.BE careful make surr you know your number.

Hudson toyota

by sarge220 on 04/10/2008

OMG its unreal how pushy and uncooperative these people are! I was practically ignored as to any questions I had , the only thing they were interested in was how fast they could get my signature on a contract.( which did not and will not EVER happen). I happily purchased a pre-owned certified BMW, and couldnt be happier. Hudson toyota hires some of the [violative content deleted] car sales man I have ever had the dis-pleasure of meeting, and will be sure to tell anyone who is interested in a toyota to look elsewhere. My rating is this dealership is ROCK BOTTOM!

WAY TOOOOOOO PUSHY

by unhappymom on 02/23/2008

I contacted them via the internet from their website regarding a late model Toyota Sienna (99-2001) as the price was not listed. I live in Central PA, so I was not driving 5 hours to see the vehicle unless I was definite on purchasing it. When they weren't able to reach me by phone, they sent me several e-mails in regards to contact them. As a courtesy to ask them to stop e-mailing me, I spoke with one of their Internet Sales people. The guy proceeded to go through his long winded sales pitch & kept asking when I'd like to come in. I couldn't even get a word in to ask what the price was. When he final stopped talking, I kindly asked what the price was. He told me $11995. When I told him that the price was too much for me & that we were on a $6000 budget & couldn't make any monthly payments, he basically ignored me & proceeded to tell me again about their "special internet deals" that were going on & that he could reduce the vehicle to $10500. I told him again, more sternly this time, that our budget is $6000 & that is pushing it. He told me that for $6000, I could get an older Corolla or something else, but not a minivan or SUV or anything that would last me a while. I finally told him thank you but their pricing is not for me & to stop e-mailing me. Hung up I thought I was done & finished with this dealership.......................until about 15-20 minutes later, the Sales Manager called me to follow up from his sales guy. He, too, was pushy in getting me to come in to see the vehicle. This time, I was upset because (#1) I wasn't interested in the Sienna or the dealership anymore & #2 I get another Sales Guy to coax me in to their dungeon . I told him the exact same thing as I told the 1st guy. He basically ignored me as well & kept talking & wouldn't shut up. Then he told me that with my budget, I couldn't find a decent vehicle that wouldn't last me more than 6 months until I had to start putting in a ton of money into the vehicle to maintain it. This really PISSED me off to the point I stated yelling at him. I told him that I have a 94 Honda Civic right now that I paid $1000 for it, sight unseen until I picked up the car. I've had the car for about 4 or 5 years & it just turned over to 274k & the only thing I've replaced on it besides the oil, filter & belts is the radiator. (Besides a few body dings, minimal rust & dirty interior from my 2 babies, this car has been excellent transportation for me. My husband has put more money into his late model BMW 3 Series (with 35k less miles) than we've put into my Civic.) He proceeded to tell me about their 0% financing on new vehicles, etc. I finally told him that I was NO LONGER interested in what he had to offer & not to contact me via phone or e-mail ever again. I think he could tell I was really pissed off & I hung up on him. If they contact me again via e-mail or phone, I will report it as abuse & harassment! DO NOT CONTACT THEM UNLESS YOU LIKE PUSHY TALKERS!!!!

Pressure selling

by mybmw1 on 01/10/2008

Went there to get Corolla back in 2006, the sales force uses lot of pressure tactics to make sale, got me into buying extended warranty by showing me incentive of lowering the finance rate....

Low prices aren't everything

by josephcowherd on 01/03/2008

I got a good price and the exact car I was after. I got a horrible trade-in offer ($100 for a $3000 value). I had a 20 day temporary registration, and from what I could tell, they attempted to get my permanent registration on day 19. They totally botched it up, and lied to me several times. Following that, they ignored phone messages requesting other matters. I would never recommend these guys. Now I get junk solicitous machine-generated phone calls from the service center looking for more business. What a mistake.
